These claims seem absurd to me. If you have an idea of weight and power... You're going to get some idea of what the car's capable of.

There's also the fact that the Japanese have built many "fast" cars in the past, that don't feel all that great to drive, nor are reliable on track. Not fun brings up the 3000gt/supra, not reliable (but oh what a great drive) the RX-7.

Lexus LF-A Rumored to be Priced Over $200K

I don't see any "knee pad". Giant vents are cheezy for a production car? Well, this isn't a Camry or a Lexus sedan. This is an exotic supercar, and supercars sure have huge vents, and nobody calls them cheesy, especially if they are functional. And I am sure they are functional.

Those taillights (and the headlights) are some of the best on any car. Do you like your [tail]lights to have the generic trapezoidal look that is found on everything from Kias to MBs?

This Dutch auto journalist just a few days ago says the LFA is the BEST car he has ever driven! And he says it should be parked next to Zondas and Carerra GTs and McLaren F1s... wow.

Damn, it is rarer and more expensive than the Murcielago! And with that redline, it is obvious Toyota have gone with the racy F1 approach, rather than a gentleman's cruiser. The floodgates have been opened for showdowns with Italian and German supercars for the next several months, and of course, with the GT-R.

Overall, the car is gorgeous and quite unique looking. I prefer the headlights of the concept though (esp those of the roadster concept you see on this page). And the wheels are bloody gorgeous.

The headlights and tail lights look like my gfs IS250. The scoop and dropped window line remind me of the Hyundai Genesis coupe. The spoiler came off a Veyron. The seats are Mercedes.

Lexus had a perfectly clean slate to make their own supercar...and they took the safe route and didn't design anything dramatic and copied styling cues from everyone else. Nothing ground breaking here. I don't like this car.

zomg. You n00bs need to stop saying, "This looks like a ________" or "OMG, The seat are Mercedes." So fucking what?

You know why the headlights and tail lights look like your gfs IS250? BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH LEXUS. Actually, you must have bad memory, or just bad eyes, because they are quite different. There's really not too much in common between the IS250 headlights/taillights and the LF-A, in terms of styling.

You sir, must be a troll. GG. You forgot to mention the "Ferrari exhaust" and the fact that it has an combustion engine like just about every other carmaker.

+1 for a extremely sexy car. But for the price, I'd rather buy a GT3-RS and an R8 and pocket the difference.

I still stand by what I said. They are both Lexus so yes, they will have similar styling cues. However, the LF-A is much sleeker looking than the IS250. To each their own.

No, I am not American, but I have been told by many people that I act and talk more American than any other race/country/ethnicity.

About the car, I am not too happy with the lights on both ends. The headlights actually have an awkward 'unbalanced' shape. The lights were far superior on the concepts. So in that respect, I am not happy with Lexus. As for the body shape, wheels, spoiler, and interior, I am very happy, that stuff is all banging, if you ask me.

And I bet it performs like a beast too, and I have a feeling it will break the ACR Viper's, ZR-1's, and GT-R's 'Ring records. At least a couple of them.

But that price and exclusivity is not good. They are apparently taking a loss on each one, even at that price. But maybe if they made a thousand or 2 of them, and lowered the price a bit, they could have less of a loss, or even break even/make a profit. It is silly to make only 500. This ain't a Veyron or a special edition Lambo/Porsche.

Ja, as far as I know the "mid engine" label is assigned when the entire engine is inside the wheelbase. Oddly enough, some mid engined cars don't qualify, while a few front engined cars do. S2000 has the entire engine behind the front axle, so that passes, I believe the 350z does as well, but not positive on that. Some mid engined cars have to be qualified as "mid rear", and many will refer to the S2000 as "mid front" or "front mid". The LF-A I believe has a front mount design, it may very well have the engine behind the front axle as well, but I wouldn't call it a "midship" either, since I don't think the engine is behind the passenger compartment...

If anybody is wondering why they are only making 500, and why it is so expensive ($375K), you should read this very interesting and informative read:

This is simply an F1 car for the road, unlike a lot of supercars of today. And remember, 65% of it is carbon fiber, and 35% aluminum, no steel at all. That explains some of the cost as well.

Inside the hollow torque ball is the universal joint of the driveshaft that allows relative motion between the two ends of the driveshaft. In most applications the drive shaft uses a single universal joint which has the disadvantage that it causes speed fluctuations in the driveshaft when the shaft is not straight. The Hotchkiss drive uses two universal joints which has the effect of canceling the speed fluctuations and gives a constant speed even when the shaft is no longer straight[citation needed].

Examples of the torque tube were the American cars of the Ford brand up through 1948, which used the less expensive transverse springs that could not take the thrust[citation needed]. Buick started using coil springs in the 1930s, as did Nash's post-war Airflyte model; these also necessitated using a torque tube. American Motors (AMC) also continued to use a coil spring rear suspension design with a torque tube on their large-sized cars (Rambler Classic and Ambassador) through the 1966 model year. The 1961-1963 Pontiac Tempest incorporated an unusual curved “torque-tube” with a 4-inch drop (about 10 centimeters) that housed a 3/4 inch (2 cm) solid steel driveshaft (nicknamed the "rope shaft") without universal joints on each end. The main purpose was to make the floor lower, thus increasing the car's interior room. The Peugeot 504 and the Volvo 300 Series also used a torque tube. The torque tube driveline is also used in Sprintcars and Midget cars. The C5 and C6 Chevrolet Corvette, Lexus LF-A, Porsche 924, Porsche 928, Porsche 944, Aston Martin DBR9, Aston Martin DBS, Aston Martin DB7, and upcoming Mercedes AMG SLS also use variations on this design.

Okay I read Autoblog's review and I'm not "seeing" what OEPII1 said I should.

And how's that, exactly?

LFA: 552bhp, 354 lb-ft, 3,263 lb curb weight
Carrera GT: 605hp, 405 lb-ft, 3,000 lb curb weight

The only disadvantage I can see performance-wise is the GT using a true manual 6sp with a clutch pedal instead of something paddle shifted.

I don't feel as harsh about the styling as I did before. I've decided that white looks horrible on this car.



Car looks way better in black, probably b/c you can't see all the ridiculous vents. Nonetheless, this doesn't look like a $375k car. Instead it looks like a $100k competitor for the GT-R



Now...THAT car looks like it's worth $400k

But that's in comparison with the rest of the Lexus vehicle line. Like the article said, they made it just because they could, not really to compete with other cars. With that said, I too would take a Carrera GT. Too bad they aren't making them though. :/ So really, I think I'd just have to get a Lamborghini Murcielago. But then again, I'd rather just get a Gallardo LP 560-4 and pocket the difference (I like the smaller Gallardo more actually).
