^^ Yeah i realize the absurdity of the comment but Im not that opposed to spending a year or so in the sandbox. Only Id likely not be doing it with the military, which may change things a bit. 5/24/2007 10:31:20 PM |

whos looking after the kid?
read lots of story where the ex(who did not have custody) got the kid temp(worked out between each other) and then the ex got full custody eventually.....most had to spend a ton to get there kids back and some didnt....some law that supposedly was to prevent that lots of judges are not going by......
this was even in cases where the person that went to Iraq was awarded full custody, eventually, the ex went to court to get full custody and was awarded it.

the USMC had a problem a couple of years ago with guys dropping their pilot slots/dropping out of flight school so they could put in for infantry and get to Iraq sooner/be on the ground and more "in the mix".
they were having trouble making their numbers for aviators, so they have to set a policy that if you dropped an aviation slot, you wouldn't be allowed to compete for other jobs, and would just get stuck with whatever was left, which was stuff like admin and ground supply. I knew a couple of guys who either decided to roll the dice or didn't think the Corps would actually make good on their promise, and sure enough, they ended up in admin and ground supply.

I reiterate...I just can't decide if it's wholly admirable, or just insane. Either way, I don't mean to knock it at all. That whole business is just foreign to me, based on my personal and social politics. 5/25/2007 10:51:22 PM |

understand.
from an operator's perspective, the whole thing can be pretty easily divorced from the politics.
from a political observer's perspective, it obviously cannot.
i therefore kinda see it through both sets of eyes.
of course, your usage of "politics", i believe, is where you really mean "philosophy", and not just of political issues. 5/25/2007 11:04:06 PM |

You can completely disagree with the politics (my opinion of this administration isn't the highest) and still feel like you should be over there. I just volunteered for 15 mos in Afghanistan this fall, but I'm out after that.5/26/2007 10:31:55 AM |

as far as the whole custody thing....me and my ex have a court order that states whenever i am not activated then i have full custody of tyler and with the military i have a family care plan that states that anytime i am activated, his dad gets power of attorney till i am deactivated. as far as him taking me to court for custody i really doubt that will happen. he had my son for 7 months while i was at fort leonard wood in military police school and when i got back, i had no custody issues at all. 5/29/2007 7:08:30 AM |
