last time I checked, West Virginia wasn't on the Atlantic coast. Kinda part of what the ACC is.. all the states have Atlantic Ocean coastlines.

But yea, I would've taken Rutgers (now that they're good), UConn, SC, ECU over BC.

What I remember happening was that the original plan was Boston College, Miami, and Syracuse. After the News & Observer broke the story and made the expansion plan public, there was the whole deal with the Virginia legislature forcing Virginia to veto any plan that didn't include Virginia Tech. So the original plan of Boston College, Miami, and Syracuse changed to become the threesome of Virginia Tech, Miami, and Syracuse.

Duke and North Carolina had made it previously clear they would veto all cause they did not want to hurt basketball. 7 out of 9 were needed to approve expansion.

When the vote came to include Virginia Tech, Miami, and Syracuse, it only got six out of nine votes. Per the News & Observer at the time I remember reading, the three votes against it were Duke and North Carolina of couse, and Marye Anne Fox as chancellor of NC State. The News & Observer did not state why she did it, but mused that it might have been because she did not want only one northern school whose closest rival would be Maryland. I believe Marye Anne Fox then made the recommendation to just add Virginia Tech and Miami, and that got the seven votes. That is why we played one year with 11 teams.

In the interim, I saw various pipedreams in the News & Observer that would never happen, but supposedly John Swofford "was talking to them", like Notre Dame and Kentucky.

John Swofford's entire purpose of this expansion was to bring in Miami and to have a conference championship game. So Boston College got brought up again and was later approved by the chancellors. Syracuse was left out in the cold.

^ the VT crowd looks pretty good, especially knowing how many times VT has been in Jacksonville the past 10 years. Gator bowls in 94,98,02,06 (05 and 07 ACC championships)... Fans tend to get tired of traveling to the same place over and over again. The same game in Charlotte would've been 90% filled with Hokie fans.

Typically teams and fanbases have more time to plan a bowl trip than an ACC Championship Game trip as well. VT and BC didn't know they were going until last Saturday.

Move the championship to Charlotte. NC is the home of the ACC.

wow when State played Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl in Jacktown a few years back, it was a lot more full than that

I heard something today that maybe 8 of the schools in the ACC are located within 275 miles of Charlotte...it just makes sense to have the game at BofA Stadium

i think originally Florida sounded like a good idea...I mean hey its gonna be Florida State and Miami playing for the conference title every year right? Oh wait its actually two teams whose schools are located in Virginia and Massachusetts, whoops

^^ Yeah, I was there. But the Irish fans that were there still blew the doors off what BC brought for the ACC title game.

I was a few rows from the very top horizontal with the endzone.

Jacksonville Landing the night before the Gator Bowl was insane. You could hardly walk it was too many people. And then there was a monsoon after the fireworks and I had to walk all the way cross that bridge soaking to get to my car.

Well, it was probably still 3:1 State to ND fans. There is a substantial number of locals that you can't tell who they are cheering for, not to mention much of the ND side was local companies, etc. A number of the ND sections ended up going to State, because we bought up our allotment and then some before ND ever got the bowl bid. And the proportions say more about State's traveling than it does about ND's bowl attendance, because there simply weren't any tickets left for them. The players remarked on being shocked at it being essentially a home game for State when they walked out of the tunnel.

They don't like having bowl or championship games in cold weather. The only logical alternative would be the georgia dome but the sec got there first.

Basketball was great in Tampa. Tampa+ spring break= One of the best ever. It should be there often. I'm a big fan of DC as well. Great city to spend time in. Charlotte and Atlanta are also good but Greensboro is awful. Old, bad arena and horrible city. Should never be there.

The Notre Dame "all-green shirt zone" that took up about 3 sections was down at the other end of the field in the lower bowl, on the left side across from the endzone in that corner. There were scattered pockets elsewhere, and their band, which was HUGE.
