The day Roy Williams gets pulled over for speeding in Chapel Hill and they arrest him is the day pigs fly over the plains of a frozen hell.

That doesn't sound that bad. Maybe Harris wanted to know why he was being pulled over and the cop wouldn't tell him so they started arguing.

Harris should have yes sir'd and no sir'd the cop until he was released. Yea, you've got to swallow your pride, but as long as the cop doesn't physically harm you, it'd be best to deal with it in this way. Then, after is all said and done on the scene, get a lawyer, and explain everything to him as well as the big boys in the Wolfpack club to get their hands invloved as well as the AD. If Harris truly did nothing wrong other than speeding, he'd have nothing to worry about and I'd let the lawyer's pick this cop apart, because I doubt the cop knew he was the NCSU assisstant coach capable of getting the right defense. However, trying to solve the situation at the scene rarely works out for the accused, agreed?

^^Somebody on packpride claims that the officer was trying to get him to put his hands on the hood and spread em and Harris objected to it.

I would too if I were pulled for a speeding violation and the cop had no reason to search me.

^^ I understand it's not, but how many times have you heard the accused work the situation for themselves at the scene, best to get some cutthroat lawyers familiar with unafair police tactics and unleash them and let them do thier job, Harris is in a pefect postion to execute this strategy with his contacts.

I love how everyone is condemning the cop already without having the first fucking clue what happened. I like Harris but just like everyone else he isn't perfect. He very well could have been belligerent and threatening. I don't have any clue just like some random assclown on packpride doesn't either.

I'm going to wait until I hear more about what really happened before trying to pass any judgment on either party.

Here's my opinion.

The guy is a great assistant coach, an outstanding recruiter, and all the former players like and respect him.

I don't give a fuck what he did last night. He didn't commit a violent crime or even do anything dangerous. He doesn't have a prior history. If he took an attitude with a cop that he thought was out of line then I'm okay with that.

He gets a free pass for sure in my book.

I can't believe a Carolina fan would even comment on this MINOR infraction that may or may not be legit after all the 2nd chances Phil Ford has had.

What a stupid cop. Either..

A) he was a Carolina fan and did it in spite

B) he knew nothing about sports and just racially profiled him

b/c the cop probably was a dick like they some are and demanded shit without reason. So Larry probably asked a couple questions and delayed giving him the ID by 5 seconds and they develop this bs of a story for the press.

I call utter bullshit of this whole story

The comments on ESPN's article are fucking ridiculous, some stupid toolbags saying that the program is headed in the wrong direction because a coach's ADULT son gets in trouble, and an assistant coach gets what probably amounts to little more than a speeding ticket.....

people say that easily w/o knowing a fucking thing. Programs are only going in the wrong directions when the players get into trouble and arent graduating, things like that. Coaches reflect on the program but they are not a bigger focus than the kids.

Harris is lawyered up and has filed multiple charges against the arresting officer. Also there are rumors that the cop has some negative race relation issues noted in his file.

"Arrested Assistant Coach Files Complaint Against Raleigh PD
Larry Harris

Posted: Today at 4:34 a.m.
Updated: 17 minutes ago

Raleigh — An attorney for one of North Carolina State University's men's basketball coaches filed a complaint Thursday against the Raleigh Police Department.

The complaint accuses officer R. W. King of assault, excessive force, conduct unbecoming of an officer and poor judgment in connection with the arrest of Saint Lawrence "Larry" Harris.

Harris, 51, was arrested shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday after he was pulled over for traveling 41 mph in a 25 mph zone in the 800 block of West Morgan Street.

According to police, Harris declined to comply with several requests and instructions from the officer, and the officer eventually arrested Harris on a charge of resisting/obstructing a public officer. Raleigh police said the officer used pepper spray when Harris would not comply.

Harris' attorney, Lee Turner Jr. would not talk specifically about Harris's account of the arrest but said it does not come close to what police said occurred.

"He wants to see justice done, and he wants to see this not happen to any other citizen of the city again, like it happened to him," Turner said.

WRAL was told that Harris was out of town on a recruiting trip Thursday and was unavailable for comment. N.C. State had no comment on the arrest.

Harris, who was also issued a citation for the speeding violation, was released from jail at 11 p.m. after posting $1,500 bail.

Harris has spent the past 10 years as an assistant coach on the N.C. State staff, including serving as associate head coach last season, according to the university's Web site.

Black guy. Drives an Escalade and a NICE one at that. Was speeding. Looks too good to be true. I recognize him when I see him around driving it, I wonder if a cop does? and if he doesnt what his intentions are. I hate the RPD and the WPD. end of story. cops take their job and do well with it but some just take it too far.

I assume RPD records all of their stops on camera (with microphone) so it shouldn't be too hard to verify his story. Larry Harris is a large black man and I could see a cop with poor judgement or racist leanings going too far. Kudos to Coach Harris, assuming his account is correct, for standing up to this crap.

how sweet it would be after what happened to sid lowe's son, and the initial panic of this if it turns out this cop just gets owned.

although on the same hand, how embarrassing it would be if video came out that larry harris was completely guilty

we'll see, fingers crossed for harris.

And it has noting to do with going 41 mph in a 25 mph zone in down town Raleigh. Lets wait till all the facts come out before making judgments on him or the officer. Either way this is a lose-lose situation for the Wolfpack Nation and the City of Raleigh.

On a lighter note why didn’t wral post the google map link of the area like the did the dumpster fire on states campus!

from what I know, RPD's cameras cut on when the lights go on... not 100% sure though

as for Harris, he gets a free pass from me this time also, it's not that big of a deal

as for the cop, if it's proven that he was racially profiling and violating his rights(did it to the wrong black man this time)... I hope he is fired and goes to jail

there is no excuse for that in 2007

Everytime we pull a car over we have this form we fill out. We have to indicate why we stopped the car. who was driving the car as in white, black, male female, hispanic or not. WE then indicate what action we took like a verbal warning, writtin warning, citation, arrest what not. Then we check a bunch of boxes if we searched the person and or passengers. if we did search we flip the form over and theres a whole other side of things we have to go through dealing with the search. ITs not hard to find out if someone is profiling, you just run the numbers.

somebody explain to me what proof could possible be out there that wouls "prove" in a court of law that this guy was racially profiling, short of him calling LH "son" or "boy" on the video there just isn't much. He pulled him for going 16 miles over the speedlimit, which is adequate for a stop, hell that number could technically get your license taken away for 6months to a year. You all are talking about this like he was pulled for doing 55 in a 54.

I agree with everyone her that the cop could very well have been in the wrong after the stop was made. That will come out in time, but as far as "racial profiling" which is the act of pulling somebody with race being the predominant factor, that is completely subjective, and you will never really be able to tell, especially since there was a completely viable reason for the stop.

I hope just like the rest of you, that the cop was an overbearing asshole, threatened LH, and arrested him for no good reason.....but "racial profiling" will not be the charge in this case
