thanks for all the feedback! i know exactly 1 person who lives there so i plan to give her a call & ask what her take is on it. also i'd obviously like to check it out in person before making a final decision. also need a job offer first... but the prospect is looking incredibly good
i will post any question that come up here!
to start off, is there an ncsu alumni group? is it active?
how far are some of the beaches? which beaches are easiest to get to?
what is the income tax & sales tax? i realize i could look this up & i will but if anyone knows off hand, i'd appreciate it! 6/22/2012 11:48:41 PM |

There is an alumni group here. I am not active in it though so I don't know how active they are. I have shown up at places to watch a couple games over the years. I did actually just help coordinate a big NC State alumni social in Greenville where Chancellor Woodson came and I got to meet him beforehand and stuff which was pretty cool
Normally, I have just watched games with friends as I have a small group of other NC State grads I hang out with some here though.
As far as beaches go:3.5 to Charleston. A little over 4 to Myrtle. 5 to Wilmington. 4.5 to Murrels Inlet. But, you are also 1hr 15mins from Asheville, 2.5 from Boone, and anywhere from 1.5-3 from lots of places in the NC mountains in general if you like the mountains.
I think the income and sales taxes are 7% and 6% respectively but I don't really pay attention. The general cost of living is low though, especially compared to what the big companies tend to pay in salary here. 6/25/2012 9:26:21 AM |

Yeah I feel like most folks on that side on SC go lake swimming rather than drive to the beach. My grandmother bought a lake house on the SC border for that purpose. 7/7/2012 1:22:17 PM |

No update yet. The job hasn't posted yet & I have a semi medical reason to stay in Houston so I'm hoping maybe I can get thence to switch the geography of the job back to Houston (where the job was originally based when I expressed interest). Otherwise, playing it by ear... 7/7/2012 4:12:51 PM |

haha
Also, Pixigirl13, I saw your post on city-data today and had no idea you were a TWW user
It definitely has a conservative lean but it is not uber conservative like some places nearby in SC. My wife and I are fairly liberal, non-"southern" people and we have enjoyed the area fine. As far as being single goes, it really depends on what your scene is I guess. I have a lot of single girl and guy friends I hang out with down here and still go out with. Hard to provide much more info without knowing exactly what you are looking for. 10/9/2012 5:55:14 PM |

I kind of assumed that based on your last post. Sounds like it was the best decision for you though 10/15/2012 12:59:18 PM |
