not really... i agree it's easier on a phone with buttons but the spell check is awesome on this thing, as long as you get around the right letter and the right # of characters it almost always figures out what word you're trying to type

^yeah but i'm talking about not looking at the device at all. Even if you just glance at the phone every now and then you still can't use an iphone while driving w/o looking almost the entire time. I think the best phones are phones like the AtnT tilt. Where it's touch, but also has a qwerty pad. My phones got a qwerty pad AND a numeric pad. It slides up for the numberic pad, and slides right for the qwerty pad. Love it.

I really have nothing against iphones. They're really fun to play with, and very impressive to show off. Plus they have a beautiful display. But in terms of practical use i think i'd get really really tired having to deal with looking at the phone the entire time while typing. Not to mention sitting there waiting for a youtube video to load. I can click on "play video" and the youtube video plays right away, no streaming time. Yay for 3g!

Adding pdanet to the list. Hooked it up to my laptop without any issues and i get internet at the beach!! It's slow when it's on edge (30-40kB/s) but on 3G it's really fast and works well. What other programs do you guys use for modem software?

^it won't read pdfs will it? Which office? Word? I'm looking for a pdf reader that will reformat the text of a pdf to be readable on a phone. Like actually word wrap everything and display it correctly and smoothly.

This is the closest thing i could find:
http://www.handmark.com/products/detail.php?id=1226

But it's horrible and has lots of bugs.

I have windows mobile 6, and it has "ClearVue PDF" preinstalled, but this only renders the pdf file (so you have to scroll to read it). I need a program that will reformat the text and wordwrap it to be readable on a smartphone.

noticeably faster - the UI is mainly the same - file system improvements really help the speed - the threaded SMS is nice as well as the new version of PIE - it's more "snappy" going through menus and it appears the memory management is better - runs great even when memory gets low

I have a pantech duo, kinda new phone. Just worried it might screw things up with AT&T. Plus it's not unlocked. I've never flashed a phone, so i guess i'll have to do some research on how.

charge your battery for 24 hours 3x (the phone will say that it is completely charged in least than 24 hours but it is not), and each time let the battery die completely before recharging it and this will condition your battery for optimal life.

^^ why would you buy a phone that is past it's end of life cycle? the phone is well over 2 years old...the chances of it actually being brand new and not refurbished are just about 0

how much did you pay?

has anyone on here with an HTC PPC6800 unlocked the GPS receiver in their phone? I have ran into several occasions where a GPS receiver working with Google Maps would have been handy, but Alltel doesn't seem to give a shit about releasing the updated firmware for the phone.

i've been using the gps receiver in my 6800 for over a month now - i'm on sprint so it's a bit easier but not by that much

Too bad it's not coming out for a while. I think they said second half of 2008. Phone is rediculous though. 800 by 480 resolution!!!!

I'm much more curious about PSX emulators. Anybody ever tried FPSECE? Here's an old video of a guy running Final Fantasy VII on his Axim.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OTulLVj3Ww

This was added back in January of 2007, but I'm not sure how much progress has been made in this project since then.

And here's the official site.

http://www.fpsece.net/download.htm

I'd love to be able to play Final Fantasy Tactics on my 8525.

http://www.phonemag.com/xperia-x1-runs-windows-mobile-6-1-professional-021052.php

Check out the photos at the bottom.

I want it. It's gonna be like 700$ though. Think it's stainless steal casing. 800 by 480 resolution. Wifi, WM 6.1. Only 3.2 MP camera, nothing compared to nokias N95's 5 MP, but still good. That keyboard is crazy cool though.

My thoughts exactly.

[quote]For sure, iPhones are fun, but when you want to do some serious handheld computing, you need a machine that means business and serves for more than poking fun at with your nose picker. I appreciated my tour as a stranger in the strange land of the iPhone, and thanks for the finger frolics, but I’ll stick with my far more powerful Windows Mobile Professional device. [quote]

i don't think you can unless there is some sort of 'emulator' that will make wm5 recognize it.

pretty sure that this doesn't exist, and it it did it would most likely be some relatively bulky piece of hardware that would have to be inserted in the mini-usb port.

and no, it's exactly how i described it. it's a tiny wifi card that goes in the mini sd slot...

got the http://www.skyfire.com/ beta finally. its the beast os for wm phones, however, i still prefer ie just because its simple, has one column feature, and fast enough. but i probably will use this browser about half the time. def cop that if you can, its worth a dl, and can be useful for like porn sites and such

well the whole point of skyfire is that you can use ANY webpage just as you would on your desktop, including embedded media, javascript, ajax, etc.... thats a huge advantage and very useful, however, for normal browsing i'll stick to ie.
