dude is totally jesus. the others are possibly apostles. there were a bunch of biblical references, not to mention, the scene where the girl was totally kneeling before him. I need to watch the first four episodes again, but that's what I'm currently thinking

show is really, really weird.

i'm interested to see what happens when we find out what john's deal is.

if we, and the characters, find out he's jesus or discover what is actual powers are, where does the series go from there?

it's possible maybe that john is the holy spirit and shaun is the second coming and they're gathering apostles. Luke Perry is the devil, etc

john says in the first episode that 'room 24 shall give up its dead and they will be forgiven' or something like that....and that fop millionaire saw ghosts in there.

They said that John's last name on the credit card is Monad. I looked up Monad and here's what Wiki says: "Monism, the metaphysical and theological view that all is of one essence, and this essence is sometimes called the monad.
Monad (symbol), For many others, including Pythagoras, Parmenides, Xenophanes, Plato, Aristotle, and Plotinus, Monad was a term for God or the first being, or the totality of all beings. "

I thought that second part was very interesting, and obviously has some meaning for the show.

alright now think about the first episode, when 2 characters were introduced at the same time, John and Luke Perry's character. Which most likely represent good and evil. John is trying to bring the family together, while at the same time, Luke Perry is trying to split them up.

Another thing i thought was interesting about the last episode was the continuation of the doctors role. I'm pretty sure he is there to show mans struggle of Science vs. Faith. I wonder if his character makes it much further than this

The blonde film girl im still not sure about

The characters bill, and the hawain are probably going to play the part of some kind of protectors/guardian angels type people

Anothing interesting thing to note was the appearance of the woman towards the end, (who we now know is Shawn's mom) And that is going to be a whole nother problem. I would be willing to guess she is the reason why Shawn's character is only listed for 6 episodes. She raises hell on the next episode, then takes him on the 6th episode

did i forget anything?

"Hi there. I'm David fucking Milch. You may remember me as the creative tour-de-force behind Deadwood, a critically acclaimed HBO series that ended prematurely so that I could launch John From Cincinnati. Some people say that was like ending Seinfeld in season 3 to jump right into The Michael Richards Show, but those people don't understand the subtlety and nuance of ten annoying surfers in varying states of insanity wandering around and getting into pointless arguments with one another until there's a clumsy physical altercation and a pointless "mysterious" ending."

It sucks that this is the show that is replacing Deadwood. It's not really good.

(To elaborate, unlike the good HBO dramas, this one doesn't have a single likable character. Every second while watching it, I hope all the characters get ice picks jammed in their foreheads. Deadwood and Rome, OTOH, had so many interesting characters.

And instead of hinting at an interesting plot in each episode, they should actually have an interesting plot.)

the frowny face should be a clue

i am definitely thinking that john is supposed to be the second coming. that was my first thought after the second episode, and after the last few i think it's even more likely. i certainly can't think of any other theories that fit as well.

one thing i noticed that was kinda interesting was bill calling john a human parrot. it kind of drew a parallel between john and zippy the parrot, who had been "conveying" instructions to bill for some time. also zippy and john have both been involved in strange healing processes. zippy first appeared dead and then came back when shawn touched him and then healed shawn later. john got stabbed and then used joe to heal himself. obviously there's a lot of confusion surrounding everything though so it's really hard to say what the hell is going on a lot of the time, but i think in general that connection between zippy and john is not insignificant.

also, i think it was made even more clear in the ending of this last episode that if john is the second coming, all of the main characters we've seen so far are supposed to be his disciples/followers.

if this theory is indeed correct, then i think the show is pretty cool and is a really interesting portrayal of the second coming concept. if not, then i still have no clue what's going on in and it can only go so much longer before the confusion turns into a loss of interest in the show.

does anyone have any ideas of anything the show could be other than a modern take on the second coming?

^Thats the only thing I can think of. John kept referring to his father in this episode, and I'm assuming he was referring to God. I've gotta go back and watch that episode though. As good as it was, it was a lot to take in in an hour.
I'm thinking that a lot more is going to be revealed in the coming episodes, and makes things a little more clear.

I read this on another forum, and it makes sense:
In his speach he says something about 9-11, then he says 9-11-14. This is a bible verse.

Hebrews 9:11-14

Listen to this passage

The Blood of Christ
11When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here,[a] he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. 12He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. 13The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

He brought them together in that one place to heal them all at the cookout.
This is the second coming of Christ!

^^ i didn't really read the whole thread, just the last few posts. I figured if people realized the connection then him being a god figure or JC or whatever really shouldn't be a surprise or discovery, which is what it seemed like from the posts just before mine. So I assumed it hadn't been brought up.

^that's what I gathered. If she didn't actually do it for him she stood there and told him how to do it.

wow. I watched that episode last night having never seen one of these yet. Lets just say I was confused but at the same time extremely intrigued.... after reading the above I really wish I had DVRed the previous episodes so I can catch up but I guess I will have to just read about em and keep on watching. I think that this show is not for the masses just yet, but it has enormous potential...

^^ she did it for him. Remember how he kept doing the spanky wanky in the window and she broke down. Thats a decently hot mom, but I'd be completely phucked up in the head if it was my mom...

Was anyone confused by the random dead guy that he took out of the hotel room and sat down and nobody noticed. I was.

Also, I rewatched that scene a lot and it looks like when they panned down he was already writing something, but what we got to see looked something like this:

It's one thing to have mysteries that arise naturally and believably within the context of the plot, and it's another thing to have mysteries that are obviously contrived by the writers to get you to watch next week. Lost suffer from the latter. Veronica Mars had a lot of the former.

The latter type of mystery is distasteful because it's like the writers have no shame about toying with you. It's also lazy in that the technique is a blunt object; all the writers have to do is throw out a bunch of random shit and its automatically "mysterious."

That's a long way of saying I don't really want to find out about all the bullshit they raised in the last episode. When I watch a show, I want to notice the story, not the contrivances of the writer.

the writer's in this show need to cut the bullshit. we don't need 10 minutes of ed bundy talking to himself every episode. and seriously, aside from butchie and the hotel crew, most of the actors are annoying/not good (sissy, john, shaun, kai).still, i'm gonna see how this season pans out. their has to be some payoff
