no, what you're claiming is nonsense. the body will not lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. Do some fucking reading on the subject before you go spewing your simpleton logic again.10/24/2007 6:27:24 PM |

are your muscles noticeably bigger, or are you just stronger? there's a huge difference between the two. 10/24/2007 6:36:30 PM |

Quote : | "In the first trial, researchers from California State University tracked a group of healthy men for eight weeks [3]. The men consumed an average of 4,339 calories daily, and trained with weights four days each week for 60-90 minutes. On average, the men gained six pounds of muscle and one-half pound of fat.
In study number two researchers instructed a group of men to switch from their normal diet to a low-carbohydrate diet [2]. Some of the men also trained with weights several times each week. Total fat loss at the end of the six-week study was just over seven pounds. The men also gained just over two pounds of muscle.

so you're mostly wrong. you can lose fat and gain muscle, you just gain less muscle than if you were eating normal calories.10/24/2007 6:42:46 PM |

^^most people on this site go ballistic when I advocate low carbohydrate diets, and you won't find any research out there claiming gains in muscle mass with simultaneous losses of body fat that don't utilize an extremely low carbohydrate diet. There's good hormonal reasoning for this, but that's the topic of another thread.
^losing fat will make your muscles look bigger, so unless you're actually tracking your results then you have no way of knowing. I have people walk up to me in the gym and tell me how much bigger I look this month, but it's only because I've shed about 12 pounds.

WHAT THE FUCK? Why are you so thick???. Muscle growth through proper weight training stimulates and increases basal metabolism, through simple fact you are gaining good lean muscle mass. This extra muscle mass will help you in burning fat. If you are NOT eating properly to sustain muscle growth through training, then YES you will lose both muscle and fat, but fat will go before muscle starts braking down. Even if you don't do enough weight training to stimulate muscle growth or if you are not inhaling enough protein to sustain growth, by simply working out and maintaining weight you will decrease your fat %, because metabolism is increased. Don't preach this amateur knowledge you gained from Men's health and who the fuck knows where else. It is incorrect. If you need reading material I can give you few references on books that are written in non-biochemistry lingo, so you can maybe understand a bit beyond magazine knowledge. I am not trying to be a jackass, just telling you that what you said is incorrect.10/24/2007 8:56:59 PM |

^^^that amateur bullshit you're spreading is what is found in Men's Health. What I'm posting has been preached by numerous publications in the Journal of Applied Physiology and world class powerlifting and bodybuilding trainers and athletes.
Stimulating muscles with exercise causes CATABOLISM before it causes anabolism. The only thing that initiates a switch between muscle tissue breakdown and the rebuilding process is proper nutrient intake. If you're not taking in more calories than your body needs to maintain a biologically balanced weight, then your body isn't going to waist calories it thinks it needs to be storing to survive to build muscle. We store fat to survive through famines and long periods of time without food. Your body will not drop fat just for the sake of dropping fat before muscle; it wasn't designed for that. The overabundance of food that makes being fat viewed as a social disease has only come about in the last 50-100 years, and our hormonal system has not had a chance to adapt in such a short period.
Quit reading flex magazine and start digging through research journals and training articles written by world class olympic lifters and power lifters. You'll realize how stupid your logic is. The only people who tell you that you can lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously are trying to sell you something. 10/25/2007 9:40:30 AM |
