The time here seems a little suspicious to me, with people flipping out about SB, SB making his most extreme thread ever, then SB being banned... smells kind of like a conspiracy

i think it was coincidental.

SB gets (got) one thread per week, and this incident with the russians videotaping a backwoods nazi excecution just came out within that past week or so.

i think he just got a hardon about it and posted it along with one of his heros blog praising the event (that Hal-somebodyorother guy)

he was getting bolder and bolder because (it seemed) that he could post almost anything and get away with it. Fundamentally I agreed with Duke's hands-off approach. Until this last one. I think everyone agreed it was *way* over the lines of what's acceptable or tolerable.

Personally, I hope he never comes back.

forgive me, but I am with Noen on this one, folks. I don't like what he posted any more than the next guy, but I do understand that if the victims in the stuff he posted were different, then many of you would feel differently. Hell, I don't think it is really the videos themselves that bother you. Many of us laugh at some pretty sick shit in this site, and while I haven't looked at what he posted, I'm willing to bet that it's not even half as bad as most of the other shit on this site.

What most people are pissed off at, as I can see it, is really that he suggested that we should engage in the wholesale slaughter of illegal immigrants. The videos just give people a seemingly good reason to say "but this time it's different; it's WORSE!!!," when it really isn't different at all. It simply comes down to "I don't like what he says, BAN HIM," and that simply doesn't jive with me. Because when we get into this matter of "I don't like what he says, BAN HIM," then we become too much like Prick Pride for my tastes, where truly thoughtful and rational discussion can't take place. I'm not arguing "slippery slope" by any means, but what you guys are asking is for us to draw a line somewhere where it can't be fairly drawn.

Ultimately, salisburybot posts his crap to get a rise out of people. so when you go into his threads and flame him, then he gets exactly what he wants.

I've NEVER been a fan of this bullshit of "one thread per week, post only in your threads" bullcrap. Not everyone is held to that standard, and that bothers me. I simply DON'T like the idea of holding one standard for one person and a different one for another. IF salisburybot dicks up someone else's thread, then suspend his ass. If he BTTT's his own threads relentlessy, suspend his ass. If he makes thousands of pointless threads, then lock and delete them. Basically, follow the site's fucking rules. But, apply them EQUALLY for EVERYONE, not just the "with whom we agrees" while leaving different rules for the "with whom we don't agrees."

^^ there is no way that salisburyboy could have been treated the same way as everyone else. we tried that for a long time, remember? it was a fucking mess. imposing those restrictions was a pragmatic means of allowing him to still post without fucking up the forum, not a means of restricting his posting because I/we disagreed with him.

I understand, but I can't completely avoid drawing lines. By complete inaction, I'm still drawing a line. It's impossible to be completely fair in every regard, but I stand by how I handled this issue from start to finish.

Ultimately, he's a pretty tough character to defend. I did it on ideological grounds, mostly, and to avoid setting precedent of stringent moderation. Also, the guerilla tactics and incessant bitching of some posters only served to keep him around even longer (and helped to give me even more pause against finally getting rid of him).

yes there is. you simply follow site rules. if he keeps fucking up, ban him completely. it's that simple. he doesn't have a right to post here, so don't think that you need to create some way to allow him to post. there's no need to create pansy-assed rules for him and him alone. if he can't follow the normal rules then he can't post at all. It's really that simple. There's no idealogical panty-twisting to be had here. And, it's not being a "stringent moderator" to do so. It's being a fair and just one. To apply the law equally and impartially to all is the epitome of justice, is it not?

my intuition had absolutely nothing to do with you. yeah, like many others i had sent you a PM ... but you hadn't replied to me. you hadnt said anything to anyone about it that i was aware of

i just can tell which way the wind blows. I was certain that he crossed a line that was inexcusable and indefensible. I was even halfway expecting the owner(s) to get involved.
