So you really fucking think if Margaret Thatcher

was walking down the "wrong" street in baghdad would just as likely get raped as say Jessica Alba.

you're an idiot.

Not exclusively, but predominately. You may recall the half a dozen or so news-making cases of rapes of old ladies in NC in the last couple years as evidence of this...

Attractiveness may be a factor in some cases, but I doubt it's the primary factor very often.

that's irrelevant, because that's not how rape victims are chosen.

yeah, ^

Lots of supposedly ugly women get raped.

Andrea Dworkin, for example.

"i'm glad you guys are experts on how rape victims are chosen "

so you're saying, what.... you have first hand experience in choosing rape victims?

the main points are this:
1) the chick is not ugly anyways. She may not win any beauty contests, but she is decently attractive (by some angles, at least, judging from the page 1 pictures...)

2) if a guy is dead set on raping a woman just for the hell of it, and everything else being equal, he has two women in front of him, yeah - i guess he would pick the more attractive one. i don't know, really. maybe, maybe not. You can't really rationalize the thought process of a person who rapes other people.

3) but the overall point is that men who have tendencies to rape women will not make go or no-go decisions based on if the girl is a 7 or a 9 on hotornot.com. As honkey cited, it has been shown that victims are chosen mainly by "availability, accessibility, and vulnerability." That makes a whole lot of sense - men who rape women generally know that they're doing something wrong and illegal, so their main motivations are going to be how easily they can do it without getting caught (i.e. availability of a woman, how accessible she is to get to, and what kind of vulnerable place she is in, either physically or in location, or power-wise, like a subordinate worker), not by how much they can brag to their rape-buddies about how hot the chick they just banged was.

^ That's probably due to the fact that you're not a rapist. (As far as we know)

She also doesn't strike me as accessible or especially vulnerable.

So enlighten me here - why do dudes get raped in prison, then? Is there some kind of strong correlation between felonies and being a homo that we don't know about? Does being in jail just make someone a little more "fancy?" Or is there... something else at work?

^^i dunno, i'm sure somebody has

my point is should people also be suspended for making jokes about how Michael Vick is going to get raped in jail? How about if people were discrediting the alleged rape victim in the Duke lacrosse thing?

I just think its completely fucking absurd anyone would legitimately want a suspension for anybody based on speculating how they choose to speculate on a news story

i could care less cause i haven't made light of anything

^^ like you said convenience and lack of accessibility to something better. While i am sure there are crazy guys that do not give a shit and will rape the first available target. I have trouble though believing that rapists put little thought and would just assume rape a 400 lb gorilla when they could target a sorostitute.

Quote :

Like the woman in the duke lacrosse case.

In no way am I condoning or making light of rape. However, I think it is absolutely ridiculous that the looks of a the woman does not have any influence on if she is targeted for a sex crime like rape. yeah some psychopaths will do their deeds indiscriminately but a drunk horny dude with anti-social behaviors and lack of conscious willing to commit rape is more likely to take advantage of a target he sees as desirable.

Is it acceptible to make fun of her if you dont think she was raped? Or made the story up to make millions?

I dont think anyone is making fun or light of rape. Its a terrible thing. However, there is an 800lb gorrilla in the room and we arent supposed to talk about it?

If it does turn out she is lying, I wonder if charges will be filed against her. Unlike the Duke case. She seems to be going after a bigger game, imo.

here's what you originally said

Quote :
"Im gonna call BS on this one. Have you all seen her? Maybe they thought they were doing a camel? It could have been an honest mistake."

so basically you're calling her a liar because she's ugly. so ugly that people wouldn't even bother to rape her.

this is not commenting on her looks. this is simultaneously calling her a liar and reducing rape to something less than a violent act. in fact you're treating it as something people do to people who they think are attractive but don't think they could fuck otherwise. i would venture that that is rarely the case.

^If you really thought I meant the guys could have actually made a mistake and thought they were doing a camel instead of a human, god help you. It was a joke.

I later clarified it by saying,
Quote :
"Honestly, I bet its just some young idiot trying to make millions. If Im wrong, I feel bad for her.
"

Which you glossed over.

^I think she lack credibility bc her story has many WTFs in it. A "guard" gave her a cell phone and she doesnt call for help? Being a main one. If a rape did infact occur, why the need to cover it up? Just fire who was involved and press charges, it will go away once people seen you have addressed it. Its not like they got orders to hold and rape a girl.

I made a joke about her looks and tied it to the rape, as a joke. Mostly rape is about control/availibilty not about looks.

Anyway, you can take it any which way you want. (meaning the joke, not sexually...to avoid any confusion)

but like these dudes are gonna be charged or something right? they got some dna or something right? there is like "no chance" she is making this up?

^I think she has millions of reasons to make it up. I also think she is counting on the hatred towards halliburton to aid her in her suit, which seemingly has little evidence as of now. Unless she can get a guard to testify what happened, there isnt much evidence.

^We don't really know all the details or facts, including whether or not there was ever a full investigation of the matter. But it looks like there wasn't a decent investigation, and that's why the facts are unclear.

And the apparent lack of a decent investigation is why this story matters.

The rape/lawsuit aren't as compelling as the potential cover-up.
