IF no laws were broken, I don't see what the problem is.
Maybe it is for money (from her side), maybe it is just infatuation (from both sides), or maybe they really love each other and are not fixated on looks and glamour?
Is that so hard to believe? Is that impossible?
Anyway do you think they bumped the uglies before they got married? Most probably yes... but also the story made it sound as if it would have been pretty hard for them to do stuff out of school.
The only potential problem I see with this is if she drops out of school. If she continues her education, and then gets some form of higher education (not necessarily college) to make her an independent woman, MOAR power to them. 6/20/2007 9:56:49 PM |

Quote : | " After more than a year of battling their teenage daughter, the Hagers finally broke down.
Betty and Dennis "Bubba" Hager tried everything in their power to keep Windy away from Brenton Wuchae, her 40-year-old South Brunswick High School cross country coach.
They exhausted their resources, the Hagers said. They reached out to school officials, law enforcement, teachers and students. They asked Wuchae to leave their daughter alone. They tried to get a restraining order against him.
Nothing could stop the unlikely couple from being together.
Windy asked her parents to sign marriage consent papers. On Monday, their 16-year-old daughter married Wuchae, a man 24 years her senior.
The Hagers' trials aren't exactly unique. Relationship and parenting experts note the difficulty that parents face as their children reach teenage years and the troubles associated with starting a serious relationship at such a young age.
"The thing about teenagers is that they do have free will. You cannot control every action; the more you try, the more they push back," said Carolyn Moore, parenting education coordinator at the Parenting Place of the Exchange Clubs. "Oftentimes, even parents that have made all the right decisions have children that make poor choices."
Usually when parents try to keep their child from someone, the more attractive that person becomes, Moore said. Since teenagers can't be controlled, parents must use influence to help guide them. Building strong relationships with children from the time they are little is the best preventive method, she said, but there are no guarantees.
Betty said Windy was a great kid, a talented athlete and an honor student. Including 14-year-old Will, they were a close family, she said. Then Wuchae came along.
When he realized the extent of the infatuation, Bubba spoke to Wuchae, who told him there was nothing to be concerned about, that he just wanted Windy to be a better athlete. A few months and a couple hundred text messages later, the Hagers wouldn't let Windy spend time with "Coach," as she calls him, unless it was related to cross country events.
The parents turned to the school and law enforcement officials, who didn't have sufficient evidence to warrant charges.
"There was no proof of anything unlawful on his part or her part," said Oak Island Police Major Greg Jordan. "Inappropriate and unlawful are two different things."
A tough road lies ahead for Windy, said Clancy Thompson, executive director of the Child Advocacy Commission of the Lower Cape Fear Inc.
Teenagers' brains are still developing, he said. She doesn't have a lot of life experience to base her decisions on. As teens move into adulthood, the executive function - the ability to make wise and thoughtful decisions - develops, Thompson said.
But it's not until the mid 20s that the shift from emotional thinking to rational thinking occurs, the Parenting Place's Moore said.
At age 16, a teenager's personal and sexual identity are still forming; it's not a completed process, according to George Slaton, pastoral psychotherapist and director of the Presbyterian Counseling Center. Plus with the relationship involving an authority figure, there's reason to worry about manipulation, Slaton said, though that's not always the case. Sometimes people develop an authentic, genuine love for each other, he said, but questioning the relationship is only natural.
Indeed, Betty and Bubba worry for their daughter's future, but they admit they ran out of energy to fight: constantly trying to keep Windy from calling Wuchae, watching her at night as she left work to make sure she came directly home and arguing every time she wanted to ride with "Coach" to Wal-Mart or get something to eat with him.
Betty said she told her daughter more than once, if she loved Wuchae, then she needed to get the marriage papers together, and they would sign them.
"She would fly into a rage," Betty said. In a perfected tantrum, Windy claimed they were just friends, Betty said.
Windy filed for emancipation in March, then dropped the action after her parents' lawyer contended that they weren't bad parents, Betty said.
On Saturday, Windy asked her dad to sign emancipation papers. He refused. Then she asked him to sign a paper Wuchae had drawn up and had notarized, giving Windy permission to marry him. He refused.
But Monday came, and the Hagers met the now-Wuchaes at the courthouse and signed off on the pair's marriage certificate.
"He had all the power in the world - all he had to do was say, 'I can't do this,'" Betty said. " |

WTH? The mother told her daughter to get married if she wanted to continue seeing him, and then they signed "reluctantly"?
Also, it says she would go to walmart with him and go out to eat too. I thought it was against school policy for student-teacher socialization?

Quote : | " WILMINGTON, N.C. — There was no credible evidence of a romantic relationship between a 40-year-old high school science teacher and a 16-year-old student until the couple married, Brunswick County school officials say.
Brenton Wuchae was a cross country coach who mentored Windy Hager at South Brunswick High School. He resigned in mid-June, the same day he married Hager.
The Brunswick County Board of Education released a detailed account of the school's involvement Tuesday, saying school administrators closely monitored and limited the couple's relationship but never found evidence of any romance.
In November, South Brunswick High School Principal Vann Pennell directed Wuchae to cease all contact with Hager, noting that a lengthy list of phone calls and text messages with the student "did raise questions of poor judgment."
The school suspended Wuchae in May after finding that he had communicated with Hager at school. Both he and the teenager continued to deny a romantic relationship, the school board said.
Brian Shaw, an attorney representing the school district, said Pennell also told Wuchae to resign or be fired. Wuchae resigned and married Hager, who had recently finished her sophomore year as one of the school's top runners.
"Prior to the surprise marriage, there simply was no credible evidence of a romantic relationship between the teacher and student," Katie McGee, the district's superintendent, said in a statement.
Hager's parents had approached both the school and authorities in hopes of ending the relationship. The Hagers have said they reluctantly signed a consent form allowing their daughter to marry her coach.
The school system hired Wuchae as a teacher and coach in 2004. The district said it conducted a background check before hiring Wuchae and found no problems.

Quote : | "WILMINGTON, N.C. — The parents of a 16-year-old girl who recently married a 40-year-old former high school coach have filed a lawsuit against the Brunswick County Board of Education, saying school officials failed to protect their daughter.
In the lawsuit filed Tuesday, Dennis and Betty Hager of Oak Island are seeking at least $20,000 from the school district for allegedly failing to discipline former teacher Brenton Wuchae and causing the family emotional pain and suffering. The science teacher and cross country coach mentored Windy Hager at South Brunswick High School and resigned June 18, the same day the couple married.
The Brunswick County Board of Education last week released a detailed account of the school's involvement in the case, saying school administrators closely monitored and limited the couple's relationship but never found evidence of any romance.
But the Hagers contend they approached school officials with concerns over the relationship and that school officials failed to investigate the matter appropriately. The Hagers have said they reluctantly signed a consent form allowing their daughter to marry her coach.
Superintendent Katie McGee said Tuesday that officials will "defend ourselves vigorously."
"I can say without reservation that knowing all the details of this matter, no reasonable person would expect any better performance by the Board of Education or the administration," McGee said in a statement.
Board of Education Chairman Scott Milligan said the lawsuit is "completely without merit."" |

So they just up and decided to get married then? Without even knowing each other? If they meant sexual relations then they should have just said sexual relations. I don't think there are many marriages that have taken place with "no credible evidence of a romantic relationship." In other words the evidence of a romantic relationship is the marriage itself.
