"

they made a go at moving to D1-A several years ago. At that point, there were several factors why they couldn't. Among the factors were:

- their stadium isn't nearly big enough. at the time, it seated maybe 9000-11,000 or something. i don't know what it's up to now, but it still might not be big enough

- one of the requirements for D1-A is something like there must be interstate access to the city, or else two 4-lane highways in and out of the town. Boone only has 1 4-lane road going into the town, highway 421 leading down to Winston-Salem where it meets I-40. Even that road was only fully 4-laned around 2002. Highway 321 from Hickory and Lenoir, through Blowing Rock and into Boone is being 4-laned right now. There are about 10 miles of very steep and windy road between Lenoir and Blowing Rock that is taking a long time. When they started the project back in 1998 or so, the projected finish time was 2013. No idea if they're still on schedule with that.

App's stadium holds about 16,000 right now, but they sell about 24,000 tickets anyways for the hill and random people standing up and stuff. Traffic and tailgaiting would be a problem, because the stadium is basically carved out of a hill, and only has access on two sides, with one small parking lot on one side, and...a softball field on another, and a road and dorms on others. They are trying to build up the stadium, and put another level on the visitors side, and rebuild the fieldhouse/locker rooms (if they havent already) and ^hes right, all it is is 421 and 321, but really 321 is 4 lanes all the way to blowing rock. but in reality, they need to figure out some more streets to connect to rivers st (in the middle of campus) and 421 and 321 and probably bodenheimer or whatever runs up behind the math building

They need to dig the field down and add another level of seats where the track currently is located.

Get the fans closer to the field. At 18k people, it's one of the loudest stadiums I've been in because of the echoing off the hills and building. I could only imagine what it sounds like w/ 28k that they've had a few times this year. I would love to go back after they finish the renovations on both the Press/Luxury box and the East side stands. It's fun to go to games when the fans are having fun and win.

As BCS fans we frown on hard work; consistent playing; exciting match ups; or anything else associated with a tournament style playoff for NCAA Football.

I mean it would be unfair if tOSU didn't just get to *poof* be in the title game.

So this could be the 3rd straight championship for App. Why do BCS fanatics not think a similar kind of tournament could not work for IA football?? If tOSU , FL, or any of the other BCS powerhouses were SOO good then steamrolling the tournament consecutive years would not be an issue; kind of like what App is doing.

If anyone remembers App lost to Wofford this year. Yet they still are going to the title game through hard work and beating up the other teams post-season. WVU fumbled the Pittsburgh game during the regular season and do not get to play for a title. Fact is the BCS system rewards "strategic scheduling" instead of "strategic on the field football"

i think the key differences are parking and nazism among the security at the convocation center. the town is cool about parking for football games, but not for basketball, and the security folks at basketball games... ugh. they're nazis in every way imaginable. they wouldn't let me into the davidson game because they said my id didn't look like me (i have a goatee and long hair now, whereas i didn't 2 years ago when i had my picture taken)

i think 7 games (8 team playoff) could make more than the 4 games they play now. Have to work out sponsors and everything, but more games on tv between very good teams can't be bad? can it?

They could keep the 32 bowls (-1) as locations for games played in a tournament. That way the bowls are left in tact, so Mobile, Alabama can still get revenue from the GMAC Bowl, yet you have a real way of determining a champion.

You could have 31 games for the top 32 teams, which may be more exciting than a 16 team tournament. Can anyone say upset special. Think about it, March Madness but in Dec. and January.

never gonna happen for 32 fucking teams... top 16 or 12 perhaps but there is no way in hell they do 32 in any kind of playoff format.

the other 16-17 teams would squabble over bowls still but win or lose they are done after one.

here's the video linked from the SI article
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_FQQONgG3Y4
Edwards is just so damned fast. His acceleration is unreal - i don't think I've ever seen a track sprinter who can accelerate like that.
It's like when T.A. used to plow through converging defensive backs by putting his shoulders down and letting them bounce off of him. Edwards just zips through all those holes and the defense converges behind him

421 is expanding again up near Boone. I surveyed there a couple of years ago so I'm sure it has couple of years before it is actually complete. 2013 sounds about right

you seem to be mixing up a couple different roads.
421 comes into boone from the east, from Winston-Salem, through Wilkesboro and into Boone's east border. It is 4-lane all they way from I-40. It actually runs into King Street, the "main drag" through campus, which is 2 lanes, but you can branch off onto 105, which is 4-lane through town.

321 comes up from the south, from I-40 in Hickory, through Lenoir, though Blowing Rock, then into Boone. It is 4-laned between Hickory and just north of Lenoir, and also between Blowing Rock and Boone. They are currently widening the few 2-lane miles between Lenoir and Blowing Rock, but it is very rough terrain.
