Look HUR -- I'm sorry the cars got towed - I really am. But that doesn't chance the fact that they were parked on someone else's property and that gives them the right to have the cars removed.

Why would you leave your cars there, on someone else's private property? Regardless of the signs posted, common sense would dictate that if you leave your shit on someone else's property overnight, it's reasonable to expect it to be gone in the morning.

Consider this a valuable lesson learned.

If you went to Food Lion they could light your car on fire and you'd just let it slide. I mean, it was in their parking lot.

But they didn't light it on fire. They towed it, which is the correct, lawful response to illegal parking.

not if the signs were not posted properly. the way they have it worded, it is unclear about parking there during non-business hours. in fact, the sign doesn't even address it.

It's safe to assume that it's not allowed. I mean, you wouldn't leave your car in the parking lot of a police station just because there are no "Parking for Customers Only" signs, would you?

In any case, I'm sure they'll put up signs, and this will never happen again. Haha.

Last time I checked Mayor Meeker or Gov Easley did not sign a bill banning parking at commercial businesses after the store closes. So you are a moron by claiming the car was illegally parked, unless you are implying that a car was parked in the fire lane, blocking access to the road, in a handicap space w/o valid permit, or next to a fire hydrant.

It COULD be against store policy, however, there was no notice of such policy. ONLY that student wolfline riders can only park on the perimeter.

Where is the line gonna be drawn about who's car gets towed? What if I shop at Food Lion, then walk to Los Casadores for dinner?? Do I need to worry about my car being towed?

If it was my driveway with 100 parking spaces I would say go for it. This is neglecting the issue that laws governing private residences and commercial businesses are different.

your friends got towed because for the first week or so of classes this semester that lot was totally full of students riding the bus. i went to foodlion at like 9 in the morning one day and couldn't find a fucking spot because the lot was full. the sign specifically states wolfline riders, but it doesn't take a genius to realize that this applies to all non customers. you won't win this, nor should you. get over it and park on the out wall. and if you do fight this i can see foodlion turning the rule to absolutely no non-customer parking in the future

you are a moron. From my experience almost no company has issues with people parking in their lot after store hours. If they do they have a specific sign saying "No Parking After Hours"

Quote :

One of the girls whos car got towed i found out 20 min ago did write up a formal letter of complaint. Supposedly "Student Wolfline Riders" is a clever metaphor for "Anyone not actively shopping at foodlion or anyone parking after hours".

There is a reason all those shops on hillsbourgh have a sign targeting "Non Customers" and does not say "Students parking then walking across the street to NCSU will be towed"

Quote :
"I mean it face it...you FoodLion fucked up"
and should have clearly posted their parking policies and should have to refund everyone who was wrongly towed.

Last spring break the staff at my apt. complex put fliers on every tenant door indicating that they would be repaving a section of the parking lot and every car still there would be towed. The repaving was to be done Monday morning and they put the fliers out Sunday evening. I found mine at 8pm, 9 hours before my spring break. Had I a flight the day before I would have come back and been like where the fuck is my car. 50 other people got their cars towed b.c they left town friday afternoon or saturday and were not there to get the flier. I guess every resident who left their car while on spring break was at fault right???

It is Lake Johnson Mew's parking lot and they can do what they want....

just have them go into the store and buy something...

they went to the grocery store, stopped into a friends house that was nearby since the store was closed, then returned to the store to make their purchase when it was open the next day. Then they are just delayed customers

I haven't asked around but I almost guarantee that a good percentage of the people towed either made a food lion purchase or one of the people riding with them made a food lion purchase before coming over.

i'd love to see what the argument will be that is used to try and fight this - try something like this

Dont know if this is any help....

http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/115166/

If they did not report the tows to police they are in violation, also if they charged over $100

"The new ordinance means you cannot be charged more than $100 for tows without consent.

The ordinance also requires tow truck operators to accept credit or debit cards.

If you return to your car before the tow truck leaves the lot, you can get your car back for a charge up to $50.

Tow impound lots now have to have an attendant on site 24 hours a day. That way, someone can respond to drivers' calls within 15 minutes and release their vehicles within 45 minutes of the request.

The ordinance also requires towing companies to notify police within an hour of tows made without consent.

Another change -- towing companies can no longer charge you for removing your personal property from your towed car."

If they violated that threaten to take a complaint to the city. The city will fine them $50 if they did and they will most likely refund your money.

I doubt you'll get them to volunteer a refund. They probably know the law and aren't too concerned about a $50 fine when they just took $100 from you. You may have had a different experience, but all the tow truck drivers that I've dealt with were total assholes.

I think HUR is justified in his complaint. Since the business was closed at the time, I think it's safe to assume that a parking complaint didn't come from the property owner. Thus, for this to be anything other they theft, there must be clearly labeled signs posted according to city ordinance. There where signs in this case, however, they only applied to wolfline riders and made no mention of parking for other purposes. Under the city's new towing laws, HUR's friends should be able to file a complaint, get their money back, and the towing company in question should be fined and/or investigated.

there is a sign, do you expect them to have 3432424243 signs for everything? Park in the outer, that is what the sign says....and it is STUPID to park in the inner after hours, just asking for it.....so, maybe they learned a valuable lesson they can use when they become adults.

wow sir you are a genius!!!!!
A simple sign of "No Parking After Hours" or "Food Lion Customer Parking Only" and this would not have been an issue. Anyone who parked otherwise deserved getting towed. Did you not read the thread or did you just reply to troll and show your lack of intelligence.

If Food Lion did this they would be like the
Quote :
"3432424243"
other companies that have similar towing signs displayed thus no leaving any gray area for misinterpretation or for predatory towing on unsuspecting persons.

Not necessarily at Food Lion but I have gone to a store to meet someone and after shopping carpooled to another store then coming back for my car. Unless a sign was displayed saying "Parking only while shopping," hell would be raised if I came back to find my car gone. I talked to Food Lion Corp. earlier and they said unless the landowner called it in then the Avent Ferry store Food Lion was in the wrong given the conditions I gave and if the wording of the sign was as described.

you are a fool to park after hrs at a business, if I was the manager and saw cars parked in the inner I would of done the same thing(you obviously arent customers since they are closing). So, will your friends park in the inner or outer next time?

I really hope you fight this and foodlion changes there policy to absolutely no non-customer parking. then when all the people start bitching about how they can't park at the foodlion anymore we can send them to your house

That is fine by me. At least everyone will be on the same page and there will not be signs that leave interpretation up to the imagination.

If you are not a food lion customer and park you will be towed. What is so hard to grasp about the concept that due to the wording of the sign people parked with the assumption that it was ok. I guess they need your psychic powers to realize that "student wolfline riders" also means any non-customer or person parking after hours.

God damn you're a fucking moron. Its food lion property, not public. Although it does not follow the same regulations as private property, its up to food lion administration whether they decide to tow you or not regardless of the signs. And for you to say that you wouldnt give a shit if they decided to make it that no one can park there makes you a huge fucking douche. Suck it, and stop acting like a little 8 year old bitch. And remember, their property, their stipulations. Fucking Ass

so since when has the parking lot of a business not be considered their property???? So you are saying all Walmarts dont own their parking lots? lol
