This argument about NCSU v. ECU...yes, they beat a debatably weak NCSU team last year (I only say debatably weak because we lost X games by less than 7 points and beat 2 top 25 teams), but their recruiting isn't as good, their facilities aren't as good, they are in a weaker conference...all in all, NCSU > ECU...but, yes they beat us last year.

Anyone that thinks we will win this game is a fool. I saw we only pull off 1 more win the rest of the year, but not against ecu...someone better i think.

next year we'll slowly start to progress...but until then...let the bleeding continue.

last i checked...doing more with less was better than less with more.

2007: 1-1 (State game left)

4-2 vs ACC opponents since Skip Holtz got there. Weaker Conference, yes. That arguement is moot as they consistantly play ACC opponents and win. Pretty much the only thing dragging our SOS down is our shitty conference and dragging your SOS up is your decent conference. NCSU= #9 SOS, ECU= #37 SOS out of 119.

Either way, its going to be a good game. A close one of course. I'm trying to get tickets to the game, but of course they are sold out.

thats bullshit, you can continue to revel in your elitest attitude, but you had a few good years with Rivers and thats it. Chuck A basically built this program into the biggest shoulda/coulda/woulda program on the east coast.

ECU beat us last year, they'll probably beat us this year, and though I don't care about the series record (the only one I care about is Carolina), I'm sure you beat us before last year. Does this mean you're a better team right now? Most definitely. Are you the better program? Not by a long shot. I give Skip Holtz 2 more years before he says "peace out." Once he's gone, you'll go back to a sub-500 Conference USA Team w/ sub-par facilities and athletes who couldn't qualify else-where. And even if he doesn't leave in 2 years, I'd bet money that once O'Brien gets 3 years worth of his recruits into his system, it won't even matter. O'Brien knows how to get the most out of his players. Chuck didn't as you pointed out.

And if you want people to stop acting as if ECU fans cream their pants every time they beat NC State, stop with your batshit crazy responses to said folks. Otherwise you only prove their point. Why else would you get so pissed off about it? If it's not true, it's probably obvious to more people than just you.

This game could get ugly.

Has state even beaten a div 1a school yet?

I like that the game is a couple weeks off. I get to watch all the state fans squirm for an extra two weeks.

It must suck knowing that you're going to lose to ECU. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

But srsly, could be a close game. We could sustain some key injuries between now and then.

is there any place to get reasonably priced tix? the cheapest i've found is $100 a seat on stubhub/razorgator. Maybe an ECU fan can get motivated enough for this game to spend that much on a seat, but not I.

well.. last Saturday ECU put up 51 pts. and beat UCF

I don't like the we lost to them so we are going to lose to them BS, but it isn't looking pretty.

Their defense can stop the run, however they can't stop the pass.... too bad we don't have QB.

We have played much tougher competition than ECU so we SHOULD be prepared to play, however we all know that we won't be.

I have tickets but I'm considering not going now, idk if i can live down another loss to ECU and let those fuckers rub it in my face 2 yrs in a row.

I can't wait to see what our program looks like in 2-3 years, it is just painful right now.

Ok so ECU is in an inferior conference, sucks academically, and always outrecruited by it's larger in-state BCS competitors right? So that said, State should bring the house down on the Pirates year in and year out..........right? A good look at the record books reveal no shortage of Pirate victories. One common misconception for you state fans is that our games together are like "bowl games" for us. Don't flatter yourselves. When we play NC State we not only believe we can win, we expect to win. Sorry but it's the truth. Do we look forward to playing you? Absolutely. You guys have nicer facilities, more talented athletes, better recruiting, play in a stronger conference etc. ECU will always be your little brother.....always. It's just the way things are. When we compete with ACC teams, it shows where the program is headed. We regularly schedule OOC games against teams like Miami, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, South Carolina as well as other SEC/ ACC teams. NC State insists on playing 1-AA creampuffs and community colleges of sorts. I think that State's program might improve similarly if they scheduled tougher opponents. As a result i simply don't take in as much satisfaction as say a win over UNC; a team that has dominated us throughout the years.

As far as out of conference games go, picking a fight with William & Mary is no longer in our best interests. John Thompson was a nice guy but drug our program into the mud after Steve Logan left. We've watched Louisville and Cincy move on to bigger and better things and i'm sure our athletic dept has similar endeavors. We're a smaller school but this has been done before. Quintessentially, Virginia Tech comes to mind. Conf USA is a good fit for ECU right now. NC State (even with Rivers) has not been anything more than below average in ACC play. We have a better record against the ACC under Skip Holtz than you do (4-2). When you say things like "cupcake conference", and then LOSE, what does that make your program look like?

I fail to see why comparing the worst team of the conference losing to teams in another conference is any indicator as to which conference is better... unless you're trying to make the argument that the one conference is only inferior to another when the absolute worst team in conference A will dominate the best team in conference B 9 out of 10 times.

Yes, our OOC schedule is comparatively weaker than yours in the past few years (I will assume this to be true based on your comments), but look at our SOS compared to yours or look at our in conference schedule compared to yours (this being one of the main reason the weaker conference argument is used). However, that was while we were still under Chuck. A majority of the fan base wanted Chuck to schedule harder teams. Now that we have TOB, I believe that our OOC schedule will be stronger, which will keep our SOS high.

Also, just because we have better recruits, facilities, and partake in a stronger conference doesn't mean that we will always "dominate" you. A key factor that you left out was coaching! Under an idiot coach with great facilities and recruits, you are still going to keep mediocre results. (see NCSU past couple years) Under a great coach with great facilities and recruits, you should get great results. (see USC, OSU, etc...) Lets have this argument 3 years from now and we'll see if we establish a dominating trend over you. Until then, this is an argument not of conferences, facilites, or recruits, but rather an argument of coaching, because we are comparing nothing but the results of competition between good and bad coaching.

Clarification: As I originally stated our recruits and facilities are better, which makes our football program (program, not team) better (hence the NCSU > ECU). The number of players we have in the NFL is also supporting evidence of this.

Nobody is making an argument that Conf USA is BETTER or even on the same level as the ACC or SEC. What i'm talking about is the "Conf USA is a joke, thank GOD that's not us" type fans you have.

When i attended the NCSU/ECU game last season there were 4 drunk rednecks behind us that hollered out "BEAT THAT SECOND RATE TAME!!!" and "E-C-WHO??" They even threw sunflower seeds/peanut shells when they thought we weren't looking. (real brave of them by the way heckling a guy and his girlfriend sitting next to 2 elderly Pirate fans) After we pulled ahead for good and the game was pretty much decided they were the first to leave. They couldn't look us in the eye as they made their way down. This is indicative of what i find in NC State's fans. They really couldn't believe that this actually happened. Probably never heard of Steve Logan.... probably have no idea how rich/entertaining our rivalry is.....probably never knew they played ECU in a bowl game. I'm not only an ECU fan but a college football fan. I come onto these boards for good football talk.. (I go to state games too btw) NC State has some really knowledgeable fans but ppl like that make the fanbase look bad. Some of you on here really know your stuff but to say that ECU sucks because Conf USA is inferior yields 2 things about the person saying it: 1.) They believe that the level of competition is subpar compared to the ACC and 2.) they inadvertently admit that by losing to an "inferior" opponent, that NC State is in fact in the toilet.

state fans act like they could care less, but I remember there being a whole shitload of them in charlotte a few years back when it was ECU who was going through arguably their worst season ever. Can't we all just admit that it's a fun game between two in-state schools? It's fine if you don't want to call it a "rivalry" but lets be honest, when state is better than ECU, they enjoy playing and beating them, plain and simple. In my experience, I find the two fan bases to be pretty similar actually. Much more so than any of the other state schools.

Uh. I want to beat North Carolina. Everything else is secondary.

State is not good enough to challenge for titles any random year unless there's a fluke like Wake last year. That should be as clear as day to anyone a fan of this team now. Our team last won anything of relevance in 1979. 98% of the people reading this thread weren't even born yet.

I'd like to beat Maryland too and Clemson, Florida State, Duke, etc. Of course. But don't act as with we have designs on doing any better than the Gator Bowl - the football version of the NIT. We don't. We're not a national level program, and I doubt we ever will be.

So rivalries are all we as a fanbase have got to look forward to as accomplishments. And ECU is a rival, cause if they weren't, people wouldn't trash talk about them on these boards.

As someone on this forum said when Amato got fired:

"State football is about friends, family, and tailgating. As long as we beat the Holes every year and get 7-8 wins. I'm happy."
