- This movie was pretty good when they weren't trying to shove a smart ass quip into every fucking line of dialogue (maybe 15 minutes). It would seem less phony if they gave characters normal dialogue every now and then.
- The soundtrack by itself was good, but the way they used music in this movie was pretty obnoxious.
- Ellen Page performed the 4th or 5th best acting job in this movie.
- More Michael Cera, please.
- Name dropping a bunch of bands isn't cool. It's just as bad as product placement in a Michael Bay movie.

the name-dropping of bands didn't bother me at all. I mean, asking someone their favorite bands is a fairly normal aspect of human interaction. Would've you rather she listed off ficticious bands instead of actual bands?

also, what other movies have mentioned Sonic Youth? I know they did a cover of I'm Not There for the Dylan movie... but what else have they been mentioned in?

i personally liked the movie. the band name dropping didn't annoy me that much. her dialogue was a bit much at times (ie the morgan freeman line...that was just stupid). i kinda felt the comedy was similar to little miss sunshine. not a whole lot was REAL funny, but acting made it funny.

i agree, more michael cera was needed.

i thought it was pretty hilarious how little people cared about the controversial topics. parents didn't seem to mind too much that she was pregnant, gardner didn't seem too upset at jason bateman. but it helped the tone of the movie not be too melodramatic. nice

I liked it, but mostly the second half.

In the beginning, I found it somewhat jarring how they swicthed so quickly between serious and being over-the-top/campy with some of the dialog.

Either it toned down towards the end, or I got use to it, but it was overall a pretty good movie.

Also, WRT the Sonic Youth thing. I don't think they were "name" dropping. It seemed to me they were mocking the guy for liking Sonic Youth so much, in a way mocking Sonic Youth.
