So since when is a noose by itself a racist symbol? People have been hanged since Roman times, white and black and Oriental and every other color. Unless there was some other sign that this was specifically a racist attack, then all of this hoopla is absolutely without merit and people are just ignorant for feeding it.

And if this is a racist issue, then everyone jumping all over it is just giving it power. I think that it should be treated like African-Americans treat the N-word, use it and take it's power away. Every black person on campus should wear a noose tomorrow and have a 'fro pick with a black power fist on it. We'll sure teach whitey, now!

this sounds really bad but i used to tie them all the time just fiddling with string.

remember sometimes white people kill themselves with it too.
(i'm sure other races do too but since whites are the only ones that actually get accused of race crimes thats what i'm mentioning)

lets face it folks a slip not is fun to tie... any of them are.
but if you put... what is it 13 loops in it or something ? its illegal or a hate crime or something.

The biggest crime may be that the Technician will be reporting on this for the next couple of weeks instead of on the Fee/tuition increase

We will get to hear Oblinger "condemn" the noose over and over but we wont get to hear him try and justify the fee increase

I don't think it's bad, I used to do the same thing, and while I was doing it I wasn't thinking "I'm going to hang a black person with this." Seriously how menacing is a toilet paper noose in a bathroom stall? What kind of statement is that supposed to be anyway?

I call BS. Three (white) boys got in trouble and were EXPELLED for that until the superintendent lessened the sentence. If it wasn't race-related, why did they get such harsh punishment? And it's just a coincidence it happened the day after a black kid sat under the "white tree"?

The version I read was that he said this at an assembly BEFORE the Jena six ever attacked that kid. It was viewed as racist because he looked directly at the black kids when he said it.

I got my information from blogs who were on top of this story long before the mainstream media btw.

Having said that, I do think the toilet paper noose is being overblown. I've read countless racist things on bathroom stalls for years, it's not much different from that.
