Listen to this pretentious shit:
Quote : | "001: Radiohead Kid A [Capitol; 2000]
Exactly how and why Radiohead's Kid A has come to stand as the definitive artistic statement for rock consumers born after 1975 is almost ridiculously difficult to discern. People believed (and continue to believe) in the metaphysical heft of Kid A: in its aesthetic worth, its innovation, its meaning. In 2000, Kid A felt true and inscrutable; five years later, it somehow still does: From its chilling opening organ figure to its closing silence, Kid A is enormous-- a huge, sweeping testament to Radiohead's ever-swelling worldview.
Kid A was an obvious departure from its predecessor, the guitar-swollen OK Computer, and it alternately challenged and confounded Radiohead's core audience. Regardless, the record's supposed difficulty also lent it a certain sense of gravity: Kid A is confrontational and insistent, mysteriously capable of convincing some of the most stridently anti-electro guitarheads that inorganic flourishes can feel bloody and real. Consequently, in the months following its release, Kid A transformed into an intellectual symbol of sorts, a surprisingly ubiquitous signifier of self. Owning it became "getting it"; getting it became "annointing it." The record's significance as a litmus test was stupid and instant and undeniable: In certain circles, you were only as credible as your relationship to this album. And that kind of intense, unilateral, with-us-or-against-us fandom felt oddly, uncomfortably apropos in the face of all that sound.
It is in this weird sense that Kid A was (and continues to be) the perfect record for its time: Ominous, surreal, and impossibly millennial, its revolutionary tangle of yelpy, apocalyptic vocals, glitchy synths, and beautiful drones is uncertain about both its past and present-- and, accordingly, timeless." |

Kid A and OK Computer are incredible albums.
The songs on The Bends are incredible songs (and there's plenty of other fantastic shit in the catalog, but that's beside the point).
Right now, in 2007, Radiohead is not the best band in the world. I don't really know who'd I say the best band in the world is, because most of the really great records of the past twelve months have been solo records, but the Arcade Fire is a better band than Radiohead today (despite my relative distaste for Neon Bible), and that's what we're talking about. 6/1/2007 12:37:07 AM |

^^ Really, it's more than pretty good.
I put it with Pet Sounds in the realm of albums that are much more than the sum of their parts; beautiful composed and complete musical thoughts.
^ I'm saying that at one point, the Beach Boys were much better than the Beatles, and at this point, there are numerous bands who are much better than Radiohead. ] 6/1/2007 12:42:18 AM |

something never clicked with me with the arcade fire. for some reason they just werent my thing and people were all over their nuts for so long. thats more just personal preference but from my point of view theyve been insanely overrated. but most overrated of our time? def not.
I have to disagree with the Red Hot Chili Peppers tho. They have a pretty huge and solid disco. Even their albums over the last 6 years or so have had a lot of good songs despite not being good albums
Quote : | "I don't have to listen to all of Radiohead's albums to tell you they are overrated" |
i also have to say i majorly disagree with you there. That is pretty idiotic to say that a band with an amazing disco is overrated without even listening to all their albums. In fact they are far from overrated, they were one of the best bands in the world for awhile

everclear imogen heap (its a fucking vocoder, get over it)
and if i may diverge to an equally interesting topic: most overrated side projects
fire theft (sdre) sparta/mars volta (atdi) gorillaz/tgtbatq (blur) special goodness (weezer) statistics (desperacidos) zwan (pumpkins)
and while not exactly overrated, any band which contains a member who at any point in their career was in blink-182 is instantly deemed terrible. 6/1/2007 12:53:05 AM |

I have nothing but DEEEEEP abhorration for AC/DC. Fucking atrocious. I cringe every time I hear them; any song. And the way some crackers act when the shit comes on is indeed fucking embarrassing.
And as far as Jay-Z, what he did in 96, I thought, was stellar. Haven't liked him since, though.
To this day, however, I attribute my ability to distinguish the major TV networks to Jay-Z.

Aerosmith. At least from 1988 on. Glory be to God when they pack it up.
