sweet! $200 for the package, and instead of giving me free updates, I can drop $5-$10 PER WEEK on this game! Awesome! [/sarcasm]

Well you can download single songs in addition to entire albums, so at least you don't have to deal with unwanted songs like GHII on Xbox Live.

Keyword there being can. It's not like they're forcing you to download anything. You pay once for the game and get a games worth of songs. if you want more, you can choose to buy more.

Seriously, I hate microtransactions as much as the next guy (actually I'd be willing to bet I hate them a LOT more than the next guy in most cases) but I don't see how you can complain about having a new album to have the option to buy every week. Lord knows I've gotten pretty tired of the offerings with GH3 pretty quickly.

I guess the thing that bothers me is that they will already have planned releases the WEEK after the game comes out...

come on! put that in the game! why nickle and dime us to death?

And I really hate when a purchase is REQUIRED to use it online (additional multiplayer modes that are not free, additional maps that are required to play, etc)

They make plenty of money off of us anyway, can they really not just care about the customer for once?

*sigh*

because the songs would be free to put in the game otherwise, right?

Now you're just whining. Provided they match or exceed the number of default songs on GHII (and I hope/expect they will), the value they provide to the customer is fine. In addition they're ditching the song packs for single song transactions, which, if reasonably priced, is another plus.

In other words, Rock Band is kicking GH3's ass out of the gate.

After watching that video, I'm convinced that the microphone/singing in the game is gonna make it a lot worse than if they just had the instruments.

Also, was the player in the middle bass? If so what were those orange lines that were going across in addition to the regular notes?

That'd be the drums. The lines were for the bass drum.

Given that both games are obtaining master recordings, I see some kind of "arms race" developing between Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Rock Band already snagged Metallica (previously thought to be unattainable), so now GHIII needs to one-up that. If/When one finally gets Led Zeppelin, that'll be a huge announcement.

if it weren't so expensive i'd get it just for the drums, that would be a big challenge there

just trying to play air drums where each hand and a foot is a dedicated different sound gets confusing but it's a blast

Sabotage and Reptilia are in both, too.

It looks like Harmonix was already had some songs done when the franchise was taken away, so the franchise kept the GH versions and Harmonix expanded their work into RB.

as far as fun factor and song list goes, not to mention factoring in the price, GH3 seems to look better and better

people have been saying the guitar isn't as fun in Rock Band, because it's trying to do too much, like the "jack of all trades master of none" syndrome

As someone who can actually play guitar but not drums, I'm much more excited about RB due to the drum kit.

but you can't buy a decent instrument for that

so three good fake ones and a game is pretty swanky

Ever since they announced the 360 guitar won't be wireless, I've been thinking I'm just gonna buy the game and the drum set only. That should save like $80-$100 or so. I really don't care about the singing aspect of the game.

i dont get that argument, i don't buy a game to simulate playing a guitar, i buy it cause I'm addicted to rhythm games. frequency/amplitude never left my ps2 back in the day

plus i dont know which one of my friends would actually wanna sing

Seconded. Also the drum kit is much more realistic to actual drumming because it's basically the same layout and you could actually get started on learning the drum set by playing rock band. That most definitely can't be said for the guitar portion, it is just a cool rhythm game.

and

That is going to be one hell of an intro for whoever is playing the guitar. (nonstop very fast strumming, which is one of my weaker areas in gh)

^^ On the real song, it's only like three seconds of actual picking and then he hits the looper...it'd be cool (if kinda lame) if that happened in RB.

A lot of these songs, like 'Say it Ain't So' and some others, I wouldn't mind playing on any part, including vocals. If they can pull this off it could be pretty awesome...

It got dated and priced today. November 23 for 360 and PS3 versions. $180. December 10th for PS2. $160. 360 gets a wired guitar as previously announced.

OH SNAP

I was expecting to have to buy a PS3 or 360 to play this and that was putting me off, but if there's a PS2 release then it's on. I'll get the whole package, too, since the whammy on my original GH1 guitar snapped off six months ago (damn pot metal).
