the 99 overall players and my opinion

Champ Bailey...................... deserved, best corner in the game

Steve Smith .................. not deserved, should be a 95 or 96, but I play as the Panthers so its good for us I guess

Peyton Manning
LaDainian Tomlinson............... deserved, probably the two most obvious in the league

Walter Jones
Steve Hutchinson .................. Offensive lineman so hard for me to judge, but kinda shows how lucky Shaun Alexander was to run behind both of them

Troy Polamalu
Ed Reed
Brian Urlacher ..................... Urlacher and Reed alright, but I don't think Palamalu is quite in that class

bah

it's deserved for polamalu. he's one-of-a-kind and i guarantee you he causes problems for opposing offenses. it's been said that the only way the quarterback can ever really predict what troy's going to do is by looking at the rest of the guys out there and figuring out what they're not doing. and then it's a toss-up.

i think you'd be hard-pressed to find a safety that causes as many problems for offenses as polamalu does. hell, any defensive back really. champ bailey is definitely the best shutdown corner in the game, but he will typically stick to doing that. the offense knows that they're tempting fate anytime they throw to his side of the field, and run their plays with that in mind. polamalu's specialty is unpredictability, and there's no easy way to plan around that for the offense.

so i say he deserves the 99, and agree with you on the rest of them

"Radio is adding songs based on a band's inclusion in the game. Video channels are creating their playlists based on the soundtrack. Simply put, Madden moves music forward. ehh....

Anyway, I'm curious to see how Madden 08 and 2K08 are going to compare to eachother. Nice that there is some competition. I'm still pissed that Madden has the exclusive rights. Total bullshit and it basically screws the consumer.

Ha. My annual goal has always been "Find the sound options to turn the menu music off because I'm tired of hearing the same 10 songs over and over and over again."

Gamespot had an interview with the 2K sports VP and they showed actual gameplay from All Pro 2K8 and it looks awesome. The animations are much better than any football game I've ever seen. I'm very curious to see how Madden 08 is going to look. 07 was a total piece of trash and not even close.

http://www.gamespot.com/shows/on-the-spot/

They said there will be a demo up in July on Xbox Live and PSN, so we'll definitely get to try it out any way.

Trailer for Madden 08. Some of the new catch / tackle animations look pretty sweet.

The player models still look way too big and the game seems too clunky and slow still. We'll just have to see...

lol at that article on the soundtrack especially madden acting like they are boosting 'unknown' artists when just about every artist on there has been well known for quite some time.

They so need to bring that franchise back from the dead.

Yeah, weapons... they're trying to somewhat distinct the great players from the good, and this is their attempt to do that. IDK if it was smart, and I kinda wish they had of left it out. Spammers rejoice unless you're good, then it won't matter.

http://sports.espn.go.com/videogames/news/story?id=2826180

Madden has finally given out its first 100 rating

to Devin Hester for Speed

I know the motherfucker's fast, but I think breaking such a significant threshold should go to someone a little more established than him.

Like maybe Peyton for awareness or Tomlinson for Carrying.

But I hope they only reserve the 100 rating for 1 player in each attribute to make it more special, if they are giving it out to anyone besides Hester at all.

Noticed that EA is making a different play version for WII. Called the "family mode" the players won't need to use the nunchuck and basically it will be for passing. Might open the doors for the folks who did not pick up a major sports game because the button scheme was too complicated.

^Yes, there is. However, when I made this thread, the mod moved it to entertainment. I tried to talk to the mod to get some sort of explanation, but he didn't give me a good reason why it was moved. I'm still miffed about it, but hopefully before the game comes out, more ppl will see the thread.

I wish EA would work on the presentation of these games. 2K5 had the best presentation, with replays of the biggest plays of the game at halftime and the end of the game, and the whole ESPN presentation was just awesome. The presentation in Madden is just butt. Hopefully the gameplay won't be butt this year though as it was total trash last year.

I think the presentation is fine. I just wish the next-gen versions of Madden had Al Michaels and John Madden, but for three years now, we're stuck with the same no-name guy. You'd figure EA would have had Madden in the game by now, but he's not. All and all, if sacrificing some graphics or presentation = better gameplay, then I'm for it.

"Madden 08 Countdown: Superstar Mode
Step into the shoes of an impact rookie and play your way into the Hall of Fame.
by Hilary Goldstein

July 30, 2007 - Madden NFL 08 is only three weeks away, and we couldn't be more excited for the upcoming release. Let's face it, the first two next-gen Madden's felt a little light on features and gameplay mechanics. It was like the series was treading water until Tiburon could deliver the goods. On August 14 those goods will be delivered with the first truly worthy Madden game in the past three years. To celebrate, we're counting down to the August 14 release of Madden with new features every day.

Superstar Mode is back. Though the popular feature hasn't seen many changes, there are a few new tweaks that should please fans. Once again, you are tasked with taking a rookie from obscurity to NFL stardom. You can accept nothing less than a trip to the Hall. All that you need is a dozen or so seasons of All-Star caliber play. Should be easy, right?

The twist is that this season, not only can you create a player and turn him into a Superstar, now you can import your NCAA Campus Legend or play as one of the NFL's rookies. While the obvious choice would be to pick Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson or one of the other impact rookies. After all, these are the future stars of the NFL. But the truly courageous will scroll down the long list of available rookies and try to find that diamond in the rough. Be the next Tom Brady. It won't be easy, but it's possible with the new Superstar Mode.

Once you've got your rookie in camp, most of Superstar Mode plays out as it did last year. If you're using a created player or your Campus Legend, you'll need to run through the NFL compound drills just like last year. How you perform determines team interest as well as defines some of your starting attributes. Yes, the IQ Test is back (curse you Tiburon for taxing our tiny brains) as are the media interviews that form your rook's persona. If you choose to pick one of the real life 08 rookies, you will be automatically assigned to the team that drafted them.

The progression of your rookie is pretty much the same as it was in Madden NFL 07, with one key difference. This year Tiburon added "weapons" into the mix. Off season training has you performing drills to add points to chosen weapon skills. Your rook will almost certainly not have any "weapons," so you'll need to build them up. This is an RPG-like system where you earn points to gain levels in different weapon skills. Boost a weapon skill enough and it's added to your rookie.

If you decide to play as Adrian Peterson, you'll find it easy enough to earn him the Elusive Back weapon. This allows a back to more easily slip out of tackles. But you will have to really work if you want the Stiff Arm Ball Carrier weapon. This awesome weapon lets a back lay down crushing stiff arms. But that's not Peterson's specialty, so it may actually take several off seasons to earn the skill. For the first time in Madden, you can really shape the type of player your rookie becomes.

One final welcome change was made to Superstar Mode. The camera, which was low and sometimes in bad locations, have been tweaked for every position. The camera is now much closer to the regular game camera and is no longer something gamers will struggle against. Hallelujah.

While Superstar Mode hasn't made a great leap forward, the additions certainly make for a more enjoyable experience. And considering Superstar Mode was the best thing about Madden 07, making that feature just a tad better is really all that was needed to keep us happy."

Man I really hope this game doesn't end up sucking ass like all the other next gen Maddens. I really want to have another football game to spend tons of hours on. Man I'm pissed that EA has the license. I can't wait until this deal is up.

I sincerely doubt this game will score higher than an 8.5 on any reviews, which is a shame. Remember the video they showed back in 2005 during the draft when they were pumping us for the next gen Madden? Look at the difference here:

Just look at the grass on this image and compare it to the actual games:

I played the demo for All Pro 2k8 and it wasn't too bad. Definitely has a whole lot of work to go if its going to be taken seriously. I think Madden will be the way to go this year, although it may suck as well.

Looks like the online modes on the 360 are craptastic right now, but hopefully this will be fixed by launch:

Quote :
"According to SportsGamer, the online play modes on Madden 08 are pretty terrible. The game itself was laggy, there is no Live opponent feature and a range of other 'glitches' make the whole online experience a bit of a shambles."

Oh, and I thought you guys would appreciate this:

http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=19582

Quote :
"
Take Two's All Pro Football 2k8 has gone and landed OJ Simpson back in court. OJ's likeness is highlighted in the title as he's associated with a team known as 'The Assassisn' who feature a hooded knife owning mascot. The family of murder victim Ron Goldman were said to be incensed by the likeness of OJ in the Football sim and the judge has since ruled that any money that OJ gained from his likeness within the game would go straight to the Goldmans estate. Take Two has since denied that the mascot is anything to do with OJ Simpson."

^^ The weapon system has me a little nervous. I think it is a good idea, but some of it sounds like shit to me. He said that the only players that can make really great catches are the ones with the "great catch" or whatever weapon. There are only like 15 of these receivers. Some of those great catches were just good adjustments and dives. Just about every WR in the NFL can dive and make great catches like these, so I think its going to be annoying as hell as you have to have a probowl receiver on your team to make a tough catch. Guess we'll just have to see how it turns out.

Has anyone played Madden 2007 on both the Wii and 360? I've played the 360 version and was not impressed, and of course 2006 was even worse.

Likes and dislikes of each system with the game?

From what I have heard so far the Wii version was more fun to play, but was not as "hardcore" as the 360 version... Which I would probably prefer I guess. Of course you sacrifice graphics as well for the Wii game. It's just the Madden games for the 360 so far have been pretty shitty imo. I would honestly prefer some NFL2K1 on the Dreamcast to it ( ) The graphics are still lacking from what I would expect and they just don't seem to function as well as they did on the old Xbox/PS2.

^Well, I know the 360 version of this year's Madden is running on 60 fps, so it's going to be a lot better as far as animations and gameplay are concerned. NCAA (60 fps also) runs a lot better now than the previous versions, so I'm looking forward to it.

I wouldn't know anything about the Wii version, but the impressions I get of the Wii version is that it's a cross between the current-gen gameplay and the past-gen graphics. I wish I knew more so I could tell ya, but I'm crossing over from PS2 to 360 this year.
