Saw this on Sunday, and I was quite impressed. It may not go down as the greatest movie of 2008, but it was really, really funny. Once it got going, anyway (it did start a little slowly, but from 15 minutes or so in, I was laughing most of the time). Carrell did definitely make the role his own, and while the explanation for Hathaway's age vs. 99's experience is a little contrived, I noticed what had to be one of the reasons for casting her: when she is wearing the wig, there are a couple of times where she looks a LOT like Barbara Feldon, who played 99 in the original show.

There were a lot of other little references to the original series...some of them obvious, but a few that were not so obvious (if you're familiar with how the intro to the show changed twice during the time it was on the air, pay attention for a reference to that...)

I grew up watching Get Smart every night and I loved the movie.

all i remembered from watching Get Smart as a kid were the gadgets and a little about the characters, so i wasn't disappointed at all by the movie

i laughed all the way through, not continuously (ouch that'd hurt) but they kept throwing in fun gags when i was starting to waver...

it's not the best comedy i've seen, but it's probably the best comedy i've seen in theaters in a few years

by "the spinoff movie" im assuming you are referring to this movie...?

you'd be about the only person ive talked to personally about this movie that didnt enjoy it. Not saying you arent entitled to your own opinion, but going from most people saying they genuinely enjoyed it to someone saying its "horrible" surprises me.

yea sorry, i agree that its not but i was just thinking since it was a tv show and this was a movie, maybe you worded it weird. And I hadnt heard anything about the spinoff that you linked

it had everybody basically from the get smart movie minus steve - agent 99 was even wearing the same white jumpsuit looking outfit
