The Panthers can't afford to take a QB in the first-round. Jake has a big contract, Carr has a pretty good-sized contract and Moore played admirably in the games he was in.

We need to drop some dead weight and free-up some cap room or we won't be able to keep anyone or go after anyone.

Some of yall need to creep up on http://car.scout.com/ and talk some sense into some of our fans. There are 2 guys always griping about appalachian state towards each other. One is a APP homer, the other a APP hater. I saw the discussion on this board and would LOVE for yall to bring it on over there!!!

Ryan Cladys at OT is my pick in the 1st round, then Kevin Smith in the 2nd round.

"He is a much better kickoff guy than Kasay and should be able to kick a lot of touchbacks, but what does that mean for Kasay and Baker? Kasay is still a better field goal kicker and Baker is a good punter. Maybe its just to put some pressure on Kasay, I dunno, but its something"

kasay is only under contract through 2008...my guess is he'll be gone after that.

steve smith and chad johnson on the same team = best WR duo and biggest ego package in the league

apparently, the Panthers were able to free up some significant cap space by some nifty accounting moves.

the way they're talking, it sounds to me like they don't expect him to be back.....it'd be sad to see him go, but much better than overpaying for a player past his prime.

Big Tuna is making a Big Mistake

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3230698

Quote :
"The Miami Dolphins continued rounding out their coaching staff on Monday.

New head coach Tony Sparano named Dan Henning the team's offensive coordinator. A 28-year NFL veteran, Henning was most recently the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator from 2002-06. In that time, the Panthers advanced to the NFC Championship Game twice, losing the 2003 Super Bowl to the New England Patriots.

This will be Henning's second go-around with the Dolphins, coaching quarterbacks and wide receivers under Don Shula in 1979-80.

Henning has been a head coach in the NFL twice, with the Atlanta Falcons (1983-86) and San Diego Chargers (1989-91).

In December, Bill Parcells was named executive vice president of football operations to turn around the 1-15 Dolphins. Shorty thereafter, he fired coach Cam Cameron, who led the team for only one season, and most of his staff.

Sparano, the former Cowboys assistant head coach, was hired as head coach of Miami in January."

Lewis is resigned. Hopefully, Gross will resign before the Feb 21st franchise deadline. I hope they let Wharton go. He got beat repeatedly like last year.

Somebody cue the BYE picture up.

Don't post it yet, but have it ready, whenever it goes down.

Quote :
"DESHAUN FOSTER ON WAY OUT? by Michael David Smith

There's increased talk coming out of the Carolinas that the Panthers could part ways with running back DeShaun Foster during the off-season, and perhaps sooner rather than later.

The Charlotte Observer reports that the Panthers would save about $4.75 million on their 2008 salary cap if they cut Foster, who is heading into the final season on his contract. And the Winston-Salem Journal reports that the Panthers could try to trade Foster and then cut him if they can't find any takers.

Foster was the Panthers' leading rusher in 2007, with 247 carries for 876 yards. But he wasn't their most effective rusher, as DeAngelo Williams averaged a full yard and a half more per carry than Foster, finishing the season with 144 carries for 717 yards.

Considering that Williams is 24 and Foster is 28, the Panthers must see Williams as playing a bigger role in the franchise's future than Foster. And that means Foster is likely on the way out."

I wish we should have kept him at minimum salary as a backup MLB. He already know the system, and he can't get hurt as much as a backup.

99% of football players can't get hurt as much if playing a backup position instead of a starter

Morgan is in the other 1%

from sportsline...Panthers 1 of 5 teams to get back on track in 2008:

Quote :
"The situation is clear here: Either John Fox wins, or the Panthers join the bidding for Bill Cowher. Simple as that. So Fox knows what he must do, and what he must do is find a playmaker not named Steve Smith. Smith can't keep carrying this offense, and the Panthers have known it for years. That's why they signed Keyshawn Johnson in 2006, and that's why they drafted DeAngelo Williams and Dwayne Jarrett. So which of them made Smith's life easier? Johnson tried, but it didn't work out. Williams and Jarrett? The Panthers are waiting. Anyway, Carolina absolutely, positively must find another impact receiver and improve the league's 14th-ranked rushing game; otherwise Fox joins the unemployment line. Jake Delhomme returns as a healthy quarterback, and that is nothing but good. Without him last season the Panthers sank to their second consecutive losing season, one reason Fox is in a pickle. Neveretheless, they might've gained more than they lost because they were forced to play undrafted rookie Matt Moore, and tell me he doesn't look like Delhomme's successor. A virtual unknown, Moore gained a chance only because third-stringer Brett Basanez was hurt, but Moore made the most of his opportunity. He beat Seattle and Tampa Bay and looked like someone the Panthers can count on if Delhomme goes missing again. I believe in the Panthers because the NFC South is wide open, because Delhomme is healthy and because Fox is under fire. He cannot fail again. "
