megastrike is overpowered versus the computer, but in online play it seems like you only scored 1 or so goal even getting 6 shots off against most people..i wasnt as good seeing as this was only the 2nd time ive ever played the wii, but the kid i was playing with stopped all but like 2 in our 7 online games. next time our team plays im just going to swap wiimotes with him for those

overall tho the game is great for multiplayer, its another great party game (thinking mini tournaments here) and the online function just makes it 10x better.

It SUCKS when you get lag during a megastrike though and you are defending. That happened to a guy I was lucky enough to play on my first game online and I got four in. He still destroyed me though.

the thing about megastrikes is that people are going to learn to block all of them and the only way to score is going to be off of great ball movement or using your sidekick abilities.

After playing online for a while now I have figured out that regardless of my pretty low rank (~5000) I am consistently matched against people who are ranked 500+. I have played about 10 games today and the one closest to my rank was 2000. If I do manage to play someone of lower rank than me they seem to win anyway. My shots always seem to get reflected but theirs usually go in the first time... I guess I'm missing something here. Aside from the ball.

Oh wow. I just played an online game on the Crystal Canyon one. I was unaware that TWO OF YOUR TEAMMATES DIE IN THIS LEVEL IMMEDIATELY. If you haven't played on this level yet, right at the beggining, sun rays come in and kill two of your teammates. It actually helped me out a lot because I was playing against Luigi and the Mole as Daisy and Dry Bones. Obviously Daisy and Dry Bones are A LOT faster than Luigi and the Mole, I was able to get the ball away from them really easily.

i'm sorta the same way. i havent gotten the hang of scoring yet. the 2nd match i played, the guy was far better than me, rank and record wise. i figured i'd get crushed. the first two games went to sudden death, with him winning one 1-0, and me winning the other 1-0. the third he won 1-0, but not in sudden death. couldnt ask for a much closer match than that. still have yet to get that elusive series win though.

So how do you guys manage to defend when they start passing like crazy? Tons of times they just start passing between players really quickly ultimately resulting in a fully charged shot. Whenever I try to do speed passing like that they always are able to get the ball away from me. ALWAYS.

You have to intercept the passing lanes. Unless they are lobbing it, in which case you would take out the recipient of the pass. In theory, this works. In practice, I couldn't tell you - I'm pretty bad too.

Yeah I figured as much but it seems that either A) My guys are never between them or B) Someone on my team will be between them but if I try and switch to that player it always switches to someone I don't want. The ball goes by them, and by the time I get to them the ball is elsewhere. While I am trying to catch up they just shoot.

So I finally won some series games online today. Every one of them the people disconnected after I beat them the second time though. Seems to be lots of sore losers . I found DK to be a lot more successful as a team captain. I was playing as Daisy/Waluigi before just because they were soooo fast. I could never get a goal with them though because their shooting skill was just too poor. DK has a really good deke though and his special is perfect for setting up a megastrike. I'm still debating between using birdo or hammer bros. as my offensive striker though, anyone have any tips? It seems that birdo takes slightly longer to charge up his/her strike but obviously has better range.

then again this is in easy single player...

fuck this game, the crystal cup is so goddamn frustrating.

I breeze through the 10 games usually with a record of 8-1-1 or something.

in the past i've always lost one of the next two games, but this time i made it to diddy.

i won the first game, he won the second, and he won the third.

it's so damn annoying, the lazer beams will take my fast guys out, so diddy gets to go against my bowser and hammer bro guy, and he can run circles around me. FUCK.

i think i'm done with that shit, i've gone through the 10 games probably 4 times just to lose each time.

Yeah it sucks that you can't change your team at all during the single player. I started it the first day I got it using Yoshi, Hammer Bros., Koopa Trooper, and Toad. Sucks yo.

I think I'm sticking with Hammer Bros. over Birdo, Hammer Bros. are WAAAY better at passing so essentially they can be a slow playmaker. Toad is really fun to deke over the goalie with too.

^I agree with your earlier post that DK is the best captain.... I have gotten to the crystal cup finals with Yoshi, Luigi, Bowser, and DK though I still cant get past Diddy in that 3rd game....

I've gone 10-0-0 with DK two times (won the wall and the golden foot both times) to the C.C. finals only to be beaten by Diddy both times. I think they made it a little too tough considering how easy it is (though time consuming) to get there....

DK + 2 drybones + monty mole is the best I've played with thus far. The drybones is fast as hell, steals like crazy, and can score in multiple ways. Monty owns the defensive ends and can actually shoot the ball. DK's special is easiest to turn into a MegaStrike.... but still cant beat Diddy in C.C. finals....

See every time I go to start single player I somehow get wrapped up playing online. I've barely made it through to play Diddy. I did just really piss some dude off though, he was playing as Diddy and used his special to take out everyone on my team except Toad. Toad definitely holds his own if you can time his deke right though. Toad was on defense so he made it all the way through midfield, deked three of his guys, then deked right over the goalie and just ran into the net. I was so amazed I pulled it off.

^when you play diddy he is on "legend" difficulty instead of "professional". In the two playoff games before him, you can also tell they jack up the level of "crazy shit" that works against you....

I don't know how anyone can beat the striker cup. I thought I was big shit for beating the C.C., but that Striker Cup is rediculous! I think that they planned it so that the single player wouldnt be a cinch, hoping that you would go online to get better and then come back to beat the single player once you see the tricks others are using online. If you can beat the striker cup, then you are in the top 200 online... Can't way that about many online-capable games at all.... usually the toughest competition is online and the single player is barely more than a tutorial.... I guess this is one of those games that only a few ppl will ever be able to pwn consistently: kinda like real soccer, huh?

yeah, I can agree with most of that

it seems like it's a little rushed though. I have no problem with the game getting that hard or harder at the end, but it goes from being a cakewalk to being almost impossible.

I think they should have had 4 cups instead of 3 with a gradually increasing difficulty, and for the love of mike let people change their captains/teams when they have to restart a certain cup

^Yeah I started out as Waluigi. I really liked his speed but I just could never get the ball in with him unless it was a megastrike. His shooting ability is just too poor for me. I started trying to do the "box yourself in with the wall and megastrike" idea, but for some reason every time I "activated" the wall, it would only come on for a second then cut off and by that time I was tackled. I've found it pretty easy to defend against megastrikes though.

it seems that they're only available in domination mode. I'm pretty sure if I could use safe mega strikes (since the computer sucks so bad at them) that I could win the striker cup without too much hassle

one of 'em does say you can use cheats in the road to the cup, but never says how. I personally think that you can only use 'em in domination, but I haven't look all that hard, so I could be wrong.
