Jesus
My friends did this same shit back in the day
You need to get in touch with his parents, not him. That's how my friends got their money back. 1/3/2008 3:36:15 PM |

DaBird, how much money does he owe you? You lent it to him right? He has to pay you back. If you didn't make him sign a promisary note, you've learned your lesson... but you can still get your money back. 1/3/2008 3:44:08 PM |

owes me $500.
he had a lease with me and defaulted on the payment. I shouldve kicked him out immediately, but instead I believed that he was having some problems and that he would get me the money. I know I can go the legal route, however it will probably be near impossible to collect (my best friend is an attorney and we are working on it) because he has nothing. it just will be a huge pain in the ass. 1/3/2008 3:48:16 PM |

probly not worth the effort for just 500 bucks, other than the 'fuck you' factor and to stick it to him 1/3/2008 3:49:14 PM |

Oh, I thought you lent him the $$
Anyway, it seems you were the landlord right? If not, this whole thing makes no sense.
You're gonna have to chalk that up in the loss column, that's what security deposits are for. 1/3/2008 3:50:44 PM |

I am the landlord and it is my house (I live there too). I never had the need for a deposit but you are correct...I am probably screwed. I always figured that if I could not trust the person living in my house then they didnt need to live there and I never had a reason to think he would do this....always very clean, kept to himself and paid on time, in full.
It will probably be chalked up as a 'L' however, I can and will still go after him for the "fuck you" factor as Slave Famous put it. 1/3/2008 3:54:20 PM |

UPDATE:
I went through my old phone bills and have started calling people that I know he called (NY area codes) and asking them for contact information/telling them what is going on. I have actually only got one lady on the phone and I ended up talking to her for 30 minutes. Unfortunately, she didnt have a current number... 1/4/2008 10:33:15 PM |

I would file in court if he owes you over $500. Once he does not show you will win a default judgment and at some point in life its gonna bite him in the ass and maybe he will pay it. 1/4/2008 10:37:46 PM |

I am debating that. It costs $75. 1/4/2008 10:40:18 PM |

^ Do it ... you might not get your money, but it will come back to bite him. It's worth it to teach him a lesson. Everything has consequences, sooner or later. 1/4/2008 11:48:48 PM |
