There is no constitutional issue here, as Congress has always had the authority to oversee and influence the operations of the military (or any other department in the executive branch) through its power of the purse and power to hold hearings. Unless President Bush figures out a way to run the war without appropriations, he will have to answer to Congress.

and hey, I'm OK if congress says "hey, we are cutting off funding after X date." But, to my knowledge, that's not what they are doing. They are saying "Dubya, you will remove troops by X date," and that is going too far. It's just that Congress doesn't have the balls to say "No more money, dubya." 7/24/2007 7:20:47 PM |
