Ding, ding, ding. You are correct.

Georgia Southern has 6 national championships compared to ASUs 2. They are the most succesful college program in I-AA by a landslide. So don't sit here and act like ASU is better. Sure, they have one a few games the past few years against GSU, but thats only because they hired 2 complete fucks after Paul Johnson left. Its not like I am here trolling, I am only stating the facts.

Shouldn't the powerhouse GA Southern be able to hire any coach they want?

they did hire the coaches they wanted...the first year after PJ left GSU, his old assistant took over. in four years he went something like 37-14 but was fired after not producing national championships. in 2005, a new coach came in and tried to establish a west coast offense (instead of the triple option that had been so successful with johnson and his successor) - he left this year to go be the linebackers coach for the Falcons. The successor was another higly successful coach (career record of 76-12).

go roll your shit at that

haha, fucking awesome. Couldn't have said it better myself. And yes, the new coach they have is a total badass at the lower level. And no, no I-AA really gets the best out there, or who they really want. And on a side note, Paul Johnson is a fucking badass coach, and we are going to be sorry we didn't hire him. The guy has nothing but success written on his resume. I remember when he beat one Jim Tressell in the NC a few years back. You might know the guy, he now coaches OSU, and PJ beat him. But that doesnt seem to mean much on here, because we got the coach from BOSTON FUCKING COLLEGE!!!!

we got a coach that had BOSTON FUCKING COLLEGE ranked regularly, rather than the guy who passes 4 times per game. oh yeah, and a ton of his staff came with him.

yeah, i'll take that.

Um, tressel did win multiple titles in D1-AA. So because PJ beat him he's a better coach, I guess Tressel would have had to have won 7 straight titles to be better than PJ? Sorry, coaches lose games, no one wins them all, so yoru little analogy of PJ "beating tressell" doesn't make him a better coach. Let's ee, Les Robinson was 5-7 against Dean, a much better % than coach K, therefore Les is better than K (and I even evaluated 12 games, not 1)?????

PJ is a good coach but I'd hold off putting him up there with the Stoops, Carrols, Meyers, Spurriers, and yes Tressels

PJ owned Tressel in I-AA. Just because JT had the better oppourtunity doesnt mean he is the better coach. JT took a national power and won a championship. WOW, good job. PJ took the shit of the NCAA that was NAVY and made them great. There is a huge difference there. And yes, PJ is a better coach than the garbage we got from BC. Why you cant see this, I do not know.

i'm actually sitting here pointing out the flaws in your logic, and arguing that red tom is a good coach. nothing against paul johnson (except that his game revolves around never passing). although now i'm excited for the world of hurt that i'm in for.

and i never wanted to hire johnson, no sour grapes here.

really though, who won navy's bowl game, i missed it? was it an important bowl? the way you're talking about it, it must've been a bcs bowl, right? at least one with some tradition and not just a corporate sponsorship. i mean, this bowl was important, right? enough to call navy great, apparently.

To be fair, Boston College barely squeaked by a Navy team with less talent.

No, you are sitting here pissed off that we had to settle for "red tom" and not a better coach.

Please do tell why he would have been a bad hire....

fisher? johnson?

no thanks.

the guy passes 6 times per game. i promise you that wouldn't work any more here than it did at navy... and we already fired a coach that can get to the car care bowl.

haha, jesus christ you are retarded...Navy got to the car care bowl (taking the BE #3 - this year it was Rutgers) as a team who can't recruit and is undersized beyond belief. But Navy beats bigger teams with the offense. I'm guessing you didn't watch the BC-Navy game, because if you did you would have seen an offense that completely perplexed an ACC defense and a slower, smaller defense that held one of the better ACC offenses last year in check.

What if Ohio State had said...yeah, Tressel is OK, but he's only winning 1-AA, and we're 1-A?

And passing 6 times a game (actually it's more like 10) has worked out just fine for Navy...35-15 in the past 4 years, 2-2 in bowl games, average QB rating over those 4 years is 128.9, average rushing rank in the nation 1st and it's a fucking military academy.

But then again, why oh why are we going through all this again. TOB is a good coach - he's an Academy grad, has discipline, and will win games. But so would PJ - I'm just glad to see him stay at Navy and TOB come in to lay some law down on State's kids.

I love how someone is saying we are gonna be sorry that we didn't hire Paul Johnson.

Tom O'Brien hasn't even coached one goddamn game yet.

Make your evaluations in 2009.

PJ is a fantastic coach. But so is Major Tom. Give him a chance.

Anyone bashing PJ is a complete moron.

Or bashing his offense at freakin Navy for not passing the ball. (When he was OC at Hawaii, all he did was pass).

The man is an excellent coach and in some sense, I wish we'd hired him. I'm fully satisfied with TOB though... but PJ would have been a great hire.
