Nope, you're not supposed to wear white because it upstages the bride. She's the only one that's supposed to be in white, unless there is specifically an all-white wedding party, which happens a lot in huge southern weddings

in this situation there were 2 bridesmaids, both sisters of the bride and one wore white. the bride did NOT wear white. the groomsmen, 3, weren't even wearing tuxes. all their own suits, dark, with a summer tie. it was not terrible by any stretch of the traditional, "don't wear white to a wedding" situation.

but yes, normal weddings you don't wear white. however, in this situation (which i thought was pretty clear on how casual it was by saying the bridesmaids wore their own dress, and the groomsmen not matching in my initial post) it was appropriate. but that's me assuming...ass of u and me.

I think you should keep them all the same color, but make the maid of honor a different shade of that color...if that makes sense

That way she stands out, but not more than the bride!!!

i decided that everyone would wear the same color, and that they'd pick their own dress, so each dress will be different.

i will have to come up with something to distinguish my maid of honor from my bride's maids though.

she'll be standing right beside you; that should be distinguished enough.

At our wedding I had four bridesmaids that all looked very different and had different body shapes and what not, and I really cared if they all looked decent in it so I picked a the dress below and I think it all fit them nicely. They all seemed pleased though, and I let them do their hair however they wanted it (sorry this picture really isn't the best and not the truest to the colors, but it's the only one that I could find on my computer right now). The girl in the periwinkle dress was my flower girl. I would definitely let them wear their hair how they want to though. I know of a lot of weddings where everything got way too "matchy-matchy" and I think it makes it look not nearly as well put together. Also if the dress doesn't look quite as nice on everyone, their hair can be a nice way for them to still look like themselves and feel like they look nicer in their dresses.

I saw a wedding where the bridesmaids were dressed in the way that you mentioned (all wearing the same color but in different cuts), and I think it was really pretty that way. They all looked comfortable and were pretty too without stealing anything from the bride. Congratulations on getting married, and I know everything will end up pretty!

youre such a sweetheart

i think we'll give the maid of honor a dif type of bouquet. my flowers are going to be white and purple tulips, so perhaps she'll get an all purple or an all white bouquet, so help her stand out a little.

i have 10 months to decide though

i think something that would look really nice is to have both colors on the dress, just inverted for the MOH. If possible. Like the bow or something. But that would really look best with two similar shades of the same color.

But please, ladies, be nice to your big tittied bridesmaids. Nothing is worse than being asked to be in a wedding only to end up looking like a sausage.

Also, there was a bridesmaid store downtown by that Krispy Kreme that I remember was excellent.

honestly, i think just one color is a bit boring, for the overall wedding scheme. If you want something like violet, I'd pair it with a silver/grey. Pale or even something dark like charcoal grey. But if I ever do get married, I would do something similar to what David's Bridal offers; different dresses, whatever each bridesmaid feels complements them, in the same color.

I second taking care of the large busted bridesmaids.

Keep in mind alterations for the busty bridesmaids. Most dresses are made for a C cup and your bridesmaids will have to order a bigger size to get the bust to fit. I had to spend $$$ to get a waist taken in to a size six.

The dress in the picture above (but in red) was what we wore to my sister's wedding.

^^ don't feel bad, I was the same way at mine.

Also I'd make sure that your bridesmaids are comfortable. I myself wouldn't have been comfortable in a spaghetti strap, but all of my bridesmaids preferred them. I've been a bridesmaid in weddings before where I was so uncomfy that I really didn't have as good a time as I could have.
