i never had that much of a liking to just "cruising" around in a boat, especially on the ocean.

i like some action.

here in raleigh they want some $$ for it. there is one in my neighborhood.. i dont remember the price, but its no motor or trailer, maybe for like $500-600.

you can find 14' with trailer, outboard and trolling motor with seats for like $1500 in the boat trader

Looking for one with no trailer, no bigger than 10 ft. No main motor, Possibly a trolling motor but not required. Just something to throw in the back of my truck and pond fish with. Not even planning on registering it.

Have you seen that little 13' Boston Whaler on Craigslist for $1900. Tyte little boat. I dropped a BW on highway 64 one time. Winched that fucker back on the trailer and kept on getting it. They're tough boats.

Put in the water yesterday and didnt leak a drop! I did shear the pin in the trolling motor though $1.95 @ Dicks and Im back in business. Gonna go again today. Loading in and out of the truck is not as bad as I thought it would be.Probally the most fun I have had for 3 bills in a long time.

Yeah no problems loading or unloading by myself. Much better with two people though. It alot better now that the pond I like to fish is up 2 feet so I can launch it on the grass instead of the mud. Friday before the rain I had to pull it out of the water onto the grass with the truck because of the mud. Anything bigger would not be possible by myself. I think I am going to sell the trailer. If you find one without a trailer holla Ill give you dibs

a 10 footer is a big too small, i would say a 14 footer. but i wanna check out a 12 footer to see if that may do.

i checked out a 2002 center console. looked ragged out, thought it was more than 5 years old. lady wanted $7000. came with trailer. a decent price. but man i thought it was gonna be cheaper.

If you go anything smaller, you are probably going kick yourself. Once you pile fishing gear, coolers, dogs, whores, etc in there, even a 16 footer is going to seem waaaaaay too small.

well i meant big as in one person to throw it in.

we have a house on the sound with a launch. most likely i might get something without a trailer so i can just drag it in and out of the water, and lock it up on a post.

a 16 footer may require 2 or 3 people. but i dont know, ive never actually picked one up to see how heavy/big it is.

Any chance you could build skids/ramp that slant down to the water??? You could hand winch it up the skids and out of the water, and just slide it back when you want to use it.

You could muscle a 16' jon boat around, but the 70 hp motor sitting on the ass of it is a different story.

well the launch is there, and i think we have a post in front of it where the old owners had a winch on to pull it in and out.

i may rethink that ideal...

ive also been debating motor sizes.

some say get a trolling motor with good thrust. others say just get a normal outboard horsepower motor.

both would be nice.

you wouldn't catch my ass out in the sound with just a trolling motor, and i've been known to do some pretty dangerous stuff in a boat. imo, a motor is just as important for maneuvering a boat through any chop, wakes, etc. as it is for a decent cruising speed. you need some powR for that.

i'd say maybe if you were just hanging right around your general dock area it might be okay, but even if you don't think you do now once you get the boat you'll want to go further. i guess you could always add a motor later if you wanted, but usually package deals are cheaper. outboards aren't cheap by themselves, even old used ones.

as for storing it, i know they make these neat drive up/winch up type floating docks for wave runners. i would imagine they probably make them for smaller boats too. just make sure if you're beaching it, it's far enough up or you have it tied/locked off with enough slack for any drastic tide changes (storms, lunar spring, etc.)

well if its light enough, i could just bring it up on the actualy dock (with 2 people) and chain it up.

or drag it out of the water and chain it to the house (posts).

yeah, i like the 15 footer mainly because of the steering wheel.

but that 12 footer looks like it is decked out with some good stuff. and i see quite a few people flounder fishing around our area, so that would be cool too.

meh....put it on a trailer. too much like work totin that bitch. i'm probably gonna be switching out the steel trailer under mine for a galvanized one and i'd sell it to you on the cheap. shorten the tongue to fit anything from 10-18'.

i think 14' would be my absolute minimum for fishing the sound. i fish the brackish creeks/rivers (Bath, Bayboro, Aurora, etc.) and sound marshes if it's calm with my 16' and i don't think i'd wanna go much smaller. i agree with BBR on the outboard thing. definitely want enough motor to pick that front end up if the wind moves in on you quick.

just my opinion, hope it helps you out.

btw, if you like trout/flounder/puppy drum fishing you could go with me and see how you like a 16'. i'm always looking someone to ride along and split the gas bill.

definitely stick with aluminum. it sounds like this is something you're going to be in shallow water with and beaching a lot and generally banging/dragging around. you don't want to be repairing the gel coat or cracks in the hull every season. you can beat the hell out of an aluminum boat and at the worst it'll dent. you have to hit something pretty hard and sharp to put a hole in one.

as for a trailer or not, i would definitely get one even if you pay a little more. if for nothing else, it's good to have for resale. you've always got it just in case you need to take it off the water, want to take it on a trip, etc. dragging even smaller boats around is a pain in the ass. my dad and i would take ours off the trailer and put it on the truck to get to more remote areas. it sucked. we tried pulling it on the trailer a couple of times, but it just turned into a sled on the trails we went on. galvanized is a plus for salt water, but not really a big deal unless you're putting it in and out of the water a lot.

your civic should be fine towing one. even the larger ones aren't going to be much if any over 2k lbs. motor and trailer included.

i think i agree that i should stick with a 14 or 16 foot boat.

man that Charleston deal sounds good. ill have to talk to my uncle to see how soon he wants to make a deal.
