How fast is the average Oink download? Does it usually max your connection, or what?

^i've downloaded stuff at 800-900 KB/s on a roadrunner connection

uploads dont usually hurt your system as they are a lot more infrequent

also you can always lower your max upload rate to like 7 KB/s so you can still download at full speed without wasting much bandwidth on U/Ls

oink sucks, i d/led maybe 2gb and had a poor ratio b/c i was seeding some stuff with 300+ seeders, i seeded for like 3 days and my ratio barely went up

they ended up disabling it and bitched at me in the IRC channel when i tried to explain that i tried to share stuff, they basically said no i didn't and 10 seconds later banned me with no explaination.

2.8 gb downloading, 2.5 shared, .809 ratio or so now.

takes forever for the shit to seed and get some downloaders.

How the hell do I get my ratio up?

I downloaded ~2 gb of music last night. While it was downloading, all the files had downloading speeds of ~100 kb/s and uploading speeds of ~0.8 kb/s

I don't have a limit on either of my uploads or downloads. After all the stuff was done downloading, I let all the music seed all last night and all day today. I ended up only getting 3 mb total upload in almost 24 hours of seeding.

Now my ratio is .009 and I'm in risk of getting kicked off. How can I upload more?

one thing about oink, you rarely ever upload anything, and if you do, it isn't fast or consistent. the whole place is saturated with seeders (which is why it's so goddamn fast to download stuff from there)

so one way to increase your ratio is just to leave your downloads open right...and they auto-seed? Doesn't require any effort on your part? And you can actually get a good ratio by doing this alone? I've left a bunch open but my ratio is a paltry .008 Now I have to be careful bot to go over 5GB.

just leave it alone... only time will build your ratio

also make sure that your port is open on your router so that people can connect to you -- if you use Azureus, there is a NAT/Firewall test in the menus somewhere

best way to upload is by uploading software that is large. get it from other places and seed there.

Synapse-

Yes, one way to increase your ratio is to download and have your firewall/ports/router whatever you're behind set up to allow upload - and you can upload and download at the same time. It's handy.

And yes, you can get a good upload ratio doing this, if you jump on something really wanted when it *FIRST* hits - just continue to let it upload after you finish. If you're one of the few seeders on something new and wanted you can really come out on top (be careful, you can also screw yourself if you're too close to ratio watch attempting this).

Although getting a large bit of something elsewhere and uploading there is *also* a good way to do it.(and a little less hellish)

Yes, welcome to bittorrent. I have a ratio of over 1 and I've never uploaded my own torrent in my life.

i'm not clever and it's fuckng up my ratio. i used to be

and i don't have the username and password or whatever i need to do the port forwarding. admin and admin doesn't work..

so i guess i'm fucked

Figure out which router you have, find it in this list http://www.phenoelit-us.org/dpl/dpl.html and login.

If the default isn't working, then do a software reset on your router (usually hold the reset button down while plugging in the power and for about 30 seconds after) and the default password should work.

No, it resets the router to factory-shipped conditions ... so if you or anyone else made changes (such as securing a wireless network), you'll need to redo them.
