I think Beck has some potential. He was doing well when he just relied on swing passes.

The guy is more color blind than Vinny Testaverde though.

I would rather him get lots of throwing reps/interception in a game we were going to lose anyhow, than to get them in the future games that we may have a chance at.

Even if beck played better, we would not have won today I dont think. They just had us in the running game, and so we were forced to go to beck alot.

MOST schools have problems when trying to break in a new QB. Why are we being so GD demanding??

lets loosen up [/thread]

you don't break in a quarterback without an O-line. you just break them.

^^^I think we could have been in position to win the game in the end w/o 6 TOs. A fg at half (instead of the int) and w/o their defensive TD in the 1st half we would have been up 13-10 at least.

Given the fact that half of all our possessions ended in TOs and we lost by less than 3TDs to the 2nd (maybe 3rd) best team in the ACC w/o our starting DTs, TE and RB, I think we did ok under the circumstances.

We're going to beat Wofford by 30.

I'll call it now... Beck will have the NCSU record for tackles by a QB if he remains the starter

I thought our pass protection actually showed some signs of improvement, especially considering we had no offensive balance. It is amazing just how bad our run blocking is, however.

I want Jamie Barnette back. At least we always had a shot. That being said, put in Wilson. He can't do any worse.

We aren't going to waste Wilson's redshirt....he needs to get used to the game and the playbook.

Plus we don't even know if he has the size/ability to play college QB.

Redshirt argument is debatable for sure. Size in and of itself is not an issue - he's not a giant by any means, however, he's also not a 3 step drop, pocket QB. And you NEVER know if a kid is ready for college football until he steps on the field during a game - that's part of the excitement of the game.

Give Beck a chance. He's played ONE game. Yeah, the stat sheet isn't impressive, but you gotta let him develop or we'll never have a quarterback worth a damn.

how many times do you hafta throw an INT while getting pwned before you figure out "take the sack?"

The reason he threw a bajillion interceptions and fumbled was because of our fucking piss-poor offensive line who cannot run-block or pass protect at all.

Our run blocking was not even on a high school level. It was SO fucking piss-poor. I was a mediocre at best high school lineman and watching the replay of this game made me fucking angry as hell. Absolutely inexcusable missed assignments, no effort, no follow through, bad form etc etc etc. It doesn't matter if we had Colt Brennan in the damn game, we are going to continue to get slaughtered until the o-line gets its fucking ass in gear.

Defense looked okay, much better than last week and did as well as could be expected given BC's retarded field advantage and ToP."

taking 50+ yards worth of sack in the first half instead of throwing the ball out of bounds is the reason why Evans cost us the UCF game.

he recruited Marcus Stone too... when Stone committed to State, Ryan went to BC.

The Top 2 out of PA that year was 1. Stone 2. Ryan... they both were choosing from NCSU and BC.

Man I wish that had gone the other way... Chuck would still be here though.

Because you can only coach down a little. Look at Rivers. He was a natural, regardless of the coach. Ryan is also another one of those talents that are hard to find. Regardless of the coach, Ryan was going to be good.

Stone has looked pretty darn good at TE so far...haven't seen him blow any big blocks or drop any passes (may be mistaken)

Quote :
"WEEKLY LEADERS

Rk Name C/ATT YDS TD INT RAT
1. B. Brohm, LOU 25/39 401 5 0 192.8
2. C. Painter, PURDUE 37/48 347 6 0 179.1
3. N. Graziano, NEVADA 22/37 339 2 1 148.9
4. H. Beck, NCSU 26/50 322 0 5 86.1"

And I don't understand the point of this post? Was this in support of Beck? Or showing how you can throw for 300+ yards and still suck? 192.8, 179.1, 148.9....86.1 lol

Although Beck did toss 5 picks, I am still more excited and have more faith that he can lead us to some actual TDs than Davis, Stone, and Evans combined.

Evans should never, ever set foot on the field again in a meaningful situation. His candy arm and lack of mobility are more than enough reasons to keep his ass buried on the bench.

Beck, despite his stupid decisions, atleast is physically capable of keeping us in the game assuming he can avoid the turnover. We had BC on their heels in the 1st half and it was due solely to the fact that Beck could throw the 50 yard bomb. Give this kid a chance. If he keeps turning the ball over against Wofford, then lets give Burke a shot. Fuck Evans...

I agree totally, but wanted to point out that Rivers did have Norm Chow for a year. Arguably one of the best quarterbacks coaches in College Football.

I agree with the most part, but come on...after beating Boston college and FSU, Evans lost:
23-25
20-26
7-14
23-31
14-20
9-23
16-21

Only 2 of those 7 losses were lost by more than 7 points...I don't think you can go as far as saying we weren't "in" any of those games.

When you look at the numbers, I don't see how Beck over Evans is such the obvious anwser.

Daniel Evans

Harrison Beck

The non-deep threat from evans will keep the defense lining up with 8 in the box allowing our running game to do nothing (not like it has done anything anyway).

We've got to have someone who will cause the secondary to respect the long ball.

When Evans was in the first half of the UCF game, the oline was non-existent.

I blame BOTH of their struggles on the line.

I mean, I don't really remember Beck throwing the "long" ball much against UCF...and as you said the long ball didn't seem to open up the running game last weekend. So normally I would agree with you, but not sure how much it plays here. Evans has plenty arm to throw a 30 yard...

Again, I'm not really arguing that Evans *should* start, just more so that I don't think Beck is as clear cut the choice right now as people are making it out to be. I definitly want to see what improvement Beck can make...but if he can't I'll take the brains at QB over 300 yards passing every week.

I call on the o-line and running game to step up a little to open things up for the qb. There's no reason either of those guys shouldn't be successful running behind Andre, Tney, and Jamelle.

I'd rather have a player throw the ball out of bounds instead of take a concussion in a game. Also, taking 10 sacks in a game is going to result in several fumbles eventually. Evans hasn't been the same since that concussion he got last year.

Chow took rivers from being an above average QB to an NFL prospect. If you look at Rivers before and after working with Chow, he fundamentally changed his game. That coaching made a profound impact on Rivers.

Coaching makes a HUGE difference, especially for young guys who can still be molded out of their bad habits. Beck isn't going to be the next Rivers, but with a year of solid coaching, he can definitely be good enough to get us in ACC contention and into the top 25 next year. All he has to do is to be consistent and learn his role.

His deep ball threat + a little more control is all we need to be able to bring the running game up to par and give our O-Line a chance to really perform.

maybe no one has thought of this, but in the N&O today, there was a snip-it from Jolonn Dunbar, a BC linebacker. He said that concerning the 5 interceptions, "Familiarity played a huge role," since evidently we used a lot of the same routes from O'Brien's BC playbook.

This gives me a LITTLE bit of hope for Beck.

Kind of funny that we all thought that since our staff knew BC so well, we'd know their weaknesses and be able to play like we did FSU under Chuck. It's funny, because the reality is that BC's defense had been seeing the same shit for 10 years and knew exactly where to stand to intercept the routes

edit: The best way to teach a QB to stop making inexperienced mistakes is to give him more experience. I say leave Beck in for the year, he's the best we got
