^^Again, Odell violated the drug policy, like Hamilton, and was suspended for 4 games. He was then charged with a DUI, which has now extended his suspension by 28 games. Meanwhile Jared Allen has 2 DUIs and is suspended 2 games total.
Don't confuse Odell with Pacman or Vick, or even Chris Henry, since Chris had gun charges.
^His only law-breaking was the DUI, he was not arrested on drug charges.
If you want to be outraged about Allen's 2 game suspension being too soft instead of Odell's 28 game suspension being too harsh, that's fine, but I really hope no one is ok with the double standard. 7/30/2007 10:57:00 AM |

I am not saying it was fair I am saying they all need to be punished equally. The commisioner should punish everyone equally. I think they should have a clause in their contract that says if you get into trouble with the law some amount of money goes to charity. These players get millions of dollars to play a GAME I don't think they realize that. If you get bonuses for playing good then you should have deduction's for getting in trouble with the law. 7/30/2007 12:19:47 PM |

^^ How many non black players have been in trouble with the law? I never see any on ESPN or the news. I am sure they get in trouble but they aren't the star's of their teams probably. 7/31/2007 8:54:37 AM |

^ I see this is true I would like to see them all punished equally. I am just tired of seeing certain people mainly stars and athletes given special treatment 7/31/2007 11:06:10 AM |

I don't think there is any special treatment going on here, other than the fact that Thurman played for the Bengals, and they create a mess for the NFL by refusing to control and discipline their players. Thurman was investigated recently for assaulting 2 guys in Georgia. Charges were dropped, but it's too reminiscent of a Pacman type situation where the guy has a track record of getting drunk and fighting all the time. 7/31/2007 1:17:52 PM |

^more like too reminiscent of the duke lacrosse rape case where people try to ruin other people's lives
The Bengals *have* controlled their players lately, several teams have had arrests now since the last Bengals one, including the Panthers obviously.
Check out http://www.profootballtalk.com/turdwatch.htm , which gives 7 points for a felony, 3 for a misdemeanor, 1 for a conviction; the Bengals aren't even first in the AFC North.
If you are right about targeting the Bengals though, it would help to understand that Goodell went to college outside Pittsburgh during their super bowl years, is good friends with the mayor of Pittsburgh, and was strongly endorsed by Stealers owner Rooney. 7/31/2007 1:43:22 PM |

if you wanted to make the Pittsburgh argument, the team in question would have to be the browns 7/31/2007 1:55:16 PM |

You know that series of commercials on ESPN where the guys say ridiculous things about sports while the camera is zoomed in on their ass and the guys are all like, "I was talking out of my..."?
It's like that when I click on Sports Talk these days. 7/31/2007 11:22:04 PM |

^I am saying that Odell's 32 game suspension for missing 2 drug tests and getting 1 DUI is not worth 30 games more than Allen's 2 game suspension for 2 DUI's. Do you really disagree and think this is talking out of my ass?
Or do you think I was being serious about the Pittsburgh conspiracy or something? 8/1/2007 12:46:55 AM |

Fixed.
Suspended first 4 games of 2006 season for failing or refusing to take drug test.
September 25, 2006 - charged with operating a vehicle while impaired. Cincinnati police captain Dan Gerard said Thurman tested as a "high tier" or "Super OVI," meaning his blood alcohol content was in excess of .17 — more than twice the legal limit in Ohio, which is .08.
June 5th - ESPN reported that he was allegedly wanted for assault in Georgia along with kicking and hitting two men. As it turns out, Thurman and his brother were sought for questioning in connection with said assault.8/1/2007 3:00:48 PM |

^the assault is completely irrelevant as charges were dropped. After hearing that he didn't show up to a scheduled appointment with his probation officer last week, I will concede that Odell's suspension extension was warranted.
I still don't understand why Goodell only suspends Allen for 2 games though, for 2 DUIs.
