Quote : | "^ isnt the "official" name of NC State some long ass stupid shit? do people use that?
it would be like VT fucks saying "Virginia Polytechnic University and State University"
its technically true, but still fucking stupid and corny" |
Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University aka VPI&SU. The acronym is sometimes pronounced "Vipeesu".
NC State's official name is North Carolina State University at Raleigh, but North Carolina State University is the preferred form of the university’s full name, and that is how it appears on all diplomas, unlike for UNC-CH, UNCC, UNCG, etc. NCSU@Raleigh is never used outside of official documents where it is explicitly required. In fact the school encourages everyone to use the other form. It comes from when the assholes running the UNC School System wanted to make every school UNC-(insert name of city/town). There was once a time where they changed the name from North Carolina State College to the University of North Carolina at Raleigh, but the students, faculty, and alumni immediately protested, and it was changed to something like University of North Carolina State at Raleigh or something even more preposterous. Even though everyone associated with the university still used North Carolina State or NC State, the UNC State @ Raleigh name stayed for I believe 2 years until we came to our current name after further protest from students, faculty, and alumni. As they say, "NC State was created to correct the Chapel Hill mistake", so why would we want their name.
Quote : | "North Carolina State University *North Carolina State University at Raleigh* is the full, official name of our institution and may be written when explicitly required on official documents. Editors should otherwise avoid using this name because of the implication that another branch of North Carolina State University exists in another city.
*North Carolina State University* is the preferred form of the university’s full name. It should be paired with the university’s identifier on the front or back covers of publications and on World Wide Web (WWW) pages. This form should be used on title pages, in addresses and on first reference in text." |

Quote : | "Although established in 1887, the North Carolina State University story begins in 1862 when President Lincoln signed the federal Morrill Land-Grant Act. This Act created endowments that were to be used in the establishment of colleges that would provide a “liberal and practical education” while focusing on military tactics, agriculture and the mechanical arts without excluding classical studies.
During Reconstruction, North Carolina allocated its endowment to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For two decades, that university received $7,500 annually from the endowment. In the mid-1880s, both state farmers and business leaders claimed that Chapel Hill’s "elitist" education did not meet the mandate set forth by the Morrill Land-Grant Act. On March 7, 1887 the North Carolina General Assembly authorized the establishment of North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. The state also budgeted money for the new college and transferred North Carolina's land-grant endowment to it as well. R. Stanhope Pullen gave land towards the establishment of the new college in Raleigh. Construction began on the Main Building (now called Holladay Hall) in 1888 and the college formally opened on October 3, 1889." |

^ That and their fans are assholes.
Because I'm a State fan:
-North Carolina -Duke, basketball only -Maryland
I have no ill feeling toward ECU cause I grew up watching them. Although I understand why other State fans would (cough, 1999 hurricane).
Because I'm a Purdue fan:
-Indiana -Notre Dame, football only -Michigan -Ohio State

Well, in general they are the school I hate the most...I mean really, I'm actually pretty sure I could never marry or even date an alum from there is..... ASU (Arizona State, not Appalachian). Then comes, and really in no particular order as it depends what sport we're talking about:

I really hate Maryland for that BS on Rivers' senior night, but that was one of several bad experiences with them. I was on the field with the band that year. We were ready to charge their football team if a fight had broken out.
so anyway: 1. UNC 2. MARYLAND 3. OHIO STATE -------------- 4. NOTRE DAME 5. MICHIGAN STATE

and while we are on the topic of Marylina North, let's not forget the infamous Julius Hodge and Steve Blake sucker punch and the eventual suspension from our unbiased ACC commissioner. 10/8/2007 11:04:51 PM |

I remember when Steve Blake flipped off the crowd at the RBC Center. Good times. To be in College Park again.
And if you're gonna hate Maryland based off that, why not hate Wake Forest for ruining Julius Hodge's Senior Game? Chris Paul and the low blow and Justin Gray's last second layup. I was ready to storm the court... 10/9/2007 1:31:30 AM |

Hate to bump, but to clarify
Quote : | "There was once a time where they changed the name from North Carolina State College to the University of North Carolina at Raleigh" |
We were NEVER called that. Governor Terry Sanford (A UNC-CH Grad) wanted to consolidate the names with the new UNC System in 1963, but a compromise between "University of North Carolina at Raleigh" (his choice) and "North Carolina State University" (our choice) was reached with "North Carolina State of the University of North Carolina at Raleigh".
1887 - North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts 1917 - North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering 1963 - North Carolina State of the University of North Carolina at Raleigh 1965 - North Carolina State University at Raleigh
http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/universityarchives/universityhistory/briefhistory.html for the dates I used.
And on that note, I mega-loathe UNC-CH.

how many of you would change your rankings if this was specifically least favorite teams, and not opposing fans. it seems quite obvious a lot of you hate carolina because of the fans, not the actual players 11/22/2007 12:51:22 PM |
