This is seriously amazing,
a few weeks ago, we were all crying about how much we suck, losing pretty much to everybody and getting pounded for 3 qtrs by Wofford,
Now, we have a chance to go the Gator Bowl??
DAMN.
Lets take care of this a game at a time. 11/15/2007 6:14:20 AM |

technically we could finish tied for 3rd but we'd need a lot of help. A VT loss to Miami and UVA would put them at 5-3. A BC loss to Clemson and miami would put them at 4-4. UVA and Clemson would be in the ACC-CG. We'd need to win out to be tied for 3rd with VT at 5-3.
Most likely, we could finish 4th at 5-3 with clemson beating BC, a VT win over UVA. Most likely a bowl would take us over BC and there's a chance they could take us over a 6-2 UVA team. But let's just beat Wake and Maryland and worry about this shit later.
Current Standings: Virginia.............9-2(6-1)....bye, VT VT...................8-2(5-1)....Miami, @UVA Clemson............8-2(5-2)....BC, @S. Car. Boston College...8-2(4-2)....@Clemson, Miami Wake Forest......6-4(4-3)....NC State, @Vandy NC State..........5-5(3-3).....@WF, Maryland GT...................6-4(3-4).....UNC, Georgia FSU..................6-4(3-4).....Maryland, @Florida Miami................5-5(2-4)......@VT, @BC Maryland...........5-5(2-4).......@FSU, @NC State

Ernie...look up the rules....BCS, PEACH, GATOR
We can finish 1 game behind UVA and in the RULES we are eligible for the Gator Bowl They would have to pick us over UVA but that is a possiblity....
2002-2003 Final ACC Standings
Florida State 7-1 9-5 Maryland 6-2 11-3 Virginia 6-2 9-5 NCSU 5-3 11-3 Georgia Tech 4-4 7-6 Clemson 4-4 7-6 Wake Forest 3-5 7-6 North Carolina 1-7 3-9 Duke 0-8 2-10
That year Gator Bowl had the 2nd selection. Guess wtf happened....we jumped UM and UVA to go.....just saying 11/15/2007 9:45:59 AM |

In that situation, Wake would not be favored over us, because we would have beaten Wake, have a better record than Wake, and I think that NCSU travels better than Wake.11/15/2007 12:34:04 PM |

^I didn't mean Wake was a more attractive bowl candidate, I was responding to him saying this is how the season would finish if there were no upsets. NCSU beating Wake would be an upset, according to Vegas. If the season plays out with no upsets, we would lose to Wake, and beat Maryland (assuming we will be favored against them at home).

Bowl solid (7 wins or more):
Virginia 6-1 .857 9-2 .818 (VA Tech) Virginia Tech 6-1 .857 9-2 .818 (@ UVA) Boston College 5-2 .714 9-2 .818 (Miami) Clemson 5-3 .625 8-3 .727 (@ South Carolina) Wake Forest 5-3 .625 7-4 .636 (@ Vanderbilt) Florida State 4-4 .500 7-4 .636 (@ Florida) Georgia Tech 4-4 .500 7-4 .636 (Georgia)
Fighting for a spot:
NC State 3-4 .429 5-6 .455 (Maryland) Maryland 2-5 .286 5-6 .455 (@ NC State) Miami 2-5 .286 5-6 .455 (@ BC)
Obviously the NCSU-Maryland game will be a battle for bowl eligibility. A Miami win @ BC would put them in position to fight over the last bowl bid, as they would be the 9th bowl-eligible team with 8 bowl tie-ins.
ACC Games left, and what's on the line:
Virginia Tech @ UVA
The winner goes to the ACC Championship game. The winner of the ACC Championship would go to the Orange Bowl, and the loser likely the Peach. The loser of Virginia Tech-UVA likely heads to the Gator. However, the Gator could select Clemson instead, especially if they finish strong against USC. This scenario is more likely if UVA is the loser, as they don't have the traveling rep of a Clemson or VA Tech.
Miami @ Boston College
Miami is playing for bowl eligibility. BC owns the tiebreak over all Atlantic Division 3-loss teams, so they have already secured their spot in the championship game. BC is playing to restore their respectability after the midseason skid. BC is also playing to prevent a number of scenarios involving them getting jumped in bowl selection from happening if they lose the ACC Championship Game, although they could slide as far as Nashville even with a win. Clemson and Wake could already jump BC in bowl selection, but a loss to Miami would seriously damage BC's resume while also giving bowls the options of GT and FSU.
Clemson @ South Carolina
If Clemson can get another win (and look good doing it), they can significantly enhance their bowl resume. That combined with their fan support could have them looked at seriously by the Gator and Peach. If they lose this game, while that could still technically happen, a Meineke Bowl berth is more likely.
Wake @ Vanderbilt
As a small school with a small fan following, Wake is a team that really needs to do everything they can on the field to improve their bowl resume. An 8-4 Wake team looks much better than a 7-5 team, although how much that matters could be determined by who the bowls are considering them against. If Wake loses this game, they can start booking flights to San Francisco.
Florida State @ Florida
It's always good to beat your rivals, and Florida's defense is every bit as bad as their offense is good. An 8-4 FSU team coming off of a win over Florida would look much better. Bobby Bowden's house may look better as well, as it could keep the "For Sale" signs from popping back up. They likely have their sights set on the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, but a BC win could mean the Gator isn't impossible.
Georgia Tech @ Georgia
It's always good to beat your rivals, especially when you are Chan Gailey and wearing out your welcome in Atlanta. I don't see it happening. Start making plans for spending the holidays in Nashville.
Maryland @ NC State
Maryland and NC State playing at the end of the year with bowl implications, this time for who gets to go bowling at all. Winner goes to Boise, and importantly gets those extra practices. If Miami manages to win at Boston College, one of those two teams would be looking for an at large bowl berth.
Duke @ UNC
Who gets to store the Victory Bell over the holidays? 11/18/2007 7:41:11 AM |

Ouch. A Chick-Fil-A Bowl representative said this on a public blog this past week regarding BC:
Quote : | "Boston College - Obviously, Boston College is thinking Orange Bowl. We spent more time talking about B.C this week than any other team, but probably not for the reason you think. Let me say this first: We really like this team on the field and Ryan is a great quarterback. Period. But, in all honesty, our committee is leery of the Eagles and we're not convinced their fans will support this team on a bowl trip to Atlanta - particularly after having to travel to Jacksonville for the ACC Championship Game. No one doubts that B.C will provide a great team for our game, but the Chick-fil-A Bowl has a long tradition of sold-out stadiums and an atmosphere that is as loud as any stadium in the country and we're not sure a pro sports town like Boston can support their team at that level. We're hoping the Eagles' fan base will make a statement on behalf of their program and give us a reason to be high on them." |

good times, the guy that was tailgating next to us (random, didnt know him) happened to be a professional rib cooker, brought his own smoker etc and gave us free food all day. Weather was perfect, got tickets somewhat cheap ($80) and got to see friends from UT I hadnt seen in a few years. and for the most part the LSU fans were cool as shit. Would have been nice to win but I thought we were lucky as shit to even be in the game in the first place.
About the only bad thing is that we had some idiot LSU fans behind us... they claimed the "orange... white... orange... white" chant was unoriginal, which is true, but Go (Geaux) Tigers isnt?

Dear God, Purdue got a bowl game with the MAC champion in Detroit the day after Christmas (Motor City Bowl, Central Michigan). Seriously, what's the point of these bowl games if you don't finish top 4 in your conference?
East Carolina got a good matchup. They got Boise State in Honolulu.

He has a point though. They don't belong in the ACC. They never did. The Boston market doesn't even get ACC games on ABC when there is a competing Big East game (even a non-local... that's to say not UConn...) on.
They won't ever get the respect from the bowls because they don't travel. They won't ever get respect from other ACC teams/fans because they are so far away. Most importantly, TOB was exactly right. That program has a ceiling. The only place they are going from here is down... and fast.
By the way, the last 4 years for BCU:
2004: 9-3 2005: 9-3 2006: 9-3 2007: 10-3
Seems to me the savior Jags didn't have what it took to get them to the next level... don't worry though, it's all b/c of TOB's lousy recruits and Spaziani... 12/2/2007 9:33:52 PM |
