I saw all three seasons of AD at Target for 20$ a piece now. A fantastic investment.

shows like this are better because they were cancelled

it's just like Nirvana or Sublime

if they weren't forced to stop then their stuff wouldn't be trapped in a bubble and praised the way it is

i disagree on one part and agree on the other. if youre trying to say people liked them/idolized them mainly because they were cut short then no i disagree.

i for one think that both of those bands would have just gotten better.

its hard to say with TV shows. but while AD was on it was still one of the best tv shows i have ever seen, and all that before it was apparent it wasnt going to be around long, ie that didnt play a factor.

I only saw a few of the episodes when they came on, but it wasn't until I saw 3 or 4 episodes back to back that I really got into it. I think that had a lot to do with the lack of an interested audience.

The running gags are what makes it and if you don't get them it's a lot less funny.

awesome, thanks for posting that. i have them all downloaded off torrents and have been trying to get a decent quality dvd burned of them but haven't had any luck. can't seem to find a program that makes it easy to just drag some xvid files in and burn the thing. dvdsanta burned it but it looks like shit and the audio/video aren't in sync.

$15 per season is a lot better than the $30+ it usually is though so i'll prolly just go buy them all. hell that's better than amazon prices it looks like.

which episode was this from again? I remember it may have had to do with a reaction from George Micheal about Maeby...

It's definitely in the pilot, but that's not the only one.

The song is "Gonna Get Together" by Leroy.

Although I will agree the third season is probably the weakest, partially I would blame it on them trying to cram so much in. And in S3's defense it does contain my personal favorite single episode: Mr. F. It's a great ep solely for the payoff at the end with Tobias as a "Mole" in tiny town. Also it has the funniest four characters at their best: GOB, Buster, Tobias, and George Michael.

yea i mean part of it i think had to do with having to FORCE the show to sort of end. its like tolkien having his whole idea for the hobbit and LOTR trilogy and then telling him after the hobbit he has to wrap the rest of the story up in one book the size of the fellowship.

i forget tho how the timeline went down as far as writing the shows and knowing they were going off the air, so i could be wrong. still a funny season

They pretty much knew they weren't getting the back nine when the third season started, but that wasn't the case with season two, which is why this happened in The Sword of Destiny:

Narrator: Michael Bluth had just been stunned to discover that a contract his company was counting on was being cut back.

Michael: (on phone) You initially told us to design and build 22 homes. Now you’re saying 18. That’s doesn’t give us enough capital to complete the job. And we’ve already got the blueprints drawn up and everything.

Narrator: Well, that part wasn’t true. But they would have...

I rewatched all 3 seasons in the past month and I was struck with how recent they were. Or…. how they dealt with subjects that in my own mind were very recent, while it feels like the show was on the air before those events.

That is - it feels strange that the entire series aired while we've been at war with Iraq, and so much of the series had things that were happening in the US or Iraq in the past couple years. For example, it doesn't seem like that long ago when we pulled Saddam Hussein out of the foxhole in Iraq. But they made several references to it in "Good Grief", which aired in December 2004, when they pulled George Sr. out of the foxhole, then Michael did the examination on him. That episode aired a full year after they did the same to Saddam. Then in my mind, Katrina didn't happen too long ago (almost 2 years now), but GOB's black puppet Franklin wore a "George Bush does not care about black puppets" t-shirt in episodes in early 2006. It feels like it was much longer ago than early 2006 that those episodes aired.

so possibility that with the huge following and dvd sales...bring series back?

they always seem to cancel the good ones anyway for some reason

^ Absolutely not. It's way too expensive. The whole reason they didn't go to Showtime is because they would've had to either cut out the location shoots or trim the cast.

thanks thats what i thought. which confirms my theory in that, if the 3rd season was any less good to anyone it was because they were forced to end a show prematurely which always sucks for creative process

Read this DVDTalk thread if youd be interested in the entire series for $15 plus tax.

I used the mentioned coupon at the Best Buy in Cary a few weeks ago to get The Simpsons S9, 24 S5, and all of Angel with no problems at all. Things may be different now, but its worth a shot. Makes me wish I didnt have the series already.
