What worth does a Heisman have anyway? It's an outstanding player award that basically goes to the RB or QB of the team with the best overall record. It ignores who the best player in the country is and focuses on who the best person on the "best" team is.

yea, the heisman award system needs to be totally revamped...i say enforce an 8 player playoff where all parties compete in an all you can eat burger contest. that way we can crown a definitive winner, and ncaa and mcdonalds could make more money in sponsorships, publicity, etc.. 12/2/2007 12:08:34 AM |

I think it was this past week when Herbstreit was on packman, and he something to the degree of; the best thing that can happen to OSU is that they go to the rose bowl and play USC. If they win they'll get respect for beating one of the hottest and arguably best in the country. If they go to the NC and beat WVU or MSU everyone is just going to shrug it off to playing easy teams the entire way through.
This whole thing is just a mess. Even so, I would love to see VT in the NC though I highly doubt it will happen, and Georgia cannot get in. It won't happen 12/2/2007 12:21:23 AM |

Are you dense? I want Hawaii to win because them winning throws this system to even more chaos and shows even more glaring flaws. I don't honestly think they're one of the two best teams in the country. But you lost a lot of credibility with the following comment.

^^^^ no it doesn't... hawaii hasn't played anyone and their conference is weak. this just shows how much of a joke they are and should have never been in the talk about the NC game.
lsu beat VT in week 2. a lot has changed. VT is playing much better and both of their losses came to then number 2s (and teams that will still be ranked in the top 20 and the top 10) LSU lost to two unranked teams. looking at their SOS VT is 11 while LSU is 27. VT was ranked higher than LSU in BCS and one of the 2 polls. VT beat a higher ranked team by a larger margin than LSU beat tenn. it is pretty much impossible for LSU to jump VT in the BCS

not that the voters ever had much logic in the way they did things...

I'll say that college football is a great sport, but that it is hindered because of a bulls*** system that determines its champion, where the financial power of alumni, TV ratings, sportswriters and coaches with conflicts of interest, computer formulas, and unbalanced schedules have more say on determining a champion than winning and losing games.
That's why it will for the foreseeable future continue to be #2 to college basketball in my college sports pantheon.

i can say it because they started losing and started letting peole put 30 and 40 points up on them. they lost to 2 no unranked teams with 5 and 4 losses respectively. and people want to say they'll jump VT because they beat them (and yes they did smack them down). well that is already figured into current BCS and other polls and VT is still ranked higher in most of them. 12/2/2007 1:01:21 AM |

i don't doubt that, and unfortunately they probably will put them above VT. VT should definitely jump georgia and kansas though (i mean kansas beat 2 teams with winning records) logically though, based on the teams that played today, and who they played, how they won, and how they've been playing at the end of the season, it should finish OSU, VT, LSU, Oklahoma, georgia or USC at number 5 12/2/2007 1:05:03 AM |

This weekend should also prove that you DON'T WANT to play late games. The Big-11 is a fucking genius right now. If you can manage to lose early and then finish early, then you can sit back and watch other teams lose and then leap-frog other teams at the end of the year. 12/2/2007 1:07:47 AM |

I think a good system for a playoff would be 8 teams, and completely end this nonsense.
6 conference champions 2 at-large
The 2 at-large leaves the door open to be filled by other BCS schools that didn't win their conference, but also provides for non-BCS schools to have a chance to play for the national championship if they somehow managed to be ranked that high.
It would be absurd to have a national champion that didn't win their conference in the current setup.
Also, since it seems the Pac-10, Big East, and Big Ten don't have conference championships, they should be forced to make their top teams play a 13th game to be scheduled immediately following the conclusion of their season. OSU could play USC this week, and WVU could play whoever, and then we would have all teams in contention for a playoff spot being judged on 13 games, and not having a team like OSU getting extra rest because of not playing this weekend.
[Edited on December 2, 2007 at 2:03 AM. Reason : If we had an 8 team playoff, Georgia would probably get one of the at-large bids]
