I just got back from a Media Screening of this.

I give it a 3.5/5

It was good. If you liked the Original (I don't) then you'll like this. I liked it better than the original just because it was a little faster paced. (I don't get where IGN says it's 50 minutes of back story, that's BS)

I thought this movie was awesome. Rob Zombie did a great job modernizing the story. I do like the fact that the soundtrack was very retro though.

The whole "no matter how fast you run the killer can walk behind you and keep up" thing is very believable in this movie given the fact that that sabretooth (that's what I'm gonna call him) is a GIANT. All caps there to emphasize his size.

It's obvious Rob Zombie is the planet's biggest horror fan. I think he made a horror movie for horror movie fans. Plenty of cursing, gore, and bewbs. Unlike IGN, I actually like the backstory. It delves into his mind and shows you why he does things or snapped the way he did just a little more than the original did. This one might not be as thrilling as Carpenter's (one of the best horror films ever)... but in my opinion you can't really create the tension and chills the way Carpenter did decades ago. Not for this generation/audience. One scene in particular (little Mikey "snaps" in the insane asylum) I thought was incredibly chilling and eerie. Very well done. I'll be checking this out again soon.

If you are a fan of Zombie's films you'll like this. You won't get to see any of his crazy sense of humor that shows up in his fucked up horror films. You know, the things that come out of left field...

**************SPOILER WARNING**********************

I especially loved the fact that Zombie ended it the way he did. So the audience would say, "damn... Meyers is dead!?" Just as originally you weren't sure what to think. Now that we know that Meyers didn't die after the first film he could have taken the obvious route and did something that made it obvious he isn't or there will be a sequel, but it's totally up in the air. There could NOT be a sequel..he could be dead... and that's fine. Or there could be a sequel and no one will really care because we expect that from Mike Meyers. Just hope it ends after 3. Anything more than that and the story gets stupid again.

**********END SPOILER ALERT*************

interested to find out what you guys think this weekend.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****

I actually loved the backstory just because you got the sense to feel bad for the kid, and how his situation can play out anywhere and actually does happen IRL. But did he really have to kill that janitor? Come on man, do the head tilt thing from Halloween 5 and let em go. All in all I really did enjoy counting the zombie cast from his other movies in various roles, I counted at least 5. Another great flick from Zombie, that is if you enjoy his kind of style.

**** END SPOILER ALERT ****

He absolutely had to kill the janitor. If the janitor would have just ran away in the opposite direction maybe not, but instead the janitor decided to risk his life and try to stop Mike Meyers from escaping. I felt bad for the guy... you're supposed to, but I was so glad that Zombie had him kill him.

THIS MOVIE IS SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT.

And I liked the devil's rejects. God. I fucking hated this movie. It was trite, dumb, and ridiculous. I don't give a shit for the reasons why mike meyers is the way he is - all grunge'd out and emo. Why do modern movies have this need to explain crazy - why can't crazy just be crazy anymore. Plus there's no time for horror suspense and imagination...his punk ass is everywhere at all times - you hardly get a chance to feel suspense. This movie was a fucking turd stain. If you liked the original. DONT SEE IT.

http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=reviews&id=11637 - this review sums it up 100%

The original is my all time favorite slasher/horror film... and I like this new movie... a lot.

And it's going to be number one this weekend. Rare enough for a horror movie, especially one rated R, and a first for Rob Zombie

Honestly, I don't think it was as bad as the reviews make it out to be. With that said, it has some major flaws. I thought the kid who played young Mike Myers was AWFUL-- like one of the worst movie performances I've seen in quite some time. I don't care that he was just a kid... there are plenty of great kid actors. Also, the Laurie character was wack. She was way better in the original. A final complaint is that the violence is way too rushed and unrelenting. The original was so great because their were long spans of time when the violence let up, which made it all the more surprising and exciting when Myers attacked. In this one, it feels as if there are 5 Mike Myers. He pops up anywhere and everywhere at the snap of a finger. He's in one house... then the next house... then another house... then a swimming pool... then a cemetary, etc. etc. Did he have rollerskates on?

A+ for young Jenny from Forrest Gump getting naked though

I can't believe anyone can complain about this film considering the last halloween films (H2O and Resurrection) sucked complete ass and had to get by with cheap laughs from busta rhymes and LL cool j....this is about a million times better

but considering this is tww I'm not too surprised to hear people talk about how much it sucked...when some of them haven't even seen it

let's think about who the real moron is...
someone who went and watched a movie and enjoyed it, because they knew they would and it was marketed for people like him... or the idiot that paid to watch it and hated it. It was exactly what i expected based on the previews... so how did you expect anything else.
I guess some idiots will watch anything out there. Afterall Kangaroo Jack was the number 1 movie the weekend it opened.

*spoilers*

dude the movie sucked. i enjoyed devil's rejects and house of 1000 corpses. just for the pure brutal pictures that they were. but no way can you take on michael myers as the main character and show his past like this.... it's just absurd. i don't want to know about his crippled stepfather and fucked up family life. i don't want to know shit about him. any ounce of decency (the scene where he shows his sister that picture) made him seem so harmless. there were certain times i thought zombie nailed it but only a combined 10 minutes of the film.

This movie was very well done, not just another random hack and slash. I liked the original and think it paid homage to it and the backstory added a great feel to the movie. I liked the retro music too, although I couldn't figure what time setting the movie itself was in (current or 80's, I thought I saw a cell phone once).

Still don't understand why the sister ran back into the house when he was attacking the old guy though.

And this is where you are completely wrong. It is a remake of one of the best horror movies of all time. It BETTER live up to better standards than a standard horror movie.

I haven't seen it yet, may wait until $1.50 theatres.

it sucks ass, don't go. Bad dialogue, bad acting, terrible suspense, shitty direction. Really devoid of anything redeeming. I would have walked out of the movie at the halfway point but i was with a big group and i hadnt had dinner and i was copping people's popcorn while making fun of this steaming turd. Out of the 8 of my friends that went, 0/8 liked it.

Turd hopper.

not that i am going to bash on your opinion of this movie but i think you are way off on some parts

i really enjoyed this movie, a lot! i think the videography was exceptional and the whole film was very well made. i love how he made the early childhood of michael "retro".

let's talk more about Jenny from Forest Gump?

She got killed while fucking?

was it the classic Jason stab through the dude and girl missionary style, or did Zombie take it to another level?

Ok just saw this.

I liked it. Really captured the demented nature of a serial killer.

It had some actors from Rob's previous movies.

Sid Haig as the Undertaker
Sheri Moon (Zombie's wife) as Michael's mother
Danny Trejo
Bill Moseley

It also had some classic horror appearances with

Clint Howard
and Brad Dourif who was the sherriff his best known work is the voice of Chucky in the Child's Play series and more recently as Grima Wormtongue in the LOTR movies.

Dee Wallace

Overall the body count was impressive, the suspense was lacking but the story was definitely well told.
