There are plenty of mobile, 6'5" QB's with strong arms in the league. Manning's athleticism and strength are not what separates him from other QB's in the league. His decision-making and accuracy are what makes him so great.

your logic is flawed. Philip Rivers was one of the best QB's in college football but where was NCSU in the AP top 25 poll his final year.10/23/2007 4:02:11 PM |

^uh what?
he's saying people used to downplay Manning's great TD and yardage numbers because he wasn't winning titles...Brady was winning titles...now that Brady is putting up astronomical numbers they are actually acknowledging stats as part of their argument and saying Brady is the best BECAUSE of his stats this year
and its a good point AndyMac...full circle 10/23/2007 4:44:18 PM |

Well, to be fair, you can't make that parallel yet because right now Brady is putting up those #'s AND winning. If they don't make it to the Super Bowl then it would be a fair comparison... however I don't think you'll find many people that would bet against the Pats being Super Bowl Champs right now...
** Actually, Brady is putting up numbers never scene in the history of the sport... not just great numbers.

i'm talking about the Brady v Manning comparison thats been going on the last 5-6 years...before Manning had the stats, but Brady had the titles...now Manning has a title and Brady has superhuman stats so far this year...I for one can't wait for the Colts Patriots game in a couple weeks 10/23/2007 4:59:10 PM |

I agree. But it's not just the analysts and message board posters that have flipped, it's Brady and Manning themselves. It used to be that the Colts were the ones "running it up" and still throwing when they were up big. Manning even has a commercial about it, the one where he's like "hey, it's 28-3, blah blah,...., I gotta run...on second thought, I think I'll pass (for a TD!), and the Patriots were the ones who just grinded out the games and won, but unspectacularly. Now, it seems like the Colts are holding back, not showing all their cards, while the Patriots are showing what they're capable of.
Oh, and,

But, how exactly do Manning's targets get so wide open on nearly every big play? There wasn't a defender within 10 yards of Dallas Clark last night on his TD. It was absurd. It's like the defense just fell asleep. It seems like Manning throws to wide open targets 15 times a game at times. Now is this because they are worried about Manning's great deep balls? Does he make changes at the line that allows his guys to get so wide open? Or is he just in a wonderful system?
It's probably a bit of all of that but it seems to me that Brady needs to be A LOT more precise to get his big numbers than Manning does..." |
ha, funny, I have always thought the opposite, seems like Manning gets the ball in the smallest of spaces or right over guys heads where it looks like Brady (especially this year) is just blindly throwing the ball up and his guys either out jump the DBs while being double covered (Moss) or the defender tries to jump the route for an INT and gets burned (nick harper)

dumbest post on ST since rhyminandgigglefuck was on here... Manning is fucking ridiculous mentally, he IS the OC and QB, Moore sometimes suggests plays but Manning runs all that shit. He is by far the most mentally prepared player ever.
And while he does have ideal size, I wouldnt say he super talented physically but he more than makes up for it mentally10/23/2007 6:44:30 PM |

manning, with the shitty receivers and a host of injuries during this game, almost carried them to victory and would have if v wouldn't have missed his chip shot. To say Brady is better than Manning after that performance might be justified but don't count him out just yet. 11/12/2007 12:03:23 PM |

Oh you can't count Manning out...oh no way. But was amazing to see him throw 5 picks in that game. Not counting the last one which actually made 6. But Manning did carry the team, just had a pretty miserable game with pick after pick after pick and pick...and another pick.

I wish one of the Patriots' opposing coaches would have one of their players go head hunting on Brady for running up the score every game
its like when a pitcher hits a batter, then the next inning the opposing pitcher hits a batter as retaliation. Not to be a dickhead and cause an injury, but to stand up for their team and fans 11/18/2007 10:51:07 PM |

^^ run up the score or take him out?
I think one deserves the other. If you're going to leave your starters in there for the entire game, even though you're already up by +30, you can't bitch if one of them gets hurt, whether it was intentional or not. If somebody is willing to pay the consequences for taking Brady out, then you can't look down on them anymore than people look down on Bellichik for taking the chance his starters will get hurt when he leaves them in there to run up the score.

^ Yeah, well I fucking hate Brady, the Patriots, and Bellichik. I hate all of them as much as I hate Carowhina. And I'm not saying it has to be career ending, or even anything close. Just a hit that makes Brady think twice before he decides to stay in the game when he's no longer needed. Of course he'd probably pull a Bellichik during spygate and take it to mean the NFL was out to get him, and that would make him stay in even longer. Hmmm... Maybe it should be career ending. 11/18/2007 11:22:39 PM |

LOL, This lame argument again...I think the D is trying to get to Brady...too bad they can't touch him. His whole OL should be in the Pro Bowl. You can't tell me someone is not itching at the chance to lay Brady out...but no one has come close to really laying a hand on him.
I still can't believe people crying and whining because a team is playing at its best when its on the field. LOL, they went down to their 4th string RB and scored, the Defense took a TD in. Going for it on 4th, they threw a 1 yard route. A team plays hard and makes plays and people cry foul...Now if the Patriots go head hunting and take out people for scoring on them, then you will cry foul.
I don't hear anyone complaining with the losing team keeps their starters in and try to score and make plays...if the other team is going hard, trying to score, trying to stop you, then you keep your players in and keep trying to score and make plays.
Stop the crying already...

Last I checked these guys are pros and get paid millions of dollars to play this game.
Leave the "running up the score" shit to college, etc. and people who need their feelings protected. Pros do not.
Besides, which is more insulting? Keeping in the 1st string offense and playing like the score is 0-0, or putting in your entire 3rd string and running up the middle and punting every time.
I'd prefer the former if it were me, and most men would too.

i think a good late hit would be a nice wake up call
-> i do think that running up the score is valid here, since its a good team. the only thing that running up the score really does is make the record books, and these guys are getting paid to play.
