5 mic's out of 5 by source magazine. It's a great album all the way through. I even like it better than reasonable doubt. That being said, it still doesn't touch illmatic.

The neptunes produced exactly zero songs on the blueprint.

If I had to rate the 2 albums in question, it'd be:

Illmatic - 9
Reasonable Doubt - 8

Also, It Was Written - 8

Since then, I haven't liked much by either of them.

IMO, Nas by a margin.

It Was Written has some of the best rhymes ever put to paper as well - try I Gave You Power or Take It In Blood, for example.

One of Jay-Z's first ever recorded verses was on a Big L/DITC track - Da Graveyard - and it's like the worst fucking verse on the song. Reasonable Doubt was a classic, but give me Showbiz, AG, Big L, Lord Finesse, any of those cats any day.

Fixed it for ya. Cam'ron's got a verse on track 4 (whatever the other collaboration track is) under the name "Killa Cam." I think Big L actually got shot for releasing that guy on the rap world.

tree u called reasonable doubt a "solid album" when most consider it classic wtF?? i enjoy the blueprint more than reasonable doubt so i think that should be listed as a classic as well.

even if you rate illmatic as better than those 2 combined nobody considers any of his other albums worth a damn let alone a classic. if you have any more questions please reference verse 3 of the take over

I know you missin all the - FAAAAAAAME!
But along with celebrity comes bout seventy shots to your brain
Nigga; you a - LAAAAAAAME!
Youse the fag model for Karl Kani/Esco ads
Went from, Nasty Nas to Esco's trash
Had a spark when you started but now you're just garbage
Fell from top ten to not mentioned at all
to your bodyguard's "Oochie Wally" verse better than yours
Matter fact you had the worst flow on the whole fuckin song
but I know - the sun don't shine, then son don't shine
That's why your - LAAAAAAAME! - career come to a end
There's only so long fake thugs can pretend
Nigga; you ain't live it you witnessed it from your folks pad
You scribbled in your notepad and created your life
I showed you your first tek on tour with Large Professor
(Me, that's who!) Then I heard your album bout your tek on your dresser
So yeah I sampled your voice, you was usin it wrong
You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song
And you ain't get a coin nigga you was gettin fucked and
I know who I paid God, Serchlite Publishing
Use your - BRAAAAAAAIN! You said you been in this ten
I've been in it five - smarten up Nas
Four albums in ten years nigga? I can divide
That's one every let's say two, two of them shits was doo
One was - AHHH, the other was "Illmatic"
That's a one hot album every ten year average
And that's so - LAAAAAAAME! Nigga switch up your flow
Your shit is garbage, but you try and kick knowledge?
(Get the fuck outta here) You niggaz gon' learn to respect the king
Don't be the next contestant on that Summer Jam screen
Because you know who (who) did you know what (what)
with you know who (yeah) but just keep that between me and you for now

Too bad Pharrel had really nothing to do with the Blueprint. That was Kanye that had his touch all over the album.

And cant yall see that he's fake, the rap version of TD Jakes, prophecizin on yalls cd's and tapes?

It's gotta hurt he's Nas' baby mommas favorite rapper.

^^^you cannot say that the black album was a let down. So many good beats/lyrics on that shit. OK, so a few of the songs might seem a little too commercial, but damn the others are so solid.

for the sake of arguing, define an album where the artist is trying

cause, as keeping on topic, Nas came off the same way after a while

i mean

SHOORTTYYYY SAY WHATS YO PRICE

give me a break, thats bout worse than anything jay-z has done

dont want to sound too cliche, but jay seemed to put the large majority of his shit out as a product to make money off of...nas seemed to put a higher percentage of his shit out with heart and soul and effort

and he's just a bette emcee

^^ hahah this argument has been done to death, you can't help but sound cliche'

lets say we agree to this

Nas is the better MC on some introspective, deep thought, smoke a blunt to type shit
Jay-Z is the better MC on getting clubs/parties rockin, a lil introspective/deep when he wants to be, and get drunk and holla at some skee-os too

plus jay-z is a BUSINESS, man, hahah

they were both at the top of their game at one point, but ask kids nowadays and lil wayne and jim jones blow em out the water, so any of this to those types of folk is all a moot point

one thing that killed me that i never expected you to say tree is that

Quote :
"jay raps about shit big L would actually do

not that that necessarily has anything to do with rap skills but its another reason why jay-z is a fake bitch"

please tell me you meant shit big L would seem like he would actually do, i hate hearing people claim a rapper is "fake" because they rap about gun bustin but wouldn't do shit, as I'm sure the majority of em wouldn't

then you have big lurch outta houston that was on PCP and partially ate a chick, but thats a different story

and i'll give jay his niche with getting the women dancing but i dont want to chill at the crib with that garbage on

^i think theres plenty of evidence that Big L was living that lifestyle

and Nas never claimed to, he basically admits he talks about the shit he [i]sees[/s] as far as murder and stuff

and if Jay was runnin shit like he said how come when he knocked over my boy's glass of water at Friday's and my boy stepped to him he backed off like a punk?

jay did too in an interview

thought nas is a far better storyteller, he's far from wack as you call him out to be

and why is it that other rappers say "best rapper alive since the best rapper retired" and shit like that, when they aren't saying "the best rapper alive since biggie and pac died" that is

ahah and if your story about your boy is true, then ya boy is a stan for tryna buck on a spilled glass of water. but lets keep this argument rooted in the realms of reality for the sake of those that didn't get their glass knocked over by jay-z

cause those rappers are trying to get down with jay and get paid...doesnt have anything to do with his rhyme skills

and i dont blame them for wanting money cause everybody does but theres a difference in skills and success

and nah that shit with the water happened in like 98...and jay was rollin with a big crew...course if you think hes actually some kind of gangsta...........
