the railhawks did beat chivas earlier as well too...not sure what the circumstances were around that game, however

Yes, though I'm not sure why we're playing here instead of there, the lower team usually gets the home field. Maybe it's because the UoR stadium is such a shithole.

heard the cruz game was competitive...robbed on no call in the box and another goal called back...not bad against a squad that just drilled boca juniors

In USOC, each team makes a bid to host the game and I guess whoever promises the most money either by percentage of ticket revenue or a flat fee gets to host. That's why most lower seeded teams host MLS -- the cost of opening up/running MLS or NFL stadiums for a game where they'd draw maybe 2,000 fans is too much, so they just travel to somewhere like SAS who can draw very well.
