That's not entirely true. It all depends on the context. Within the frame of the overall plot, it's a prequel, but as a chronological body of work, it is also a sequel since it was made later than the original.

OED definition of sequel:

Quote :
"a published, broadcast, or recorded work that continues the story or develops the theme of an earlier one."

OED definition of prequel:
Quote :
"a story or film containing events which precede those of an existing work."

SO WHAT if there's more of em and more guns and marines getting slaughtered...the ONE alien of the first movie is scarier than all the aliens in the second movie combined."

i like aliens better, and you could argue which cast's situation is scarier/more desperate. would it be worse to be on a spaceship inhabited by a deadly creature you know nothing about and have no idea nor the means to kill it? or would it be more hopeless to be stranded on a space colony full of them and be undersupplied with no hope for rescue for weeks?

a fight scene going on for 15 minutes does not mean it is good.

the car chase was fantastic, but the rest was a shit sandwich.

and Desperado is not nearly as good as El Mariachi, are you on crack

A prequel is basically a sequel that takes place before the original work.

Batman Begins, however, is neither. It essentially ditched all the old material. It's as much a sequel to the 1990's Batman films as the 1990's films are a sequel to the Batman movie with Adam West.

^Well using the ditching of old material as a definition Matrix 3 isn't a sequel of Matrix 2.

I have to agree with Aliens, Spiderman 2, Blade 2, Before Sunset and Babe: Pig in the City being the best sequels that improved on their originals - and why did it take so long for anyone to mention Blade 2? It was awesome.

Also:
Matrix 3 > Matrix > Matrix 2
El Mariachi was better than Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Spidey 2 > Spidey 1 or 3

Oh yeah, the forgotten:

Hot Shots! Part Deux >>> Hot Shots!

el mariachi is not better than desparado and if you think that then you're on crack
it was great for a small budget movie but desparado is so much better,

I like El mariachi better because it was before Rodriguez had a big enough budget to put comic book like effects into the fight scenes.

The only chance that reboot has is that Rise of is ostensibly a remake of the fourth original movie, Conquest of.

watching Aliens for the first time since i was a kid. the very first thing i noticed was the music reminded me of 2001. (after a wikipedia search, they did both use music from "Gayane's Adagio from Aram Khachaturian's Gayane ballet suite")

The loss of Wesley Snipes really hurt the 2nd movie. Omar Epps is cool, but he wasn't Wesley Snipes. I still liked it though. Hell, I enjoyed all 3

all of the original planet of the apes movies > all the new planet of the apes movies. especially that marky mark shit. ugh awful.

also the one where the telepathic mutants worship the atomic bomb is the best.
