I'm a Florida alum, so I'm a bit biased toward the SEC on this. The Swamp certainly is loud, because of the design (and having ~27,000 students at each game), but LSU is probably louder at a big night game. Tennessee had the best "game day experience" of any place I've ever been, but Neyland wasn't especially loud (although that was before the last expansion there). Around the SEC, Kentucky has the nastiest fans, South Carolina the most loyal fans, Georgia and Alabama the friendliest, but none of those stadiums are particularly intimidating.

Clemson and VT top the ACC, well ahead of FSU in my mind. Around the country, Texas A&M is well-organized & loud, and Nebraska is always packed with red. PSU, OSU, the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl are all so big that they're intimidating. Wisconsin can be crazy sometimes. The Carrier Dome was loud when Syracuse was decent. As an opposing fan, I would be really scared to go to Morgantown, WV. The Orange Bowl doesn't really impress me that much, since it's half-full (or less) for most games.

and the weird thing about Neyland is that its SO vertical, and completely oval shaped, no flat surfaces at all, so all the sound is just channeled straight down, the lower you are the louder it is. I have sat directly behind the band and you can even hear them...

Well I think the reason why recently Ohio Stadium has become so highly regarded as a tough stadium to play in is b/c of the renovation that happened in 1999 and 2000. The track was removed, the field lowered and more seating closer to the action was put in. Before that even though it was a large venue, none of the fans were right on top of you. Vince Young when asked "How loud was the Rose Bowl game and how tough was it to play there" he responded with, "It wasn't that bad. Ohio State, man, Ohio State was the loudest place I've ever played. The Rose Bowl is wider and more open, but Ohio State is more closed in and everyone is so loud and on top of you. You could hear all the little things people said about you. Man, that was the toughest place I've ever played."

This coming from a guy that's played at a very tough venue in Texas A&M, where only 2% of the 45,380 students don't receive tickets. That's only 907 students that miss out. Can you imagine what Carter-Finley would be like if only 623 of the 31,130 students couldn't attend the game. That would end up being 53% of C-F's current capacity being students. Imagine having the entire east stands plus part of the SEZ for the band and some other students, being all filled with students? It'd be absolute insanity and we would surely then have the toughest stadium in the ACC, especially with the bowled in effect now.

8. oregon (location, fans, and colors will get you)
9. clemson (structure and fans get them this spot)
10. michigan (basically the size of this place is all you need to intimidate the opposition and if the game is tight enough, the largest crowd in america shows up despite usual quiet consistency)

Ohio State's overall record in Ohio Stadium is 350-101-20. LSU's record is 354-138-18. Couple that with the fact that LSU only does well at night, a 19-22-3 (.432) record during the day. They're abysmal if they play day games. OSU wins whenever the game is played. Ohio Stadium is loud too. I'll bump them up to #2 though since you and another poster would like it.

I somewhat agree that they would have a tougher time in the SEC, but the Big Ten has some very capable teams too. Just b/c they got destroyed by Florida in the national title game, doesn't mean that they couldn't compete in the SEC. Give credit where credit is due, Meyer had the boys from ol' Florida ready, and OSU never seemed the same after Ginn left. Let's look at it further.

In terms of major national football powers the Big Ten has Michigan, OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State, Michigan State (despite being the biggest underachievers out there they routinely are in the Top 25), Purdue.

The SEC has LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and sometimes Arkansas. It's all about the SEC's speed versus the Big Ten's strength. If there was a Big Ten/SEC challenge in football, I'd predict the SEC would win, but it would be close.

Conference A = harder conference
Conference B = easier conference

take a team out of A and put into B, they will have a better record
take a team out of B and put into A, they will have a worse record

HALF of Tenn's scehdule was in the top 10, not top 25, top 10 when they played them last year.


^ as for you... first off, Michigan State and Iowa are no where near national powers yet, hell Wisconsin isnt even yet, you have to win your conference a decent amount of times to be a power, and thats just a start.

second, its not just florida, Ohio State is 0-9 against Bama, Tenn, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina

Unlike Italians and many other soccer fans, I like to be able to see the game instead of looking at the back of a banner, and breathing smoke in from flares all game long. What's the point of acting like an idiot and hitting a player with a flare, then your team just has to forfeit, so then you lose.

Besides 85,700 is weak when you consider there are a lot of other soccer stadiums that are bigger and louder.

LSU games are like a religious experience mixed with booze and insanity. It really is an nuthouse in Baton Rouge. I saw a game there in 2003 and it blew my mind.

Miami is underrated. Sure the stadium is not full, but it does get pretty damn loud. And the Orange Bowl is an initimidating place. It looks like a prison yard, its big, and its sound system is ridiculously loud. And then you got a mix of rednecks, cubans, and lunatics in that stadium on gamedays. AND THEY SERVE BEER AT THE OB.

The SEC leads the Big Ten with a 69-61-6 all-time record. The SEC has a .529 winning percentage versus the Big Ten. Since 1990, the SEC leads with a 30-23-0 record and a .566 winning percentage.

Ive been to the VT, FSU and Clemsons's stadium and BY FARRRRR..Virginia Tech has the toughest stadium to play in, in the ACC....i love My Wolfpack..but when those damn hokie people get going and taht uneven stadium gets hopping up and down in unison...it's FUCKING CRAZY!!

That's why it was such an awesome victory when we went to Blacksurg and beat them on taht missed field goal hehe..GO PACK!!

I was there with freinds and sitting behind the goal when it went wide right..but from teh angle I was sitting in I couldnt see the ball coming down until it had started coming down..the NCSU fans went crazy...I was sitting so high up and at such a high angle..my buds and I fell down like 2 rows from jumping up and down and yelling, and drinking(hehe) once we realized the Pack had secured the victory...GO PACK!
