the best way to help charity is to make as much money as possible through capitalism, create more jobs to get unemployed people working, and generate more taxes through increased profits and income
that's a win win
you already give 40-50% of your $ to the government, why have to give more away? 12/18/2007 11:48:44 AM |

Do the employees have to pay for this in their income tax?
Does the bank get to use this as a charitable donation for tax purposes? 12/18/2007 11:50:37 AM |

busting my balls all year to have my employer decide what to do with my hard-earned bonus? that sucks

what would be worse is if the employees have to pay medicare (approx 1.5%) and social security (6%) on the bonus if it counts as income. Sure they can deduct it from federal income tax, but not SS or medicare. That would mean your Christmas bonus COST you approx $75.00 out of pocket.
I seriously doubt they would do that, but if it counts as income, they would have to... 12/18/2007 11:53:26 AM |

^That was my point, I should have stated it better in the post. I'd hate to have to pay out for the "privilege" of getting a Christmas bonus that I was forced to donate to charity.
I got my bonus today from my side job. Cold hard cash baby. Fuck this PC shit. 12/18/2007 11:56:39 AM |

i know if i've gotten say a $5,000 bonus, I would actually get more but it would be $5,000 after taxes, so my work takes that into consideration 12/18/2007 11:56:49 AM |

that's what a lot of businesses do.. but they don't say it like that.. they donate money to a charity in your name.

Really. At least they get a bonus. Every place I have ever worked hasn't, so just ask me where NOT to work and I can tell you.
And who gets to make the charitable deduction on their taxes? The employees I would assume, so at least they've got that going for them.12/18/2007 1:22:43 PM |

We are all having so much fun deciding the best way to make a difference in our community. The fun part is that so many other organizations are helping us out to make an even BIGGER difference in our community. We all realize that we are truly blessed to be a part of this incredible organization. Our owners truly "get it", and we are all better people for having the opportunity to know them and work with them. " |

^^and that's the reader's fault that they used the information given? Like you've never quoted, used, argued, etc something you've read or seen on the news, which always leave information out.

Read the story. They employees not being forced to give away their holiday bonuses. In fact, the word bonus is not mentioned anywhere in the article.
The bank is simply putting the charitable contributions in their hands so that they can decide where the money will go.
