calling out an anecdote in a thread full of anecdotes?
^^ nah, it was already there when they moved in. Also, I was incorrect, it's Wolf and Sub-Zero. he's had multiple service calls on everything but the range, which is why he hates it.
All that said, Wolf, Viking, Sub-Zero, and the other high-end manufacturers do tend to have poorer reliability ratings compared with the average. I tend to like my shit to work.
I've got a mishmash of different appliances that the previous owners had. We did replace the refrigerator with a Kitchenaid, which is fine so far. That replaced a Kenmore manufactured by LG which shit the bed at the ripe old age of 6. I think our ovens are kenmore as well, and seem to work ok. I hate our bosch dishwasher because it doesn't have a heated dry cycle. our range is an induction cooktop made my dacor. I'd never heard of them before having one in this house, but it's probably one thing i do not want to replace. 6/7/2016 3:28:58 PM |

Eh...my wife's parents have a 15+ year old sub zero and it purrs like a kitten. Obviously it's out of our price range, so it was not mentioned.
We did go to an appliance store and the guy showed us some top of the line ranges (that were running some crazy deals that made them in our price range), but then mentioned that they're more for show than actual cooking. The name of the brand was escaping...but they did look amazing. 6/7/2016 4:36:47 PM |

Just bought a Samsung washer and dryer pair for my wife. Hope I don't regret it as the reviews were mixed on the dryer. May take out a Squaretrade warranty on each just for piece of mind.
Current washer and dryer are about 5 years old, still run well, but my wife has really wanted to get a top loader again. Going to flip the current pair on Craigslist. 6/7/2016 10:01:33 PM |

Is black stainless just a fad or will it still look nice in 10 years?
[Edited on November 12, 2018 at 12:33 PM. Reason : Oh btw Sears Outlet (at least Garner one) has an extra 10% off their already low prices through Wed] 11/12/2018 12:29:22 PM |

Not a bad idea. Motor on mine just went out and it was close to $500. Ended up doing a home warranty through Sears and got 50% off. I was going to do one anyway so it worked out alright but they did say that Samsung looks great and is great when running, but has a lot of unique challenges for repairs.11/12/2018 1:56:19 PM |

We have GE Café appliances in the kitchen (gas range, dishwasher, microwave/hood) and it's all been pretty legit. Also have a Samsung French door fridge. It's decent. No real complaints about any of it yet. 11/15/2018 2:12:16 PM |

fwiw: https://blog.yaleappliance.com/bid/86332/the-least-serviced-most-reliable-appliance-brands
and from consumer reports:
Quote : | "Top-Freezers Refrigerators Short on style and features, this traditional configuration offers the best value. Only 8 percent of refrigerators in CR’s survey are top-freezers.
Top-freezers, as a category, have the highest predicted reliability. Despite these high marks, top-freezers are rated second-lowest in terms of owner satisfaction.
Within the category, five brands earned an Excellent rating for predicted reliability: LG, Maytag, Ikea (made by Whirlpool), Kenmore (made by Frigidaire and LG), and Whirlpool. But only LG received a positive owner satisfaction rating (earning a Very Good), making it the best top-freezer brand to choose.
GE top-freezers got only a Good rating for predicted reliability and a Fair rating for owner satisfaction. As for Samsung, the brand is so new to the category that we don’t yet have enough survey data to provide ratings.
Bottom-Freezers These refrigerators aren’t as widely sold as French-door and side-by-side models, but they do provide a slightly more upscale look than top-freezers.
The best bottom-freezer brands are LG and Kenmore, which earned Very Good ratings for predicted reliability and owner satisfaction. KitchenAid also earned a Very Good rating for predicted reliability but only a Good rating for owner satisfaction.
Brands with unfavorable reliability ratings include Amana, Ikea, Fisher & Paykel, Maytag, and Whirlpool. Despite the Fair reliability rating of these brands, Fisher & Paykel still earned a Very Good rating for owner satisfaction.
French-Doors This configuration, which places fresh-food items at eye level behind side-by-side doors, has become the most popular refrigerator type in recent years. That’s confirmed by our survey, in which 52 percent of refrigerators were French-door models.
Despite their popularity, no French-door brand earned above a Good rating for predicted reliability, and only one brand—LG—earned a Very Good rating for owner satisfaction. The best brands to choose from are Kenmore, Samsung, and LG, which earned Good ratings for predicted reliability.
You probably want to avoid Frigidaire, Bosch, Electrolux, and Fisher & Paykel in this configuration because they all received Poor ratings for predicted reliability and Fair or Poor ratings for owner satisfaction. All other French-door brands earned Fair reliability ratings, including GE, Maytag, and Whirlpool.
Side-by-Sides Only 28 percent of refrigerators in our survey were side-by-sides, which are ideal for tight kitchens thanks to narrow doors that swing out to each side. Two side-by-side brands, Amana and Whirlpool, earned Very Good ratings for predicted reliability, but both of them—along with most others—got only Fair ratings for owner satisfaction.
The one exception? LG, which managed a Good rating for satisfaction but a Fair rating for reliability. On the lower end, Electrolux earned Poor ratings for reliability and satisfaction, so it’s best avoided." |
[Edited on November 26, 2018 at 12:46 PM. Reason : beatsunc says to avoid Samsung and LG...maybe he can share more here. Whirlpool seems to reign supreme in reliability, but they aren't flashy/feature-laden like the Korean brands]]11/26/2018 12:43:36 PM |

No leaks with our ice maker yet *knock on wood*
The fridge has two of them. I guess I have twice the risk of failure. So far, so good. *Continues wood knocking* 11/26/2018 4:38:39 PM |
