I think they are idiots because they live in a neighborhood full of starter homes and have ~$100K in their fucking cars.

I just think it's stupid to spend $50k on something that generally serves no purpose other than to impress people that you don't like, and also depreciates. The exception to that is people who actually track their cars, but I suspect that most people who own these cars can barely afford them, and don't track them.

A lot of creativity and skills is required to create a fast and great handling sports car besides just dropping a monstrous displacement engine in the hood ie corvette, mustang, benz, etc

If you buy one semi-new, they hold their value REALLY well. And I think they will likely appreciate in the coming years, as starting jan 1 2008, they will have BUMPERS.

Second, in comparison to other "sports" cars, the number of lotus owners, especially the elise and exige, who track their cars is overwhelming. Not only does it not void the warranty, but the dealership SELLS track upgrades, has separate track service times, and really works with the owners.

Granted still only probably 20-25% of the owners track their cars, but compared to probably 2-5% of any other car base, that's pretty insane.

you would think that an engine MORE THAN TWICE THE SIZE would give you a better edge than 0.6 seconds, wouldn't you? i suppose you COULD spend $30,000 more for a high-end corvette, but at that point, the elise isn't really in the same bracket, is it?
