Garnett plays at a different size than Nowitzki..... check their rebound/block disparity...
and heres more to back me up Quote : | "First of all, Durant isn't a small forward, just like Bird wasn't a small forward -- he's a forward who can play either position, and with the way the NBA is going, he's definitely going to play at the 4 when his body fills out. Hell, he protects the rim well enough and rebounds well enough that you could even play him at the 5." |
Everyone knows Durant is the far superior player. The only argument for Oden is that maybe it would be easier to find a quality scorer to pair him with than to find a quality big man to pair Durant with. That's probably true. But Durant is substantially better than Oden and I'd take the guy who will give your team infinite commercial appeal rather than the one who makes you better in the regular season but may or may not have multi-Championship potential.6/27/2007 6:13:47 PM |

based on the fact that your first post is a summary of Bill Simmons, posting another quote by Simmons doesnt count as "more to back me up" 6/27/2007 6:24:45 PM |

That quote was from today and I was saying Durant could play center a few days ago.
How can anyone argue that Al Harrington and Boris Diaw can play center but Kevin Durant eventually can't?
I'm not saying he's gonna start at center but you're crazy if you think he couldnt be the biggest player on the court on a team that decided to play smallball.
I don't summarize Bill Simmons often. We happen to agree more often than not because we're likeminded people. By likeminded I mean we actually WATCH sports instead of just reading statlines and deciding one player is better than another because he averages more points.
I do quote him sometimes because he's obviously well known and well respected and he gives some pretty logical, well supported arguments.
This thread definitely was created after I read the article on it but mainly because i wanted to see what other people thought. I just dont see how you pass up a potential superstar for a center that may or may not be championship material if surrounded by a solid cast. 6/27/2007 6:49:34 PM |

Seriously I called this 2 years ago, right after they put the age-limit in place.
And so did everybody else. 6/28/2007 12:16:37 PM |

yeah it was pretty much the consensus that if they didnt have the age limit that Oden wouldve been the undisputed 1st pick last year 6/28/2007 12:18:31 PM |

Quote : | "Portland Trail Blazers rookie center Greg Oden will undergo exploratory arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday, announced team general manager Kevin Pritchard.
Oden, the top pick in the June NBA Draft after just one season at Ohio State, has experienced pain in his right knee, and will have the area scoped by team physician Dr. Don Roberts at Southwestern Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington.
Since being drafted, Oden has played in just two Las Vegas summer league games, and had a tonsillectomy in July. An MRI taken last week showed that the 7-foot, 257-pound center may have some cartilage problems in the knee.
Following the surgery, a timetable for return will be set for Oden, who averaged 15.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots per game as a freshman for the national runner-up Buckeyes.

Out for the entire year. Maybe they will get a Top 3 pick again and be nasty in a few years?

Read an article on Yahoo Sports last night where some of the scouts who looked over Oden's physicals before the draft basically said he is a 20 year old in a 40 year old body. He already has problems with his knees, back, fingers, wrists among others...
Apparently the Blazers believed he was worth the risk (and he may still be), but the Sonics are probably saying a few prayers of thanks that they got Durant. 9/14/2007 10:53:26 AM |

There are other ones,
http://insidehoops.com/nba-mock-draft.shtml http://www.hoopsvibe.com/nba/nba-draft/2008-nba-mock-draft-ar41659.html http://www.draftexpress.com/mymock.php?page=official ^ And that one is the only one that has Costner (going 25th), none of them have Hickson. That one also had Grant going 25th in the 2nd round.
I don't think Hickson will be gone after his freshman year. How many 1 and dones are there every year? 5 or 6? 9/14/2007 11:18:15 AM |

I found this while reading Costner's profile on DraftExpress
Quote : | "In the post, Costner is blessed with an outstanding frame and has excellent footwork and a great understanding of how to use fakes and pivot moves to get his man in the air. His touch is excellent once again here, and if faced with a double team, shows terrific court vision (like all of NC State’s players) to find the open man spotting up or cutting to the rim." |

What a fucking joke picking Oden over this guy. Jesus christ he is nailing step back jumpers ALREADY.
This guy is the second fucking coming of God.
Durant is about three years away from being one of the elite players in the league and they passed up a guaranteed superstar for a project center with a host of injuries. Jesus christ.

^ Idiot talk show host.
He's knocking Durant compared to Oden because of durability questions? Perhaps he forgot which one sat out the first half of his college career with a wrist injury and then is missing his first season in the NBA because of a knee injury (although the knee injury had obviously not come to the surface at the time of the show).
If you listened to that host you would believe Durant shouldn't of been picked at all. 11/2/2007 2:06:03 PM |

Durant looked awesome last night. The only thing holding him back is the fact that he is made of paper. The guy has elite level guard skills while being 6'9" and long as hell. Someone just needs to feed him. 11/2/2007 2:11:45 PM |
