Don't let them tear it down I say. Its sad that they keep talking about more room and parking spaces needed. Now with 2 campuses i don't see why their is more need on main campus. No major college can provide parking for every student and faculty at the college. If the old field house goes then how long before Renyolds get to old and is torn down for another parking deck??? 9/16/2007 11:23:59 PM |

See... now you're just being crazy. Think things through; Reynolds isn't going anywhere.
The planned future decks are on the master plan map for a reason, they are planned for the future. As the campus continually grows and increases enrollment, the university needs to take into account where it will put things in the future. By figuring out where stuff will go they can prioritize construction projects.
I don't know about you but the parking on this campus really is adequate for the number of students. I feel that State knows that as well and isn't planning on building another deck in the near future. I think their next major project on Main Campus is imploding Harrelson anyways after Math and Stats move to their new building.
I will agree that I think the Field House should possibly be moved to another location, but come on, don't be so spaced out on the growth of the university. We have to expand to meet demand or else we won't remain competitive as a school. At least the university is attempting to densify on the land they currently occupy.

I honestly have no feelings of nostalgia for the Riddick Fieldhouse. The building itself is a dump, and it's been used so long for police HQ rather than football. There are plenty of building with more history that I would save before it. Were any of you clamoring to save Finley Fieldhouse before bowling the NEZ? 9/17/2007 3:30:41 AM |

My understanding was that Harrelson was going to stick around as temp/flex space until all the bond projects were done, and then it would come down. Though I suppose it's possible that, by the time Math & Stats is finished, most of the bond refits will be done or nearly so also...
I also remember seeing somewhere that Sullivan and maybe Lee are supposed to be demolished in the 2010-2015 range. No clue what they're going to replace that kind of density with though if that's the case, as Sullivan + Lee together hold about 1500 students...9/17/2007 9:33:40 AM |

CharlesHF, i guess you dont really have any historic pride for NCSU where as i come from a NCSU family
I hate seeing one of the oldest, most historic structures on campus demolished for more parking.
Riddick was more than just a place where people played football and youre an idiot for even making that your main argument 9/17/2007 9:40:33 AM |

being built in the 30's doesn't make it one of the oldest and most historic. The building has lost all of the original character. Grow up. It's not historic.
People like you killed the pavillion. Shut up and go away.

They do't need more parking on campus. The main plan is to actually make campus walking friendly not allowing non State vehicles to through Dan allen. The whole idea is to not have any driving on many roads through campus. Parking is fine I always got a permit. With a 2nd campus the growth will not take place on main campus. There is only 65 acres on main campus most have building's on it. 9/17/2007 9:21:26 PM |

If thats the way to go why are we gutting buildings and re building them when we could just build all new buildings? the 1911 building along with some other old buildings that have been gutted and rebuilt. If you don't know where you came from you can't know where your going to go. 9/18/2007 9:38:38 PM |

our campus looks like soviet russia just before the collapse... without the kremlin.
we have great older buildings lying between 1970's era eye-sores.
but we do have Centennial Campus. more like Kudzu Campus. with a little imagination, I can see those buildings looking like crap. but thats just because the chancellor decided an Engineering facility needs to look funtionable... like a prison or a new public high school, instead of some more timeless design.
soon we will be going to class in a fucking office building, just to graduate and work in another fucking office building. 9/18/2007 11:43:23 PM |
