see I dont even know how old that song is

I'm pretty open to new music too, although the metalcore genre hasnt ever really been my cup of tea, I was expecting BTBAM to be a little better since there are two threads dedicated to them on the first page

oh well

no worries. i guess one day they need to write an album with NOTHING BUT the non-metal stuff they do so that the people that dont want to wade through that side of it dont have to.

i suppose its a bit much to ask people to sit through half of a 14 min song as well to get to sections they might really enjoy if theyre not into metal.

Haven't had a chance to sit down and listen to the new album yet, but I am looking forward to it. I can see how that particular style (especially the vocals) does take a lot of getting used to for most people. I primarily listen to that type of metal for the music anyway, and if you want to know what they're saying/screaming, welp.... there is this thing called the internet.

first listen: this is probably the most inventive album to come out for this genre, combining all the influences metal always had going for it, and uplifting them on a pedestal with a new representation. its fun and creative, yet still holds its metal girth with some brutal riffs. the flow of the album is something any artist of any genre should strive for.

this album breathes talent, screams insanity, and an original sound is born. incredible album.

now its only test is that of time.

i dont know where at any point of this album you could say they just simply "shred". a deconstruction of the guitar work would show otherwise. a greater appreciation of musical talent on a technical level will do well to put you in awe of this album.

as far as the screaming...thats something i cannot debate if you already have a notion to not like it. but for people like me, even though you can't tell what they're saying most of the time, it SPEAKS more so than any other music. its the raw expression of the mood they're trying to convey...its a progression and outward manifestation of feelings this band has...a voice for their convictions. and what it does for me is it compliments my emotional parallels to the aggression, the intensity, and direction. and you can take the screams as another instrument...from what i know of BTBAM, the singer is operatically trained. or you can take the free will route...if you can connect emotionally to the music, apply whatever lyrics you want that pertain to your life instead. im sure you do this with music you understand already...think "i bet you think this song is about you, don't you."

yes it was a generalization, i wasn't actually trying to get into a serious discussion about something that only appealed to me about 20% of time i was listening to it BUT

there is no doubt they are very technically proficient, intricate and difficult riffs do not always equal enjoyable to listen to, in MY opinion it sounds forced and does not flow to me. do i like metal? no, outside of pantera there is no metal band i really like. its just my taste in music, but with two threads i figured i'd give it a chance, maybe this band was different. and while very diverse, in the end, they are still a metal band and i found myself enjoying the non-metal parts and being bored by the metal parts. it has nothing to do with "greater appreciation of musical talent on a technical level" and everything to do with taste. i can thoroughly understand why people who enjoy metal would think this is an amazing album, it's very genre-defying, however as i stated before its just not for me.

lol @ this thread. But crazy to think they're doing their 10 year anniversary tour for this album. This turned out to be the album that put them on the map for a larger audience. Glad they were able to get off Victory records too.

Wish they would have added a Raleigh show instead of a second Charlotte date.

^^^ yeah im surprised they didnt do one show in the triangle area considering that's where they mostly all live these days.

I'm really stoked for the show here in Dallas next month. They played Dallas last year at a really big venue and it sold out but that venue is just too big to be enjoyable for me often. This time they're playing at a smaller place I really like. It's been a minute since ive seen them at a smaller venue too.

Too much incoherent hoarse screaming. Never got the point of that past more than a few seconds of it. It's just, annoying.
