2

as in who's gonna be the number 2 receiver to start the year?

Does Jarrett get it from the start?

Or Colbert or Carter

I guess that's for Spartanburg to decide

I figured they would cut garbage ass Keary Colbert, we had one too many recievers once we took Robinson as a return man.

gg Meshawn

Someone on PP said it was b/c Keyshawn refused to take the blame for bad throws by Jake the snake that resulted in interceptions. Jake Delhome sucked before Keyshawn got there, and you need 3 good receivers these days. We now have 1 and a rookie. What the fuck.

he was probably cut for running a shitty route leading to the INT at the end of the Bengals game and then for running the fade route against Philly like a little bitch and letting that pass get picked off too..."give me the damn ball" except if its my slack ass that could prevent the INT, i wont do it because i'm the man

good riddance

Haha "good riddance" was exactly what i was gonna post here.

Ive always hated this guy and was forced to attempt to cheer for him last year.

And then he sucked balls for us.

He wont be missed.

How the hell can any of you hate on Vick and TO so much and then love this pompous jackass who isnt half the player that either of them are

i wouldn't say he is as bad as TO

and i wouldn't try to compare him to vick

i agree with the "let's get younger" mentality... but i think something is gonna have to be done with Delhomme to help this all progress (my thoughts, have him go the kurt warner path)

^^good point, but he's way better than the 3rd best receiver on the team and rarely drops passes that hit him in the hands. Basically, I wouldnt be upset about this if we had another option, but we dont, so fuck!

Quote :
"Here’s the deal: He was scheduled to count $3.25 million against the salary cap this year. Instead, the Panthers will have to absorb $3.75 million in outstanding pro-ration of his original bonus, but they’ll actually save cap room with this move. As part of a new rule this year, Johnson will be designated as a post-June 1 release. That will allow the Panthers to spread his cap hit over two years.

He’ll count $1.25 million this year and $2.5 million against the 2008 cap."

So we save 2 million this year.

And for those saying we could should have just trade him, realize that Randy Moss was just traded for a fourth round pick.

If an outspoken malcontent 30 year old receiver with 4.3 speed netted a 4th rounder, then an outspoken malcontent 34 year old with 4.7 speed would be lucky to get a 7th rounder in return.

There was just no market for his services.

If he wants to play next year, he'll find a team, but no one was willing to part with assets to get him.

Plus when you trade a player Im pretty sure you have to absorb the entire cap hit THAT season.

That was the whoel reason we cut him for cap purposes.

But I am agreeing with you ^ there was no market for Keyshawn. He'll get picked up on a small one year deal by someone looking to fill a void.

(i realize he might sign a "long-term" deal kinda like reggie white did for cap purposes, but for all intents & purposes it will be a 1 or perhaps 2 year deal)

yep I'm thinking money had pretty much NOTHING to do with this move. there had to have been some kind of internal dispute, etc. between keyshawn and the staff

i just hope jarrett can mature fast, keep his head on straight, and kick some ass next year without him

Knowing the kind of player Keyshawn is he will sign with Atlanta to prove a point. Mark my words thats where he will end up, they need receivers anyways.

seems like a pretty shitty move to me but what do I know

if jarett isnt what hes cracked up to be or there is an injury delhomme will suck even more, and who cares about having enough receivers already, we only know one of them to be good at this point

plus colbert fucking blows, why was he not cut

i expected us to cut keary and have jarrett and drew carter play #3/4...i think theres definitely reasons behind cutting Key, some we probably dont know about and wont know.

im not comfortable starting a rookie as a #3 but we'll see what happens...he might have to do his learning on the field.

smitty played as a rookie...scored a TD 1st time he ever touched the ball... in fox i trust

Guys, we are completely fine at receiver

Keyshawn is a mouth, too old, and didnt do that much for us in the first place

this is not going to hurt us in the least

This is why I hate the Panther Office and Coaching Staff. Johnson was still a reliable receiver for 3rd downs. It's not like he was taking a large part of the money. Johnson already had said this would be his last season, they could have used him to mentor and teach Jarret...

I can't agree with you that he did not do that much for us. He gave our offense a little more attitude, and also gave another threat on the field. All of us knew that 95% of the passes were most likely going to Smith, even if he was double or triple covered. Keyshawn was never given a real chance to succeed in that our Offensive strategy was to be conservative 2 plays then throw to smith for first down. Keyshawn made some key plays on many drives, whether blocking or catching.

People say he is slow, but he has sure hands and runs precise routes. He has experience and knows how to find the hole and be patient for the ball. And he can & does block - not many receivers do.

We did/don't need him to be great-we need him to play, he is impact by how he plays...I think there is something else going on that caused him to be let go.

probably the attitude problems that a lot of the skeptics brought up before he even signed last year

most panthers fans (myself included) were like "nah, he's grown up past that bullshit, he just wants to be a role player, and try to get another superbowl ring"

but he doesnt get the ball, or he misses balls he should catch, and he puts the blame off...not happenin keyshawn...key you know damn well you fucked up in the bengals game running your top side route as well as your shitty fade against a d-back 6" shorter than you in the philly game...which wouldve been ok if you could fucking admit it

Jake + Smitty + The Fox >>>>>>>>>> Keyshawn

Seems like we'll never get it right. Keys did win some games for us and helped free up Stevie when he was in the double d coverage. You better hope Jarret can step up and become a fast learner. Or else we'll be in trouble again.

indeed

the panthers need a new qb honestly...

some O-line bolstering, QB, d-line backup (2 of them are old) / LB, secondary, (now with out KJ) WR, RB

man...keyshawn was money....5 years before we signed him

i liked the guy last year...he was money as hell in the 1st quarter of the preseason games i went to...he was money in the tampa game when he had something to prove...other than that he wasnt all that...in hindsight i'd take muhammad last year over keyshawn last year any day of the week

I think its the fact that he could teach Jarrett some "tips and tricks" of a big wide receiver more than just missing his talent. Steve Smith, although stellar, can't teach him how to use that big body the same way.

^Agreed....I in no way was saying or trying to imply that Keys was great or our go to receiver. I was saying that he contributed in ways that are not measurable. Blocking, drawing a defender away, bringing extra attention on where he was positioned, and he can teach the younger receivers.

The Panthers Organization never seems to get the off season right....Maybe I am wrong but I do not see Jarret (sp??) coming in and being a dependable #2 receiver out the gate. I would love it, but I am pretty damn sure that is not going to happen.

Give Jake some weapons to help him out...Hell if Carr plays, he still going to need more than our only option Smith....

Colbert was good his rookie year then he got injured and he hasnt been the same since

Jarrett has more size and hence should have better posession receiver abilities than Colbert

and hopefully Carter will continue to progress as he showed lots of potential last year

also I heard an interview this morning with Ryne Robinson (the punt return draft pick we got)...sounded like not only did he get 91 catches last year but he lined up wide, slot, backfield, wherever...i think he could potentially be a nice piece of the offense if Jeff Davidson works out well...the new offense (and coordinator) is gonna be pivotal in our overall success this year

Certain people get an edge in the pros b/c they know something others don't. Everyone in the league is talented, some just know the tricks.

Jarrett will develop but the time to do so will be longer w/o Key.

Mentoring is a big part of the NFL...alot of older players play and teach the younger players on there team. Its called experience, whether they do it on purpose or whether they do it in practice/film only-it is still done.

^x7 I think most every fan, when Ryne Robinson(4th round) was drafted, said he could be the next Steve Smith(3rd round). He is shorter and fast so it's a natural assumption
