Just the traditional "gentleman" behavior. I figure like this, with all my crap she puts up with.. along with her possessing the vag and the ability/willingness to carry and birth a child... it's 20 seconds of my life I'm willing to sacrifice.

Plus to me, it feels so pimp walk her over to the door and open it, etc... then walk over to my side like "Yeah ladies, your man doesn't do this for you."

i mean i see your point, just in my opinion there are better ways to be a "gentlemen" than that...i'm one of those people that likes to be efficient...so when i insert my key and unlock all the doors, i expect her to promptly open the door and sit in the vehicle...i never even thought people actually did that in real life to be honest...i figured they just did it in movies

To be honest, there have been times when I opened a random door for a lady at the mall, office, whatever... and she was so impressed. Some even look at me like I'm crazy before they realize I'm doing it for them. Then they say stuff like, "Wow, I didn't know there were men that still did that. Thanks."

Sometimes it really only takes that one tiny extra thing that most other guys don't/won't do, to make that critical impression on a woman you are interested in. Not an exact analogy, but it's why some waitresses write their name and "thanks" with a little heart or whatever on the back of a check in a restaurant. The small act of doing that, just may be the difference between a 10% and a 15% tip.

idk, i guess cause i'm like the nicest most courteous guy i know, i feel like i shouldnt have to open a car door on top of how nice i am...but the holding a door open thing is common decency..i always say thank you when someone holds it open for me, and always say you're welcome when they say thank you...i hate when people dont say thank you......does your wife say thank you when you open the door for her? do you see any added benefit other than she thinks you are nicer than most guys?

She always says thank you... which I find to be pretty awesome. As far as the benefits, I guess at this point, it just helps to reassure her that she married the right guy (on top of everything else). But really, it's something to impress in the dating stages then becomes a behavior I've held up. I've always believed that when it comes to relationships, people should start out how they can hold out. In other words, dudes that give flowers, etc every other day and buying jewelry for every monthly anniversary... usually screw themselves over cuz they can never keep that up if the relationship goes long-term. Granted, the relationship should be about more than that... but you're just setting yourself up for the "But you used to..." conversation later.

Hey, everyone is different. I've met ladies that hate a guy that tries to be all "gentlemanly" and want to open their own doors, don't like getting flowers, etc. But if you lay your cards out from the beginning, I think you'll be in good shape. That way you'll be sure to avoid opening doors for ladies against your will.
