i remember playing cary the year after they won state and they had austin herbert for his senior year(state punter) and he was the goalie for their team, kicked the shit out of the ball...i was the goalie for new bern and i distinctly remember catching one of his punts in my box..it was crazy


it was like the 2nd round of state playoffs at new bern, we won 1-0 i think in 1999 to only lose in the next round in my worst game ever in high school(a loss to Eastern Wayne)

we played leesville in 3rd round of playoffs my senior year in 2000, we lost 4-0, prob my 2nd worst game in my school career...but the first goal i think was what did it...i went up to challenge their striker on a header( he was like 6'6" i forgot his name, he went to ECU if i remembber) but he elbowed me in the head, im pretty sure intentionally, and i never recovered from that... i hate that was how my soccer career ended

yea they were notorious for their dirty play...i took a nice elbow senior year and we had a guy get his neck/collarbone stomped on intentionally...but we kept them out of the playoffs senior after they had owned the conf for a few years

whats funny is we had a bus with our fans roll up in their place and our crowd was as large as theirs, that was the last year i think soccer was in prime at new bern, the fans loved soccer there...

we had some fans as well...all the parents actually chipped in so the students could get in free so visiting teams were hassled pretty good...never played new bern, but i hated a lot of those eastern teams (fayettville/greenville teams)...so cocky and not good at all

haha greenville rose was our rival, my soph year there was a brawl between both teams, i wasnt starting yet, but man, new bern and Rose hated each other in soccer with a passion


ok so you were a year behind me, you prob played leesville when they had that tall ass striker, i think he had blond hair, or bleached hair, he was slow as shit, just tall and competed in the air...i hate him to this day

the conference new bern played in was easy as hell, my junior year(first year i fully started as GK) we went 10-0 in conference play and didnt allow a single goal...to this day i still think we shouldve won state championship that year, our team was so freakin good, i just had a horrible first half in the 3rd round of the playoffs that year and we lost 4-3 to eastern wayne

yea i miss it too...i have dreams every now and then about (illegally) coming back to the team and playing goalie to help out teams of the high school after i graduated...def lame , but i cant help it, i love soccer

i dont recall that name...he didnt play on the team i was on, when i played for j-ville it woulve been 2 years younger than you, most of the guys were from White Oak, Jacksonville, Swansboro and a few from New Bern....he prob was on 83s or 84s


there was a guy on my team named DJ something, i knew at the time he held the record for most goals in high school in a season and career for north carolina, but that couldve been broken by now

Swansboro was a 1-A school, but damn if they werent good, we played them a couple times when i was there, and beat them both times but they were just as good as any 4-A team in the state
