I'll assume the superbowl year (a monumental overachievement for the record) is the year you're referring to.

so, taking a 1-15 team to 7-9 (the biggest win increase by a rookie head coach in the history of the nfl) is an under achievement

how about taking a team that had over a dozen players on IR (and resorted to a 5th string RB for half the year) to within 1 game of the playoffs? not to mention it was coming off a 1-7 start.

Hell, even 2 years ago, winning 2 playoff games on the road to get to the NFC championship with basically 1 offensive weapon.

If that's underachieving, I'll take it all day long.

I hope not....if delhomme is in there till the end, it probably means we're doing pretty well.

roethlisberger is the best QB ever...I mean their Superbowl season he passed the ball 12 times a game...clearly the team leader...Bettis and Parker had nothing to do with their title

The only year Fox had a decent run game we went to the Superbowl and barely lost

where did i give all the credit to roethlisberger for their title??

he had a horrible game in the super bowl. don't forget the other games he had in the playoffs though, namely against denver and cincy. the steelers didn't need an amazing qb, they just needed someone that wouldnt lose several games for them on his own like kordell stewart, neil o'donnell, tommy maddox, roethlisberger this past season, etc.

i think roethlisberger clearly deserved to be on that list last season, and he was a huge factor in why they lost so many games, but given his offseason and what that entailed i can let that go if he bounces back this season. if continues to improve on the progress of his first 2 years, or at least gets back to that 2nd year level this season then i absolutely believe roethlisberger is a better qb than delhomme.

you should consider that maybe it's not that i have a biased high opinion of roethlisberger, but that you have one of delhomme. i certainly don't think roethlisberger is the best qb in the nfl by any means. he isn't even the best qb of his draft, as that honor belongs to our own philip rivers. compared to eli though, i think ben stacks up favorably. i like ben's composure.

and you're right in thinking that if delhomme is still in there that it means the panthers have probably been doing well, but i think carr is the better qb. if delhomme shows early signs of some of the retarded decisions he's been making, i'd be quick to put carr in the mix rather than wait until the team was out of playoff contention. (besides, it would probably take 9 weeks or so to make that determination in the NFC).

and as for fox, i thought he seemed like a good coach in his first couple years with the team, but i haven't been impressed with what i've seen since. if i were a panther fan and the season got off to a rough start, i'd have a hard time not hoping that they just finished it off with more losses so fox got the axe and the team could go after cowher. not that cowher would definitely take the job, but it's the closest team to home for him and he would dominate the NFC. while i'll shy away from guaranteeing multiple super bowl victories simply because they'd still have to knock off a top AFC team in the super bowl, i definitely believe cowher could get the panthers there often. at the very least they'd be a near lock to win the division annually and head into the postseason with a bye frequently.

that said, im certainly hoping for the panthers to be awful this season so there is a chance cowher will go there. i just don't want him to go to a place like cleveland where he will be impossible to pull for. not only that, if he went to the browns then the steelers wouldn't even be guaranteed to be in the top 3 in the division every year. panthers/redskins or any NFC team not located in dallas would be alright i think.

I FUCKING HATE THE STEELERS AND ESPECIALLY THEIR FANS

IF COWHER CAME TO CLEVELAND THAT WOULD PROBABLY MAKE ME THE HAPPIEST MAN ON THE PLANET JUST BECAUSE OF HOW MANY STEELERS FANS WOULD BE CRYING LIKE LITTLE GIRLS

he'd be a good fit for the browns, if for nothing more than he looks like their mascot.

im a steelers fan, not a panthers fan. i really dont care about the panthers, although it's nice to see them do well. i definitely pulled for them to beat new england in the super bowl. but no, i'm not a panthers fan. and yeah as a lifelong steelers fan i am very much a fan of cowher, and i don't want to see him go anywhere that would change that, like cleveland. i respect the panthers and would probably pull for them on the side if cowher went there, much like i pull for the chargers now that rivers is playing.
